well my mounts from Limpopo last April done by Trophy Solutions in Polokwane have finally made the trip to Chicago and Laura with Coppersmith is handling everything. They arrived on Delta this past Friday were being moved to Coppersmiths warehouse this past Monday. they are still waiting on F&G to clear then Customs and have found me a trucking company to deliver them to So Dakota for 299.00 so no 9 hour drive to Chicago. and it would have cost the same with gas and food and a hotel for the night. It just sucks knowing they are so close and having to wait. So my wife told me since I have to wait on them and they are going in the living room she wants me to paint the walls, I do not know which is worse. Waiting or painting

Hey look on the bright side, they are closer to home than they were a year ago. We just got back. Long wait ahead of us.

I just got back on May 5th so my wait for the next mounts will be sometime next year I'm sure

I've been sitting my my "trophy room" looking at what I have on the walls and deciding on where to place 3 more mounts that should be showing up in the near future.

Painting would keep your mind off of the shipping plus you will have it all done and ready for when they show up and you won't have to deal with painting again for a number of years.

well I will be done with the painting today and now it is time to start thinking about how to mount the 3 euro heads on the walls, the Gemsbuck is a floor pedestal mount and I have already built that and the Jackal hide will just hang on a warthog tusk. next year will be more challenging, Kudu and Zebra shoulder mounts, Sable floor pedestal (will have to build that one) same as the last one 2 Warthog skulls and the Cape Buffalo euro mount and then no more my wife says. but she also said when are you going again? 2024 or 2025? we'll see

warthog

You've got time. Painting zebra stripes on the wall will take a while. She may regret turning that project over to you. That'll teach her!

And the mounts will quickly end up in the garage.

The lady's of the house just humor their husband's interior decorating style when it comes to THEIR home and animal mounts

I rectified that by closing in our garage and making it my trophy room. It’s a full 2 car garage but I wish it was a 4 car, about out of room.

Congrat on getting the walls painted...and the mounts so close! I'm about a month behind you, crates are sealed n waiting shipment to Chicago. Laura with Coppersmith is handling our two boxs of memories as well...shipping from CH to northern MN (Duluth). Hope our cost is close to yours.

are they going by Delta or Turkish Airlines?

The painting for sure!

Did you do a hunt report for the trip you're about to receive, alway enjoy a good report?

That's great news, I just found out my taxidermist in RSA is finished with my stuff and is in a crate waiting for permits and such before shipping. Definitely makes time go slow knowing they're just sitting around lol

We are using SBS LOGISTICS for shipping, I assume they are flying with Delta, don't know. I'm told rates have gone up again, 2400 final cost. Happy the crate is on its way, not happy about the cost/lack of control you have. Gotta trust the people you meet in RSA are making good decisions.

Nothing like “Africa time” I think it goes backwards , a week seems like a month!

I used SBS last year, they held my crate at my request for a couple of months to find a better rate, this saved me about $600. The original quote was roughly $4000 and ended up paying $3400. The crate was 4’x8’ and had a volumetric weight of about 200#. It flew Turkish Airlines to Atlanta. SBS was probably the best exporter I’ve worked with but AHG shipping was hard to judge because of the Covid panic in 2020. Don’t remember much about EMIAC out of Mozambique in 2014.

Thanks. Just received email from taxidermist. My stuff has finally been crated. I am searching out shipper myself now that I have the dimensions. Rex Forwarders screwed me royally last year so this taxidermist had specific instructions to NOT deal with them. It's pretty obvious the last taxidermist was in on the screwing. Already have a quote from EMIAC and it looks a bit high but still less than HALF the price of last year's shipment for 2021 trophies, and this 2022 shipment has more skulls and capes!

I would check with Badger Cargo, they treated me fairly, Condor upped the price about 350-400 at the last minute. Laura at Coppersmith said to use Delta. and not Turkish as they are holding in their warehouse at the airport and then nailing you with storage, but next year when the Buffalo comes home there will be no choice but Turkish since Delta will not ship any big 5

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
Thanks,
Ross
