Our stuff was just rejected in calgary. Shoot.
For no other reason, other than everyone's shipments are getting rejected.

Another added expense!

Sorry to hear...!

Wolf watcher, any other details? I have a shipment coming into Montreal likely next week. Sorry to hear it didn,t get through.

NO other details, our broker just phoned and told me. He said they are rejecting now everything regardless of how clean everything is....so off they go to be redipped.
What a waste of money!
Maybe you will get lucky and have someone pass it through!

It seems to me that unless it is fully taxidermied, they will reject it. I am still in RSA now and my taxidermist was saying dip and pack won,t get through. This has been said before, but they are taking the business away from CDN taxidermists with this blanket refusal.

I didn't know Obama was president of Canada too

Just found out the agent rejected it bc he had one fraudluant vet cert. so now he rejects all shipments for this reason.
He apparently gets to make tge decision based on this rather than the actual condition of trophys. So pissed. I have a call in. This is bull. I paid alot of money to have everything done professionally right from the outfitter to the shipper to have this guy decide its not good enough.
Whats the pt of paying dip and pack in africa if we just hae to redo it.

That just sucks.
Sorry to hear you did not win the lottery.

When you complain they will fall back on the new policy initiative.
"Nothing but finished items get through."

I was fortunate with my CFIA Vet. He passed my shipment.
(My stuff looked like they were completed finished though. That well done.)

Get the CFIA Vets name and let us know who to avoid if we can.

If you need a list of approved facilities to do the "treatment" here in Alberta just ask the CFIA. They will let you know.
The list is VERY short.

His name is Travis.
I just want to know why he can reject based on someone elses past paperwork. Innocent until proven guilty? Shouldnt he have to prove my paperwork is fake if he is that confident? I should have some basis for a complaint if he tells my broker that he rejected on past stuff vs the actual condition if the crate. I am guessing e hasnt even looked in it. Such a joke. Pay all that money on the africa side to ensure everything is done professionally. And then have to redo it. Tempted to keep the horns and scrap the rest at this point....

Don't you love government power, Travis?
Unless it's finished taxidermy you guys are temping fate.

Feel bad for you in Canada , it's all a fix for the short list of approved CON-NECTED Taxidermists/ re-dip scam and I use the CON freely because it a con and scam for these short list taxidermists and the HUGE + for african taxidermist that will tell you now you HAVE to get it mounted in country. It's who you know not what you know.

PS I have seen finished taxidermy come stateside from Africa WITH BUGS IN THE MOUNTS ! This is terrible for hunters to deal with in canada. It's a scam.

What options do you have to bring a case before your government? Seems like bull!

Travis has been around for a while.
I think the "past paperwork" issue is misleading.

If they hold to current policy ANY unfinished trophy is to be sent to an Approved facility. Only those outfits that are willing to go through the process and meet the requirements.

It is a bloody waste. They decided to create a "blanket" policy to redirect every unfinished product instead of doing an inspection and making a decision on a case by case basis. Since we have to pay for the inspection out of our pockets I can not see what real difference it makes.

One way or the other you will be paying per animal to have them reprocessed, whether you keep the horns or the entire shipment.. Some approved facilities are better than others price wise.
Transport logistics can be an issue.

SCI Canada, as noted in an attached thread was gathering information to try and get this issue addressed.

If you want to read more.

CFIA policy application was announced last year.
It was not a policy change. It was an "enforcement change"
SCI is apparently attempting to get the Department to change the enforcement of the policy.

Well hopefully I can speak in person to Travis tomorow. My blood has been boiling since I found out at lunch. So unfair.
Why do they make us dip in africa then??

Seriously should have went via US and paid to have stuff tanned at the approved Colorado taxidermist and we would have saved this extra dipping cost.
We have only been given one option for dipping. Select Taxidermists in calgary.

Are all these still on the list??? We are gonna be using Advanced Fur in Vernon to tan anyway. Can we have crate shipped directlyto them from calgary and just have everything tanned once it arrives instead of dipped first then tanned?
If so this might save us the whole redip cost.....

Select Taxidermy Ltd - Calgary, AB
Mountainview Taxidermy - Olds, AB
Alberta Taxidermy - New Sarepta, AB
Orion Taxidermy - Moose Jaw, SK
Northern Tanners - Carrot River, SK
Advance Fur Dressers - Vernon, BC
River Valley Tanners -Kenville, MB
International Fur Dressers & Dyers, Ltd - Winnipeg, MB

That looks like the entire list that I have been provided.
Select is the only one IN Calgary.

Advance Fur is on the list and you are set.
The crate has to be shipped by an approved method. Wrapped, enclosed etc. (Never know when a bug might leap off the crate)
Advance Fur should be able to direct you on their shipping procedures.
Get on it quick before you start being charged for storage. (More insult to injury)

"Post-Entry Disinfection (For Unprocessed Products Originating in Various Countries)

Many unprocessed items entering Canada from non-designated countries require cleaning and disinfection. At the time of import, the premises where the imported material will be disinfected must be listed in a database of approved facilities, and thus available to the CFIA inspector for the material in question to proceed for cleaning and disinfection. The premises approval must have been carried out within the 24 months prior to the importation. If there have been no prior arrangements for a facility to carry out the cleaning and disinfection of the imported materials, the items may be retained for a maximum of 30 days, awaiting premises approval. On the 31st day after importation, the item is refused entry and either destroyed or returned to the country of origin at the importer's expense.

Unprocessed items must be transported in leak-proof containers, bearing a CFIA seal. All items must proceed directly from the port-of-landing to the pre-approved disinfection premises."

You have joined a large and growing crowd of hunters and taxidermists that are ticked off by the policy.
Travis is just the messenger.

"Clarification about importing hunting trophies
Ottawa, September 10, 2013: The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) wants to clarify information about bringing hunting trophies into Canada, including hides and skins, wool, hair and feathers.

Some stakeholders received information that implied that the CFIA Importation of Integumentary Tissues Policy was changed. This is not the case. The confusion may have stemmed from some minor modifications that were made to the policy in order to update the language.

Importing hunting trophies is regulated under The Health of Animals Regulations, Sections 42 and 50, and the import requirements for trophies are outlined in the CFIA Importation of Integumentary Tissues Policy.

The CFIA’s animal product import requirements are aimed at preventing foreign animal disease, such as foot-and-mouth disease, from entering Canada and posing a risk to human and animal health.

The CFIA reminds importers who are bringing animal hunting trophies across the border that these items need to be clean, disease-free and conform to CFIA policy.

For more information, consult the CFIA Importation of Integumentary Tissues Policy. If you have specific questions, contact the respective CFIA Area Import Specialist."

So can it go straight to advanced fur and be tanned out o tge crate rather than dipped first then tanned??

The tanning process for your taxidermy counts as disinfection.
So, no duplication.

Unprocessed items must be transported in leak-proof containers, bearing a CFIA seal.
All items must proceed directly from the port-of-landing to the pre-approved disinfection premises."

As an pre-approved facility, Advance Fur can take the shipment straight from the Port of Entry.
I assume they still have their status with the CFIA.
Contact Advance and make arrangements for the shipment.
Good luck.

So if you do the tanning in Africa does that suffice???
