Can you please tell me if this is a fair price?

Wild hunt in the deep bush in Botswana, Zimbabwe or Namibia in dangerous game area.

Package:

10 days hunting

Upland hunting for francolin, dove, grouse and guineafowl

Impala - trophy and several non trophy

Bull eland

Bull Kudu

Spotted Hyena

Warthog

Jackal

Baboon

Zebra

Giraffe

Steenbok

Maybe: klipspringe or bushpig

Transport to airport, food, salt and prep for drop off at taxidermy, guides, full crew at camp. One hunter.

$20,000

All fair chase in wild area with no fences, etc.

Thoughts?

It means that that bird shooting is included.

I was vague on location because I've been invited to a pretty nice locale and I don't have clearance from other friends hunting in subsequent weeks to divulge actual location at this time.

It's not South Africa and its in game rich Southern Africa at a traditional camp where 4 of the big 5 roam.

Sorry I can't be more precise but trying to get a handle on the costs as I must decide by Sunday.

It does not look like a cost break down, what does it include apart from the animals listed,

Which ones are trophies which ones aren't price seems good to me...

Be aware of..

Taxes on daily rates and trophy fees?
Transfers?
Concession fees?
Rifle import.

Sounds fishy if you ask me. :E Hmmm: How well do you trust your friends that's the real question here.

My suggestion would be to find outfitter prices on the web for the secret location and compare.

This is wild hunting so no guarantee as to the quality of the animals or if they are even seen. The location has resulted in SCI gold animals many times prior by known acquaintances.

Confession: never been to Africa. All Intel is based on acquaintences that have and will hunt here but they usually go big-5. I'm not affluent so I just want to make sure it's a fair value for me, this is 2x what I intended to spend but fair chase is important to me.

I could do the same hunt for half the daily rate in more civilized areas of this country with the same PH but this is a more primitive and traditional hunt.

Thanks for any advice.

As to fishy, I trust the PH enough to hand him the money ahead of time which I would not do for anyone else in the known world. A half dozen people I know that are very "comfortable" will be hunting leopard for a month after my hunt at same locale. (For 2x the price of course)

It is a fair deal if it meets your needs. For Namibia it maybe a little on the head side but for zim it is not a bad price. Could you do better I would say maybe by a few dollars. It all goes by what price you put on peace of mind you seem to get from using a guy you seem to trust. I think the list of animals is big if hunting 2x1. Do you get anything back on trophy fees for animals not taken

dont think its 2x1 hunting bill, but x2 is referring to the pricing..........could be wrong.

I think your right I read it to fast and mixed it up.

IN a Dangerous game area does not matter in the least to price. That is an attraction.
It's a plains game hunt with some bird hunting on the side.

If that is actually the top end of the cost that you pay IF you are successful in taking trophies and that price includes ALL the trophy fees for the list you presented and you are hunting 1x1. Go for it.

If that is the price for a 10 day drive ($2000 per day) and maybe you'll see something..... you decide if it is worth it.

ps. Secret deals always make me nervous.

Just hard to say for sure with not more details. Like brickburn said it could be a 2000.00 a day drive. I would still want a break down of my day rate and trophy fees for animal you plan on hunting and even ones you may see. I would rather have a price up front so I know if I can afford to shot something not on my list. Don't always get a lot of time to decide once you see the animal

I asked about the dangerous game prices (daily rate normally $1000, mine $700) versus a daily rate in Midlands of Zim with same guy for $400 a day. His response was setting up remote camp and having more danger, he needs more pay.

Personally I know this to be dangerous as the PH has extricated acquaintences from pretty wild situations of which I can attest.

No guarantees, no money back on game animals on this hunt.

If I go midlands I can do a hunt with guarantees and trophy fees for less with same PH.

Well 7000 for day fees for remote area is not bad. But paying maybe 13,000 and maybe getting a eland ,kudu and impala is a bit much I would say.

You ask is this a fair price on this hunt. To me it would all depend on what I would get to hunt and really have a chance to take. I am not basing this on taking everything on that list but wow you could end up paying a lot for a few animals. It really comes down to how much your willing to gamble that 13,000 will get you.

So, in effect, this is actually a package hunt with no refunds for trophies not taken!

The romance sounds interesting but it is also fraught with risk.
The fees sound like a PIA tax for set up. OK
Most Outfitters don't charge DG rates when they are not hunting DG.

That is a lot of trust you are placing on an Outfitter and a new area.

If you have the money and want to go for the experience do it.

I want to read your hunting report when you are done for sure.

To me it also seems more of a risk since it is your first trip to Africa.

Will you be hunting 10 days and the travel time not counted in that time frame

well I think the amount of time sounds like a good deal at 7000.00. I would just be scared to have 13,000.00 out there and not be sure what I am getting for that. I myself have never seen a hunt offered like this before. Could be a high dollar bird and jackal hunt or could be a hunt of a lifetime with the animals you could take.
