Im confused about South Africa's requirements for DG hunts. I know 375H&H is the minimum, Ive also been told 375 Ruger is OK and 376 Steyr is OK as well and that 9.3x74R is NOT permitted. What confuses me even more than not allowing 9.3x74R is that 405Win IS allowed. Im not a ballistics guru, so if Im missing something I apologize; but could you please explain (using small words :)...).

ALSO can somebody help with Black Powder (cartridges and muzzleloaders). Can I use 45-70 or 45-120? What about muzzleloaders? Im looking at a .72 caliber or possibly a 8 or 4 bore?

Thanks

So is it all about Joules?

What about muzzleloaders?

Joules is the specification in Namibia. It was used for reference in the above noted thread.

Minimum Equipment Requirements for Rifle Hunting in South Africa
- Most provinces do not have a minimum equipment requirement for rifle hunting and rely on common sense.
- Some provinces require a minimum of .375 caliber for dangerous or big game hunting.
- No provinces require a minimum energy (Eo - muzzle velocity) for calibers used.
