Mixture of emotions today. Just picked up my newest rifle - a .300 win mag to replace my (very) old Browning A-bolt, which has served me well. The great part is that the new rifle is perfect; the bad is that with a new .300 to add to my newish .375 H&H, .404 Jeffery and .416 Rigby, I don't think I'll be commissioning any new rifles in the future. Unless I can identify a need . . .

Pictures of the new .300 are below; I hope they come through. The rifle was made by Ralf Martini of Martini Custom Gunmakers. Ralf started out on the metal side of gunmaking, but he fell in love with English guns and became an expert in stock making. (In fact, he designed the stock for the Heym Express rifle - known as the "Heym Express by Martini"). The action on mine is based on the Mauser M98, and he does pretty much everything else himself.

The barrel is 24 inches; the action is color-case hardened, and the scope has Talley detachable mounts. I put a Swarovski 1.7-10x42 Z6i on it. It holds 4 rounds in the magazine and one up the spout if I feel the need. Leather-wrapped recoil pad.

The gun points like a great English shotgun; I haven't shot it yet, but I've seen the targets and it can shoot way better than I can. Ralf has also done a lot of work on the steel sights, and while I don't expect to have to remove the scope from a .300 very often, it's nice that it can shoot very well that way as well.

I just got back from a hunt a couple of weeks ago, or I'd be initiating it this summer . . . but I will find something to hunt with it soon!

Wow Hank, that is a fine rifle! Looking forward to your range report.

WOW!
Very nice shooting iron. Congrats.
Canada, hmmm. I may have to ask for something to get added to my Christmas list.

If you really want another new one I'll try and help you through to finding the need.

Just wow....

Hank,

That is, well, just wow...

ok @Hank2211 i have identified the missing rifle in your list that you NEED next. it is an english type bolt action african rifle using an interarms mini mauser action with iron sights, and a qd scope with claw mounts in .223 cal as shown below. this will compliment your bigger calibres nicely, and you will have great fun shooting those dangerous spring hares and other assorted small dangerous antelopes and dog like things ;)

That's a lovely rifle Mike. It might be easier to take that to Africa than the .223 I own - which is a Smith & Wesson M&P 15!

Beautiful rifle Hank.

Hope it shoots as good as it looks.

On the other hand, I have a more conventional Ruger Hawkeye in .223 as well!

My wife wonders if I'm arming a militia . . . if I was in Africa, I think I would!

I am drooling!! Congrats on your new rifle. Kevin
