Not quite the same thing, lol. A winter day in last picture, is like a walk in the park most days in northern NA, lovely weather actually. Now the snowy weather that last 4-6 months, that is quite a nightmare to me now, I hate it. People can't drive in it worth a crap and travel plans get ruined a lot.

No fan of the heat of Phoenix and will not retire here. That said as much time as I've spent in the Arizona outdoors, I've yet to see a rattlesnake. In fact, the only one I've ever seen in the wild was much closer to Canada then Arizona, it was on a country road in Idaho, go figure.

Now if you have an issue with crickets and cockroaches by the millions wanting to invade your home and the scorpions and black widows who follow them, well then you have a spot on point!

We have a few of the same critters up here but they are so few and far between. In all the crawling around I have done up here I have never seen one.

Camouflaged little bastards aren't they?
Only ever seen 2 sidewinders near Yuma dove hunting in Sept and one small rattlesnake near Morenci bear hunting. They just wiggle away with no issues. Now, I've seen 2 BIG Puff Adders in Namibia, 2 Cape Cobras in Namib and lots of Black Mamba tracks in Zim, much more than any venomous snakes here in the USA.
Retire in Phoenix? No way No How WAY too hot. Up here in Page it's a lot better except that this week it'll be down to 12 degrees at night. And, we don't get 4 months of butt deep snow here. 2 days and it's gone.

I killed 3 canebrake rattlesnakes in one day near Port Gibson, MS. Usually killed one or two each year.
Biggest one I've killed had 17 rattles, if I remember right. I'm too lazy to go over and count them, so I may be off by 1 or 2.
I have it mounted in a glass case. shot it with my bow/arrow.

Thankfully, because of that nasty winter weather I enjoy in Southern Africa. I have managed to see only one snake track and no encounters.
I keep bumping into scorpions though. They are so cold they just stay put. :sleeping:

Say what you want about the rain in the NW of the US, but we dont have scorpions, black widows, rattlesnakes, lots of snow (accept the mountains), or real hot weather (on the wet side of the Cascades anyways). In my 6 trips to Africa I have seen a couple of real small snakes in Tanzania, one big ass python in Zim in '96, no scorpions or other poisonous insects. One of my Zim trackers did a quick attempt at orbit to avoid a cobra once. When he came back down he was several feet sideways of where he started from. I was right behind him. Thats close enough! I'll take the rain and mild temps of my corner of the country.

It was still quite pleasant in RSA when I arrived in late May this year. That will be the earliest I ever show up in Africa for precisely that reason. Out in the red sands of the Kalahari we didn't so much as see a track of a snake and believe me I was looking.

I'll take the Mogollon rim country. There's always the threat of wildfire but having the elk roaming around your yard, well there's something to be said for that.

I would look like the Michelin Man dressed up in that weather......wait, I look like the Michelin Man right now. If I dressed up for that kind of temperature I would look like a bowling ball and couldn't move. Then I would freeze to death.
