KUDU RIFLES

Have so many rifles cant decide which one to bring on my may 2013 hunt for large Kudu. Should i use a classic like 7x57 or go big with my 375 H&H. Something in the middle? Help me please!!

Take an 8mm rem mag, if for no other reason than I beleive it is among the few calibers that has no haters or followers on here thus far. I dont even think it has been mentioned.

Bart, you will only take the largest bore you own.

I am a 375 guy, so u know what my vote is...

Take whatever you shoot the best, provided it's in the .308 Win class or bigger. Use good bullets, shoot well, enjoy!

Like the old indian guide said "any gun good gun if you shootim good." I feel a good premium bullet is more important than caliber within reason say 7mm to 375

Kudu are mostly hunted in thick bush..so go with the .375 and good (whichever your rifle shoots best) 230, 250, 260 or 270gr ammo. Why take a chance on a 60+ Kudu..?

Anything from 6.5 mm(.264) and up with a good bullet will easily kill a Kudu.
I would never risk to shoot trough bush unless it is very close to the animal. No matter what caliber my gun was.
To much to go wrong in my opinion.

I would take the gun you shoot the best at long range, but also that you can shoot well with when you need to take a quick shot without support at shorter ranges.
I think when you have the goal to shoot a real wild 60"+ Kudu, you need to be able to take advantage of the one chance you might get.

The guns I have that I would consider to use myself if I should go on a hunt like yours, is a 6.5-06, a suppressed 308 and a 375 Ruger.
I shoot them all well, but I would take the 6.5-06 for sure because it is the gun I am the most confident with at all distances and in any shooting positions and situations.

Not because of the recoil, but because I have owned the gun for 20+ years and have shot hundreds of animals with it. So shooting with it, is like being on auto pilot.

So if I was you on this hunt, I would not care much about caliber/cartridge. I would take whatever gun you have that shoots a .264 bullet or larger that you shoot the best in any situation.

Kudu occur in à variety of habitat from flat thick combretum Sandy areas to broken Hill country, talk to your outfitter with regards to average shot distance and base your choice on the info provided......

Bart take both and shoot one kudu with each.. there problem solved

The only two Kudu that I ever shot were on the same day. I shot one in the morning and then another that afternoon.

They were both shot with a 30.06, and neither one of them ever complained.

Sitting somewhere in the Az woods waiting for elk to bugle.....

Inside 200 yards use your .375 with a 300 grain bullet and knock him flat. Outside that use a .300WM with 180 or 200 grain bullet.

Now back to this years silent elk hunt.

K then, 35 Whelen for my next trip, but, Kudu are not on the list. I will never say it's the best (after all it's based on the 30-06 case)...Anyway, I feel that it preforms and has preformed great on every critter I have put a bullet in. If I am going to hunt something that requires more, then the 458 win mag will be in my hands.

If you like the 7mms (I do!), then take that 7x57 or perhaps a .280 Rem., or the metric version 7x64, my current favorite. Put a good 160gr Nosler, or other premium bullet in the boiler room and DRT!

BTW you big bore guys. There is a verrry nice .404 Jeff on GB right now, custom M70 Win with stock by Sterling Davenport for no reserve starting bid
of only 3K. I told the seller to check this place out so he might list it here.

You are just trying to make Bart's gun safe bulge.

About the best kudu rifle is a 300 Win Mag. The 338 Win and 375 H&H would be nice in the brush. That being said, a good 7 mm Rem Mag would be fine. And a 270 Win is adequate, if you pick your shots.
