Elephant hunt in Zimbabwe
Hi!!!!!
Merry christmas and happy new year!
I have seen thare are good offers to hunt elephant in Zimbabwe in the Kariba area in places such as Omay, Chete, Charara... and others.
Has anyone hunted in those areas? what are do you think is best for elephant? what area do you like better?
I hunted in Omay North before, but never hunted elephant just buff and hipo there.
What dyou you think abouth elephant hun in the Omay? sout or North?
What should I expect from those areas in terms of ivory?
Any further recomendation?
I have a lot ideas in mind and I want to organize a Safaris for next 2012 to use my new 470NE!
Thanks

The north and west is the place to be prior to the water running out. some wells have been drilled on a few of the concessions to try and hold the elephants from crossing over.
I also was looking for a elephant hunt for 2014 or 2015 and this was the best chance for a nice 50 to 65 lb trophy elephant for the price.
PM me if you want the infor i searched for.James Grage - New Mexico

Charara or Chirisa will be better for trophy elephant but will also be more pricey.
Omay will have an average of 40 to 55lbs bulls and If I was trying for Trophy Ele there then April would likely be the time I would go so as to try for a bull coming from the Park to raid the fields.
Another two good options would be the State Forests around Wankie National Park or the private ranches of the Midlands.

Chewore North is one of the best places for Tuskless Cow hunting. In fact its almost to good as you will usually be able to score within three days. Great if you combine it with a Buffalo.

I want to hunt ele bull, and also I am trying to combine it with buffalo.
Is there any difference of hunting elephant bull in the Omay and Makuti?
Those concesions are not far away each other. But I heard Makuti is better for ele bull than the Omay.
I am not interested on hunting the biggest bull on earth I am just looking for a good elepahnt hunt experience in an area where I have the chance of hunting an average bull.
I already got the prices of makuti and I will meet Martin at the DSC next weekend.
What you guys think?
I will also have a look at other options at DSC, but i belive in terms of prices those options I mention are the best in decent areas. am I right?

Have hunted next to Dande and spent a night in DS camp along with flights over the country. have also driven through the rugged Makuti area as a main road to Zambia and the Lower Valley travels right through it.
Makuti along with Nyakasanga have Local elephant present plus ones moving through from Mana Pools National Park.
Dande will give a better African experience imo and has the Elephant coming over from Mozambique in the early season for crops and latter in the season for water.
Dande east has major communal fields with a big Jesse bush belt from which the Ele raid from. Having big areas communal farming means poaching will limit the PG but the crops, Jesse and proximity to Mozambique will make it good for early season Elephant. DN and DS will be better for late season Ele and will have better PG and Buffalo due to feed and water springs .
C&M Safaris will be able to provide more accurate info on top of this.
Another good outfitter of this area is Gavin Rorke and Doug Carlisle.
I have quite a few friends hunting Dande this season for Buff and Tuskless.

I have been examining PH's in the makuti area for years...the bulls are hard to find at the best of times! I would go with Martin in the Omay! Just me tho!
