Lion hunts in RSA

I would say must of the kudu, springbucks, nyala, impala and so on are raised to be hunted.I will take advantage of her being raised to be hunted for my son to have the chance for one now.May not be the hunt for everyone but it works for me just like the pheasant hunts we do for stocked birds.Times have changed from years ago and it is a fact of life now. Some animals are raised for sport hunting and have a place now in the hunting world.

Here's a thought Bill, we are all looking forward to your hunt reports... But without your influence, have your son write down his own impression of the hunt and the trip. Even if it is on the plane ride home. But it would great for him to jot down a few notes the evening of the lion hunt while still fresh.

Then file away your report and his with other important documents that will survive the years. He and his son may really enjoy reading these "pheasant hunt" reports!

I only hope and prey the opportunity exists for your son to take his son on a lion hunt in the future.... Captive or not, but likely if possible at all, it will be captive.

That is a great idea and I will have him write some notes and then a report.Shame of it is he would more then likely not get to do such a report for like a school project.I am sure that is a no no as someone may not approve.
I to hope he will get to take his child on such a hunt.I think hunting will stick with him through his life as I tried to start him early and make it fun.We even just went hiking and sight seeing if we got lucky and harvested early when outwest.I always made it no pressure to take a animal or have him worry about eating a tag if we did not have any luck because it was always about the trip.

A Nat Geo video showing lions that were hand raised and imprinted....really.

Sorry, I wasn't able to link the specific time of the video. Watch from 28 min forward. Very similar reaction from lions as in your link.

Vevew, you should be happy and thank me. I decided to take my lion on a ranch TO NOT AFFECT the wild population and I did make that choice with much thought. If I had not had that option I would have taken a wild lion. So my choice to take a S A raised DID IN FACT Help the wild populations in my view and help in conservation of the wild lions.

No not a similar reaction at all. The arrowed lion waiting for another arrow?! If you paid attention to the video that I pointed you towards you would have noticed that lioness had an arrow in her and was not pleased at all. I would venture to say that is one of the drugged lions still groggy.

So the few who do it wrong are now representative of all? There's an outfit in Tanzania that has lost it's license due to it's unlawful practices. I would presume under your "logic" that all Tanzanian outfitters are the same and therefore should all be banned.

You need not expect further replies from me, your time would be better spent on Facebook posts slamming Spielberg.

This isn't hunting! This is no different than shooting a cow in a fenced paddock! The poor buggers don't stand a chance!

For me,right words,absolutely.
Are you going hunting ,or trophy gathering, this is the question ?
Look at brickburns lions pics-one cat fatter then the other.Discusting animals, next week they get a hart-attack.
When you are in SA and take a look in a farmer magazine, lions will be trade there like pigs and cows,no kingly animals anymore.
The powerful international anti hunting liga, make our live always difficulter and these is a permanent drop.
Tell a British game hunter, that you have shot a lion in a greater garden,he will disprize you as a hunter for the rest of your life.

Okay, I understand. I did read another comment elsewhere saying:
"if there is no legally-sanctioned way of hunting these sorts of animals, people will do it illegally instead. Its the same with drug laws; its better to regulate and work on damage control than to completely abolish it. If we want hunters to leave the wildlife alone, let them hunt the things that aren't wild."

I understand that. This leads me to the conclusion that somehow everyone should just accept that some people just want to kill lions, even when the animal is in a tiny confined fenced space (as seen in the video I linked). To me that doesn't look like hunting or sport, because that is not challenging at all.

I've asked one specific question from many hunters, and I have never got a good answer; all I get is insults and whatnot.
The question is: Why do you enjoy it (canned hunting)?

I don't mean the trophy hunting of wild animals. I sort of understand it. Hunting wild game is challenging and it can indeed help the wildlife population when managed correctly. I mean canned hunting; the act of killing a captive bred animal that has zero chance of escaping, and poses no threat to the hunters. Where is the challenge in that? Where is the fun?

So the few who do it wrong are now representative of all? There's an outfit in Tanzania that has lost it's license due to it's unlawful practices. I would presume under your "logic" that all Tanzanian outfitters are the same and therefore should all be banned.

Alright, I ask anyway, in hope that someone else will pick this up to educate me:
How large percentage of lion hunting happens in similar matter as seen the video I linked? I don't know the answer, but those are the kind of videos that are picked by the news. I know wild trophy hunting is very different, but I'd like to know the scale of each of them. I've heard that there are 8000 captive lions in South Africa, that are bred specifically for canned hunting.

............... the act of killing a captive bred animal that ......... poses no threat to the hunters. ...........

This Lion was only trying to give the guy a hug right?

I would suggest that you contact the Large Predator Association and they will be able to provide you with some facts.

PM Sent.

I don't understand how the lion's deadliness has any relevance to anything. .......

Can you understand why people: Base jump, and Skidiving, Bungee Jumping, Roller Coasters, Race Cars?
All with minimal efficacy in my mind but people find it exciting and dangerous.

Here is a Wing Suit video from close to home (Norway) for you.
Apparently, Base Jumping is not good enough for these guys.

I really stressed that I was talking about canned hunting; the kind of hunting as seen in the video I linked.

Amazing you can not tell the difference between the various "estate" "ranch" "canned" hunt videos.
If you watch it you can see a power pole in the back ground.
Not a lot of power poles out in the "wild".
This was one of the first videos I ever witnessed on the net depicting an "attack".

There are a few European tourist that have given their lives or been injured by "tame" Cheetah, Leopard, etc.
Lion's are bloody dangerous. Raised or otherwise.

I personally avoid watching most of the videos. There are plenty of people who conduct themselves in a manner other than I would, some are even hunters.
Apparently some people who also claim to be attempting to protect wildlife.
http://www.africahunting.com/thread...-protect-african-elephants.16398/#post-130481

What do you think of an organization that conducts itself in this manner?

I think if this hunt is no challenge, all the anti-fence lion people should do a self guided hunt, after all it's a cake walk right?

I could never understand the emotion tied up with hunters turning on hunters. It just goes back to my original theory....too many people have hate and jealousy in their heart. Why does any one but an anti-hunter care how some one acquires a lion?

Anyone furthering the discussion with Vevew is like talking to a Democrat. They can't comprehend that some people have a opinion and have the right to make choices on their lives that differ from how they think. Very Simple Minded and will not allow you to have your rights to pursue your life as you choose, Legally. The Answer to your question that you say you never got. It's so simple but your mind cannot wrap around it because you won't admit people have the right to choose what they do when they do it and how they do it when it's legal. They do it because they like it. They do it because it's legal and it's their choice.
