Heym 89b 450NE Gross Box Survived Zim

The Omay North contains a hippo or two, Lake Kariba to the North and river boarding its East/West boundaries. So when in Rome…had go after a hippo on land, which turned into deciding on one wet and one dry to gather the full experience.

This hippo was in a small pool with a bunch of cows and one other smaller bull. We couldn’t ever seem to catch him out feeding or invoke him to come out and play…Gareth thought he was one I’d regret passing up simply because he was standing in water and I agreed…honestly such a gorgeous place to take my first hippo. And he thought they had some additional quota where we could still look for one out roaming land. So was a no brainer.

Proves there's more than one place to obtain ivory! Congratulations.

Great animals, I’ll always have a soft spot for bushbuck especially for a beautiful one like yours.
Great buff and hippos also.

It’s hard to beat the Left, Right punch of the CEB solid and Raptor. Same POI and accuracy across a wide array of speed and rifle design. The Raptors are devastating

Congratulations on a great hunt and excellent shooting. Hope to make it to the Omay one day.

Congratulations on a great hunt and very nice double rifle, love the stock. I currently have a Heym in 450/400 and I also have a 470NE. With my Rigby I almost went with the 450NE but in the end chose to get the 500NE. Somedays I wish I had selected the 450NE.

My simple question is, why?
Because 450 NE is a Rigby cartridge I thought having a Rigby double in a Rigby cartridge would be the way to go. But after I shot the prototype rifle in 500 NE and the felt recoil was actually less than my 470 NE I decided to go with the 500 NE.

Which rigby 500 is it the shikari or rising bite? Isn’t that awesome that the 500 recoil is < 470 you have

My simple question is, why?
At some point, if I buy a Rigby double, vintage or new (which would be Shikari), it will 100% have to be a 450NE. I won’t be without one going forward. It did all but make my 470NE redundant, which is why I’m part way through a swap with another forum member.

Great commentary, what is a Mac special?
Here are is another reason why I call them
Mac Specials…this is the first two rounds through an otherwise new virgin Heym 450NE. How could I not immediately fall in love with the rifle…and the CEB Raptor handloads. Oh, and this was iron sights before adding the RMR.

And what’s the future of your Heym 450 ne ?

Reminds of my first shot standing using tripod at 50 yards, using Hornady DGX factory loads.

I love mine after having a few 470 and 500 NE. I’m keeping my Rigby 450 NE. She is a very plain looking lady but I love her!

Great report, pictures and interesting that the tumbling bullet made it all the way to the off shoulder of the Buff!

I own a 89B 500 NE that I used on Buff last year and plan on using again in 2026. Great guns!

Thanks for sharing!

Hi PaulB,
I have a Ballard Arms Model 1885 chambered for .333 Jeffery Flanged. Do you have any idea where I can get ammo for this?

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if I am doing something wrong!
Thank You!
