I actually had this holiday explained to me yesterday. It reminds me of U.S. Thanksgiving and Independence Day all rolled into one.

If you haven't, check out the links that Wheels put up. Pretty dang cool!!!!

Salute to all.

@Bos en Dal Safaris Boet, I mentioned that I remembered open fields and not very many trees the first time I visited the Monument. This is my parents photo. I believe the photo was taken from the driveway down by the highway. This thread made me start digging into the archives. Photo had been printed on paper leading to poor quality.

Thank you for posting this. I enjoyed learning about this very fascinating holiday.

What it takes to pack up your family and move into the unknown in order to better provide for them is a tremendous testimony to the human spirit. (y)

Makes me think of my late grandmother, an 1894 pioneer & early settler into the new Rhodesia. Their wagon trains left Edenburg in the Cape and travelled to Melsetter / Chipinga area of the then Rhodesia... she was just 6 yrs old!! Hers was the second great trek into Rhodesia, following behind the trail blazing trek of the Moodie family, I believe in 1892. Her vivid stories of this trek are clear in our minds... she used to tell these to us when we were still small kids. A brave and very wise woman, her family originally from the Isle of Man and went to the colonies ( now RSA ) with the 1820 settlers, settling mostly in the EASTERN CAPE and gradually migrating North.

I would be interested in it if you pass. Please send me the info on the gun shop if you do not buy it. I have the needed ammo and brass.
Thanks,
