My name is Nick and I live in Southeast Idaho. I am excited about being a part of this forum and all things Africa. I am an elementary school principal and breed and train upland bird dogs and do a bit of outdoor writing on the side. I've been to Africa 6 times and have spent time in 20 countries their. I've hunted plains game on 3 of those trips and am looking to set up a dangerous game hunt, probably for tuskless or management elephant, for 2015. Looking forward to learning from you.

You are a school administrator that has not gone to the Dark Side! I bet your school is FUN! As an introduction I am the high school biology teacher that causes high school principals to have gray hair. :sneaky:

Welcome Nick, might you be from Pocatello? I lived there for about 9 years and miss it badly.

Welcome to the best African Hunting website there is Nick. Lotsa great guys here who share your outdoor passion and love helping fellow hunters out.

You live in one of my favorite states. I drew a moose tag in the panhandle in '08. I added OTC elk & deer tags, spent 4.5 weeks hunting & exploring and had a blast. It's a great hunting state with lots of opportunity. I need to get back there!

I live in Inkom, just ten miles south. Moved here 5 years ago from the midwest (St. Louis and Nashville) for the hunting opportunities. Love it here!

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome.

I breed American Brittanys. I train mostly upland pointing dogs, but also work with flushers. On occasion I will do basic handcasting for duck dogs and force fetch, but prefer working with the pointers. My buddy and I have a site: www.covemountainkennels.com. I love living in SE Idaho. The big game hunting is great. I run three hounds for bear and lions and do pretty well with them, but am not at a point where I feel comfortable breeding hounds. I leave that to the guys with 25 who breed their best two. The upland bird hunting is very good, with 7-8 species very close to where I live.

I will try to get some pics and hunt reports up in the near future. (I don't have work until August so I have no excuses.) I hunted the Kalahari with Johan Kotze of Kalahari Hunting Safaris in 2005 and had a blast. Great outfit. Hunted Kwa-Zulu Natal with a small time PH/outfitter named Pierre Duval of Bushbaby Safaris (he does mostly photo tours) in 2006 while traveling from Nairobi to Cape Town overland. Had a nice hunt. Just got back from the Eastern Cape with Dave Davenport's Leopard's Valley Safaris with PH Dawie Jordann. First class operation and they worked their tail off to get me and my dad opportunities (caracal, 17 inch bushbuck, 17 inch blesbok, 5 1/4 duiker and much more).

Awesome! Hope you got your moose. I got mine by the house 3 years ago, but 5 miles from a road or trail. Not fun after the shot. My wife got hers in September a couple hours north and managed to drop it 20 yards from the road. It was a much easier pack-out!

Oh yeah, I know Inkom. Head north up Rapid Creek Road and you'll find Webb Canyon. Go a bit further and you'll find Sawmill Canyon. I'd go up McNabb Rd off Rapid Creek for most of my mule deer hunting there in Sawmill.

Just before you get to McNabb Rd, is Hagler Rd. At the end of Hagler there's a house that holds many fond memories. It was owned by a couple, and perhaps still owned by the widow, a just a bit older than my wife and I. Greatest people we've ever known. Just north of McNabb Rd, Buckskin Rd comes in. If you take Buckskin at that point, it'll take you back into Pocatello.

If you've not yet discovered fly fishing for trout in that part of the state, you've got to give that a go. Waterfowl hunting on the Ft. Hall Indian Reservation is also very good.

    Welcome Nick,

I will look forward to your posts.
Likewise, I am interested in a tusk less or management elephant (this will be my 5th trip to Africa).
But, I'm currently recovering from knee surgery.
So, I might have to quit that plan and look for the right deal with hippo on land.

Idaho is one of the Free States.
    I love it there.
My last living uncle (age 93 now) is at Boise.
I have hunted middle fork of The Salmon on horseback.
What a great state you live in.

    Cheers,
    Velo Dog (Paul).
