This is my Holland & Holland 500/465 NE (1929 Ejector)

The Holland & Holland .500/.465 Nitro Express double rifle is a true icon of the British gun realm, revered for its elegance, power, and reliability. Introduced in the early 20th century as a response to India’s ban on military calibers like the .450, the .500/.465 NE quickly became a favored choice among professional hunters and sportsmen pursuing dangerous game. Crafted with Holland & Holland’s signature attention to detail, these rifles typically feature finely engraved actions, and beautifully figured walnut stocks with horn or case colored steel grip caps. The goal was always regulated barrels to deliver precise convergence, ensuring dependable accuracy at practical hunting ranges. More than just a firearm, a vintage Holland in .500/.465 represented luxury, when bespoke rifles were not only tools of survival but expressions of personal taste and tradition.

Fantastic! Looks like it ready for a new leather butt pad and then another 95 years of service;)

That would be a very interesting one to find handloading components for.

What a beauty, there is nothing else like that era of double.

Super rifle!
I think I like the non-bolstered action Royals like this one over the later style but is it a bit unusual for a 1929 rifle to use this action? I wonder how H&H decided which action to use...

Fantastic rifle. Any history on it or how it came into your possession? How long have you had it? Any hunts yet?

A good point . I have a 1929 Royal in 375 flanged magnum . Same year but the bolstered action. Doesn’t really matter , the 500/465 in photos is superb .

Absolutely gorgeous, what a rifle!
I hope you take it on many safaris

Jealous, that's my dream rifle!
You may want to snag these

It is mule understanding the transitional period was from 1924-1936. They made doubles on both, and it was left up to the customer.

The rifle was completed for a Mr. Wilton Lloyd Smith in 1929. He ordered a pair (this being #2). I bought it in England a couple of years ago. I plan on using it for buffalo in 2027, I’m using a Rigby Rising bite .450 for rhino and buffalo this year.

Very nice double rifle! I wonder where the #1 rifle is hiding. I have an H&H DR built in 1904 in 500/450 with game scene engraving instead of the standard royal scroll.

Hi PaulB,
I have a Ballard Arms Model 1885 chambered for .333 Jeffery Flanged. Do you have any idea where I can get ammo for this?

I am new to this forum so I am sorry if I am doing something wrong!
Thank You!
