Congrats!!!

Going back always sez a lot.

In visiting with Trevor Lake, it appears that Trevor has located another big Kudu on his hunting properties.

You know Trevor is scouting, for the up coming 2015 season. He likes to know where to find the right trophy for clients. Every one has a different list of trophy's that they want to hunt.

If you elect to take Trevor up on a Kudu hunt, make sure you set aside a number of days to spend quality time looking for a very nice Kudu.

They are there, you just have to find them in the Free Range country side. And that is not easy or quick and takes time.

This was a great experience.

James,
The smile says it all. That is just sensational. Congratulations to one of our very own AH legends here.

Guess you won't be doing a scull mount on that one now, would you? ;)

Hi Marious,

This will be a pedestal mount and i think the wife has a spot picked out for it. I am working on a design with the taxidermist now.

We will have 2 pedestals done from trophys on this past hunt and i want to be able to separate them and put them together for display. So wheels are a must and they will have to be mobile to move around as i am tired of sliding the cape buffalo. That sucker has been moved so many times as we keep finding great ways to display him. I have him by my desk now.

I am glad we have 12 foot ceiling, and i though it would look good by my lazy boy chair. Or a new desk and put them by the desk ends.

James I am pleased you got this Bull and appreciated you trusting me with your second hunt with me. Well deserved my friend!!

Outstanding !

And that 61.5 inch Kudu would have looked even bigger if James didn't have that 62 inch smile on his face! :D

awesome bull. good for you. Forrest

What a wonderful trophy James. You must have felt a great rush stalking him. Congrats!

It was actually a nerve racking experience and more for me than for James. I had told him we were after a big one but not how big. I had guessed about 60" from prior sightings, but I told James maybe 55" :) The problem is when you see one this size that it barely fits into your binoculars it is hard to stay calm. He was onto us from about the 400 yard mark and luckily did not pay too much attention until we closed the gap to around 150 I think it was. Good shooting from the sticks on a frontal quartering shot got the job done. And by that time he was almost out of there and off to live another year and leave behind two very frustrated hunters:)

When we arrived to where our spotter located the Kudu, we were 420 yards away, by my range finder. There was no cover from our location to the Kudu. With the sun going down and a few minutes of daylight left, Trevor made the decision to make a frontal walking approach, you know Indian style, with me being 1 step behind Trevor. As we closed the gap, to 250 yards before the 2 Kudu paid any attention to us. At 200 yards the smaller kudu (still quite a nice kudu by the way) moved off to our right. At about 175 the Kudu was on high alert and looking at us head on and 150 yards Trevor placed the stick and we set up in the sticks and then waited for the kudu to turn.

And as they say in the movies the rest is history.

Fantastic Kudu. Thanks for sharing.
