SOUTH AFRICA: TIA

For sure. I'm hoping it gets better soon.

We're wheels up April 10th. We're flying KLM.
Fingers crossed. Amsterdam has been the worst over this last year.
I hope y'all have a great trip and fun safari!

We are now in a nice lodge on a game reserve near Kimberly.

Fiancé found another interesting animal she wanted to add to her collection this morning.

Funny about Airlines. We went thru Amsterdam last year and had no problems. Started getting warning about cancellations and delays the 2nd day of our hunt. Really didn't care if we got stuck where we were as it was a great place. Returning we had no problems.

KLM is the best carrier for travel from Calgary to Johannesburg. It gets us there in 22.5 hrs, counting the 2.5 hr layover in Amsterdam. Other common routes are through London or through Frankfurt. Layovers tend to be much longer.

Enjoying the story Sourdough. Keep it coming.

Pretty cool game viewing vehicle including a bullet proof cockpit for the driver. Former South Africa Defense Force vehicle.

One of the towns we drove through we spotted this business. Apparently you arrange for your funeral and get beef products. I’m unsure which comes first.

One of the things I like about South Africa is how folks help each other on the road. (Rare in America these days)

First vehicle by was a diamond miner and his two young sons. He pulled in front of us and immediately was in the dirt helping to change the tire.

Point South Africa.

The rifle belongs to @HENRY GRIFFITHS SAFARIS who is our PH.

Howa bull barrel , cera coated, trigger he did himself. .308 155 gr at 2660 fps

Slow and steady wins the race

scope is zeiss 5-25 with varmint reticule

15 moa rail with warne mounts

It has killed over 2,000 animals.

Awesome report. Love remembering a lot of the areas you have described and visited. Your temperament is admirable, and in Africa, as well as now in the USA, is to just remain calm, and go with the flow. Blessings for a fabulous trip. You certainly seem to be enjoying yourselves!

At the lodge in the Kalahari. Africa is tough on tires.

Anyone have a source for pith helmets like these?

Experiencing one of those “we don’t hunt on Sundays” which is kinda weird for an American, especially since I’ve hunted in Africa before. Tomorrow is the last hunting day probably then we are heading home.

Thanks.

THe travel situation has improved and will continue to do so. I am sure y'all will have a great safari!

I follow the travel industry since I take groups on safari. I hear all of the goings on with the airlines. Amsterdam completely stopped handling luggage at one point! Delta sent a plane to AMS empty just to get luggage last year. Last year was bad but it is behind us. Now if the world would stop paying everyone to not work then maybe the airlines et al will be able to hire workers!
