Africa sides with Russia in $4 billion military deals as Western influence weakens | Business Insider Africa https://africa.businessinsider.com/...n-military-deals-as-western-influence/tgtltzz
Oh, Africa will take from whoever will give, but they will never make good communists, as they don't want to be the ones doing the giving back. Witness Mozambicans running off into the bush rather than work their turn in the collective farms back when. Their allegiance/alliance with us is only rented, subject to withdrawal for lack of payment. They know that even China cannot foreclose on them to any real effect. They can say to any newcomer, this is Africa, it's for us black people, no matter what you think you have invested, so take a hike. Good thing hunters are paying our way, or hunting opportunity might vanish.

It's easy, you just need to keep track.

All spending bills originate in the House.

The House passed a bill way back in September. That bill went to the Senate.

It has been filibustered in the Senate. To break the filibuster, and to advance the bill, the Senate made some modifications to the House bill. When the Senate passes that modified bill (breaking the filibuster only means they agree to have a vote on the bill), the modified bill goes back to the House.

The House then has choices: agree to the modified bill. That goes to the President for signature. Let's ignore the veto possibility right now. Vote no on the modified bill. That puts us back where we are today (i.e. the Senate modified bill is not approved, and the Senate needs to try again). Modify the modified bill... which then goes back to the Senate, and we can hope that is not filibustered.

I think I have that right.
Thanks I get it now.

The biggest risk I see with government shutdowns is this:

The actual producers, those that legitimately pay taxes discover how irrelevant government is to their lives. The minor inconviences of having a minimal government were delightful. The impacts that I experienced that I could live without in exchange for 90% lower taxes included:

1.) I couldn't renew/obtain an FCC license for HAM radio or similar
2.) My USFWS permits are sitting idle and not reviewed for trophy import
3.) My copyright application sits idle for a published work
4.) Flight delays due to FAA slowdowns

The government's politicians should be very careful about future shutdowns. It's training us, the productive citizens to function without much of any government beyond a libertarian minimalist one.
Your points are well taken. The way I look at it though, is the American people waking up to the fact that we really don’t need as much government as we have, it’s not a risk, it’s a benefit. I asked my friends, some of them are more liberal than I, how are you doing during the shut down? Inevitably they would say everything’s going fine. That’s when I would mention to them that they are like the 95% of Americans, who really don’t need all of the expensive features and benefits of our government.

Except that about 20% of America is on SNAP, WIC, and EBT and 47% of Americans pay ZERO Federal income taxes. One is dependent on the system, the other is not contributing to the system.

It is well known from internal conversations that the Obama administration privately believed that government spending could and even should be cut by up to 50% across the board, and doing so would result in not only a more efficient government but actually a more effective government. Unfortunately, there does not seem to be any appetite in either party to take such an approach in a responsible manner.

Agreed, just like Bill Clinton made major cuts/changes to welfare that were certainly needed.

But then again, both Bill & Hillary as well as Obama were all anti illegal immigration and tough on crime……years ago.

Love me some “Beaver tail”. :A Thumbs Up:

When I hear "Beaver Tail" I immediately cringe thinking of Spanish shotgun forends as copied by Winchester's Model 21. Isn't it funny how a horrible image can absolute ruin what should be a term that brings smiles to a man's face?

Flawed system IMO. If one can legally figure out how to pay as little taxes as possible then fine. I’m sure everyone on AH does their level best to do just that.. If someone works hard and pays what they should as far as the government is concerned AND doesn’t depend on the system then that’s fine. As far as SNAP etc, those are obviously incredibly flawed and inflated programs

For the record I’m in favor of a flat tax

Elon Musk was on Joe Rogan recently. I encourage you all to listen to the podcast. Musk believes that the DNC needs the illegal vote desperately and that entitlements and welfare are incentives to buy votes from illegals. Our good times and abundance are resulting in us cannibalizing our culture. If we treat foreigners better than citizens in need, it is the end of this wonderful experiment in a Representative Republic. God save America.

I concur

Yeah, so Americans can pay for the defense of Europe and it’s security so they can spend their own money on social programs.
Why they don't just leave Europe?

I remember when my father was a professor at Auburn teaching graduate level fish disease classes a good proposition of his students were foreigners. They came from a wide variety of countries Asia, Africa, Europe, Central and South America were all represented. This was in the 70’s and 80’s.

Yup. So 80% don’t need big government.

thanks for your reply bob , is it feasible to build a 444 on a P14/M17 , or is the no4 enfield easier to build? i know where i can buy a lothar walther barrel in 44, 1-38 twist , but i think with a barrel crown of .650" the profile is too light .
