Good Gun Deals This Week

Friends, many of you know that I like left handed people well enough, but I have a bit of a frustration with their gun owners. Always complaining about the world being against them, no good guns available, wah wah, etc.

This is a peach of a lefty rifle for cheap money:

That is an indestructible work of art action type. 99% of those I've seen were for Schutzen target shooting. This one is an actual hunting rifle! The dies are readily available and when original, it was moving roughly a 160gr bullet at 30-30 performance levels. With today's powders and thoughtful handloading, you could make this into a deer slaying beast. It exudes quality and to be made today would be a $10k+ rifle.

Lefties, stop bitching, start buying!

In defense of lefties…we are usually complaining about the lack of dangerous game calibers, not smaller ones. I passed on this rifle several months ago when it first showed up on GI. Its 100+ years old, and an obsolete cartridge. Does it fire, maybe. Is it a hand grenade it disguise, also maybe. Come give me a hard time when theres a LH 505 Gibbs for sale…Oh wait, there is one, for almost $10k on GB…for a base model CZ 550. From yet another scalper, preying on poor left handed shooters such as myself.

An almost new left-handed CRF Winchester Model 70 in 300 Win Mag for $1,400 on GunsInternational. This won't last long (if it's even still available...).

Thanks! I always appreciate a link to ANY left-handed rifle.

I've always taken your southpaw ribbing as just that. Feel free to continue poking me with a sharp stick. :D

The fact that you're glossing over though is that (as someone who searches for LH rifles every day), I have never seen left-handed shooters complaining about the lack of $15k Heym's or 8.15x46r rifles that are a century old.

If you go to GunBroker and search for sold Winchester Model 70's in the Bolt Action category, you'll get 8,349 hits. If you add the letters "LH" to that search, it drops to 5. A brand new RH CRF Model 70 in 30-06 recently sold for $760. A used LH model sold for $1,750. Brand new RH 375 H&H Safari Classics sell for less than $1,700. The last LH model sold for $4,175 with 40 bids.

If you go back several dozen pages in this thread when a LH Model 70 appeared at Cabela's for less than $1,100, it was a virtual southpaw stampede. One of the things you're missing in your evaluation is all of the rare good LH deals that disappear in a nanosecond that RH shooters wouldn't even consider. The LH shooters I know are willing to pay a reasonable premium. But they are not indiscriminate just because a rifle is left-handed.

Respectfully, the rifles you're citing on your "wish list" are really pedestrian quality, yet I agree that the prices are astronomical. But why not contravene that when a mediocre 375HH sold for $4175 in LH and you can find a Dakota DG rifle for $6000-$7000 that is 100x higher quality? You're giving examples of guns that should cost $750 but for the fact they are LH they are selling for $1750. Why not use the power of the leftie and buy the $13,000 rifle for $6000 because its a leftie?

I'll keep prodding you with a stick, a custom made, left handed stick that I hold wrong in my right hand. :ROFLMAO:

@rookhawk, I solved the majority of my "wish list" acquisitions by buying eight ambidextrous falling blocks. :D

I think that is EXCELLENT advice for lefties. Ruger #1s and Dakota 10s are great rifles that work for southpaws and normal people alike. :ROFLMAO:

The LH CZ 505 Gibbs rifle you are referencing was sent back to Triple River Gunsmithing who did the custom work for CZ USA at the time and re barreled to 505 Gibbs and presumably installed a barrel band and other work, it’s listed at $8600 buy now on GB. So it’s not exactly a pedestrian CZ nor is it 10k.

With that said, it’s still overpriced, I completely agree with you and apparently so do those who scour GB. I think a RH CZ version chambered in 500 Jeffery or 505 Gibbs usually sell in the $6500 ball park. The seller indicates he’ll consider a trade for a RH CZ 505 Gibbs plus cash so apparently he thinks it’s worth more than a RH CZ 505 Gibbs but the market is proving him wrong.

As a righty, I’ll state this for the record: if come across a 375 H&H or larger old world craftsmanship high quality LH bolt action Mauser for an exceptionally great price much lower than a comparable RH model, I’m going to buy it and use it as a righty or teach myself to shoot left handed. :)

I’m referencing the GB listing below, it’s not up for auction, it’s a buy now so no hurt feelings for anyone wanting to bid on it.

You're not that far off, but as a lefty that looks everyday, you're numbers are a bit off. A recent Dakota 76 with extras that I missed at auction sold for 7200, that's 8k after tax and shipping. Popped up again a few weeks later only to be listed for 8500, no extras. After tax, GB fee, and shipping, thats almost 9500. Gone are the days when a D76 LH could be had for 6k. Im sorry but your numbers are off. Then the LOP is always way to short for me, so I pay 9500 for a gun that doesn't even fit me?

To set the record straight on the CZ 505 Gibbs, I posted that when it was originally for sale for 3500 on this forum for our lefty compadres. Some ruffian then bought it and reposted it for almost 3x the price. I hope it gathers much dust and does not sell out of principle.

Yes but my understanding is that Triple River did all of those 505 G and 500 J rifles. Three CZ 505 Gibbs rifles sold on GB early this year, 4900, 5000, and 5900 (with extras). One sold on GI for 4k, and one full custom on GB for 7k. They were all Triple River guns as well then, Presumably. Also, it is 10k. $8600, plus gb fee, plus tax, plus shipping, plus card fees = 9900.

I know card fees are optional, but Im too nervous to send 9500 through the mail on MOs alone. The dude also bought the gun for 3500 on GI. I talked to him and he wants a RH model PLUS $$$$ in trade! The leftie premium is real. Same guy also has a base model rem 700 for 5k…for a base rem 700!

Damn he’s smoking crack! Sorry if he’s a fellow member.

Thank you good sir, we must all hold the line on these scalpers.

This is why I, a lefty, shoot righty rifles… it’s just not worth the time, money, or frustration for me…

Shooting off hand with a bolt action is a good bit slower.. but from the prone, a bench, or off sticks, or really any rest, it’s really just a matter of training… I can operate a bolt action just as quickly and efficiently as most righties…

This late in life I don’t have any real interest in changing or retraining myself to shoot a lefty bolt…

Semi, singles, doubles, lever guns make thing a non issue…

About the only thing I have to avoid are most bullpups… but that has zero impact on hunting

Saw this one, think it’s a bit ambitious but do love that it has the shotgun barrels with it. Looks like it cleaned up well from when I first saw it in July. Chris Sells had it to consign for the owner. Sounded like asking was originally around $24-$25k, which sounded wonderful until he got it in and opened up…there was a lot of freckling in the ti-ni finish on frame and more so on the shotgun forearm furniture. Top lever had loss of bluing too. Chris was going to take the forearm and top level with him the following week to Germany to get it addressed, but the frame was the problem. Looks like most of it brushed/buffed out.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
