I took in my latest guns to customs to get 4457's on them and was informed there are some new requirements that one must log onto the internet and complete. The fellow was very helpful and gave me his card and told me to email if I had any troubles navigating through it.

I thought it was also interesting that he told me this is resulting from the fallout of "Fast and Furious" scandal... So the government screws up and we the law abiding citizens get more red tape. Typical.

I'm about to dive into it but thought I should share and give a heads up. Attached is the letter I was given.

I think we will work this into the News and the Safari Planning.

Good to know. Thanks for sharing this.

Well isn't that special....

Is this just for new 4457s, or did they say?

I can't imagine them making everyone go back online and re-certify, but it is the government, so....

Was just wondering the same thing. If you have them on a old 4457 do you still need to do all the new paper work

NOT have to complete new paperwork that was created to secure jobs .... er

"save the world from the proliferation of small arms.":ROFLMAO:

You guys are delusional. o_O

The scandal deals with a controversial practice known as "gunwalking," in which federal agents allow illegally purchased weapons to flow to high-volume arms dealers in an attempt to identify and track their whereabouts. The practice is prohibited by the Justice Department, but the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives made use of it at the end of George W. Bush's administration and the beginning of Mr. Obama's as part of an operation known as "Fast and Furious."

i obviously should know what this is, but i seem to have forgotten......;) so please remind me of this scandal........

the U.S. government selling guns to drug dealers in order to catch the bad guys, but instead of catching anyone they lost trck of the guns and a federal agent ended up being murdered with one of them. then of course there was the whole denial thing from the feds....

So, fill out your paperwork properly damn it!
We have to keep hunting rifles off of the International Small Arms market.

I see this now you have to take a certification quiz. and pass.

Training to pass the quiz is every Wednesday at a cost of $50

I wonder if our resident travel expert has any information on this new procedure yet?

@safari gal

The way that I read it and after taking their short quiz is that as long as it is personal firearms and you have less than 1000 rounds of ammo you should be OK without more paperwork.

Does anybody get this? I've been in the gun business 36 years. My Dad about 60....more bull crap.....more control...I just get sadder for my children. Solves nothing and puts another bureaucrat into our lives. Some other mutt on the government cheese. Rant over :)

Well.......if this doesn't come under the heading of SNAFU (situation normal, all %^&$#@ up) I don't know what does. So I called the US Customs office about 5 minutes from here at Phx Sky Harbor Airport. I informed him of the information that I had concerning the AESDirect registration thing.

Him: Yeah we got that memo, but we're not enforcing that yet. So you SHOULD be okay.

Me: Well, that's not exactly making me feel good and confident. When are you going to enforce this rule?

Him: Don't worry about it.

Right!

called my travel agent and they are looking into also. Others have brought this to their attention.

In one area you need to fill out the form and it is good for up to 4 years.

And with another it said i do not need one for personal use. As long as you brought back the gun , plus and ammo not used.

Says it goes into effect April 3rd.
