Here are a few photos from my last solo backpack hunt from the west coast of the south Island. It involved a 25Km hike to get to the head of the valley . Weather wise I had a bit of everything, heavy rain a bit of snow and enough fine breaks to get out and have a good look around. Over the six days I had hunting I saw 5 Bull Tahr and 16 Chamois.

Typical west coast side stream.

Bluff system at head of stream.

A nice Chamois Buck. His small body size made his horns look bigger than 91/4 inches.

A great place to be when the sun comes out.
th_049.jpg

A bigger Chamois, longest horn just under 10 inches shortest 93/4 inches.

Looking at the main ridge of the Southern Alps.

Bull Tahr-it was starting to get a bit cold as well.

Welcome to AH Mike!

Nice looking animals. I would say that you worked for them. Good job. Bruce

Beautiful country. Chamois are a favorite bucket list item for me. Congrats

Thanks for sharing.
Gorgeous country.

Sure looks like a high elevation Rocky Mountain Sheep or Goat Hunt.
Snow, rain, cold, sunny, incredible vistas, fog...

Congratulations on your success.

I'll have another go at getting these photos right!

Take some extra money for the helicopter Roger. Good luck.
Take lots of pictures. If your experience is anything like Mike is laying out here you should have a great time.

Nice stuff, I have to admit I took the helo route in 2008 before they stopped all the good stuff, Franz Glaicer was were we hunted mine, is that close to yours?

Thanks Brickburn, guide and I will doing a spike camp for the Tahr, and being two more hunters are going along, the Heli is NC. A nice savings.

I see you portfolio does not list NZ, when you going?

Bigun, just south of Franz Josef.

Roger, good luck for your tahr hunt. The west coast has higher animal numbers than the east side of the alps mainly due to there being more cover for them to hide, I'm sure have alot of fun.

Cool stuff for sure, I remember standing on a ledge going hmmm hope the helo comes back that be a long walk down lol, so you the man for doing with your feet congrats again

Nice pictures! I would like to do a hunt like that someday!

Great looking animals and great photos.
Thanks for sharing! :)

I hope to be able to make a DIY hunting trip to NZ in 2014 myself.
I will bring both a gun and my bow :)
