PRVI Partizan GROM for 300wm
Hi,
Has anyone picked up any of this PRVI Partizan GROM ammo?
I picked up a box of 170gr GROM for my 300wm and it shot really nicely.
a lot less recoil than the 220gr PMP I normally use.
Fired a couple of rounds into a tree and the results were impressive.
Complete pass through of the 170gr, yet the 220gr stuck about 2/3rds of the way into the tree.
I know thats not a great test, but the real test will have to wait till hunting season opens!!!
Has anyone tried / used these rounds before and if so, please share your feelings about them.
The price was very reasonable in comparison to the other ammo we get here, roughly 2/3rds to 1/2 the price of PMP!!
From their website, it looks like the lead core runs only half the way down the round.
We dont get many choices here so if anyone can share their experiences with this round or something similar to shed some light on it for me, that would be great.
Pete

Just an update...
Went out yesterday hoping to take a couple of animals with these 170gr PRVI GROM.
Not likely. This latest box i bought is all over the place. First shot yesterday is 6in high and 2 in right. second shot with no adjustment is 8in low and 1 in left.
I then put through 2 PMP rounds and they were 1/4in left and 3/4 in left of bull.
The first box of PRVI i bought seemed ok, not great but ok. this box is just ridiculous, has anyone had this happen where a box is just really bad like that?
I usually shoot 1-1.5in groups with the 220gr pmp's, the 'good' box of prvi shot 2-3in groups. This latest box gets me about 1-1.5ft groups!!
i can handle 2-3in groups for practice and play because of their price and the lack of ammo here, i tend to keep the 220gr for hunting, but at really random impact points, i am not shooting these prvi any more.

For sure, I guess that is why it is 1/2 price of other ammo.
I am off to Lake Tanganyika for a week or so next week and then down to SA on 10th Aug for another week or so.
How long are you coming in for? Let me know when you get in and lets see if we can meet up.
Cheers

Many years ago I bought a bulk box of .264 bullets from Midway. I don't remember the brand for sure but I think it was Remington. Those bullets were totally useless. The case peeled of the bullets copper jacket when you set the bullet and I was lucky to make 6" groups at 100 meters with a gun that put everything else in 1/4-1" groups.....
I also shot a deer at about 50 meters to test it out and it was like a small grenade hit it.
Seemed like the bullet was made of very soft lead painted with copper paint....
The about 400 bullets I had left of the 500 bulk left my home with the garbage truck. Was not even useful for practice.
Usually something is cheap for a reason...

I use Partisan, but ONLY for training, when the goal is to shoot hundreds of shoots pre-season. Honestly, would never use them for anything else.
Typically, at 180 yards, shooting with a blaser R8, you will get 5-6 perfects shots (95-100) then a couple will go everywhere but on target... They are not reliable ammunition, to say the least!
Again, they are very cheap, and hence useful on the range when your goal is really shooting... and shooting... and shooting more. This is why I keep using theem, then switch to high quality ammunition and set my scope properly before the seasons starts.

That sounds about right for this ammo. If they will stick to even a 3" group at 100m, then I am happy to use them for practice and general toying around, then move on to good quality ammo for hunting.
I'm glad its not just me that has had issues with accuracy, I seriously started doubting my shooting skills!!
After putting good rounds through and getting 3/4" at 100m, i realized i was fine (thankfully), it was the ammo that let me down.
