i'm looking to take a safari (my first) in the future and was looking for some recomendations for the area or outfit that has the best Kudu hunting. This is the one animal I want to concentrate on and I would like to hunt where I have a chance at a true giant. I also want to shoot other animals but will take them as the opportunity arises.
    thanks
    Moose

That I know for sure; there are 60 inchers taken in Namibia, RSA, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.

Rowland Ward trophies are taken across the board as well.

None of this class of animal grows on trees. Many people hunt many trips and do not get them.

Good luck in your search. Read some of the other threads on the subject by using the search function. It is not a new question.

I can hook you up with a mountain hunt for kudu in the Limpopo area where the kudu aren't hunted. Its very rugged terrain and there aren't many roads. However the landowner doesn't need money and he likes his animals and peace. He knows a big kudu is worth money and he charges as follows. If its less than 58" $4500. over 58" $10,000. Im pretty confident you can take a 60" kudu here but you will pay for it. Its alos a very large area and I think its low fenced but I'm not sure on that one. It is a very big area.

Every country (Zim, Botswana, RSA and Namibia) are harvsting some great Kudu trophies each year... Every PH from "his" country will claim to have the "best" Kudu hunting area. But I guess you just have to be at the right place, at the right time to bag that monster 60" Kudu we all want!

I'm from Namibia, so I would give you my best advice....... Namibia will be a good place to start looking:peace:

    Mozambique, Coutada Nine, Mokore Safaris.

Probably one of the best unfenced plainsgame concessions in Africa.

There are some huge kudu on Coutada Nine and the Duckworth's are among the finest people I know.

Welcome to AH Mooseloose! As you can see there out there My advice is to stick with an outfitter you find here on AH you can bet there good and they've been checked out. But unless your one lucky dude you'll have to make several trips to score a monster no matter which of the kudu species your after.

    Again, Welcome to AH
I am also a new member, but got my Kudu about 200m from camp on the second day. taped out at 57 on one side, 56 on the other. Good luck to you but I am sure you will not pass up a mature 55-58 inch kudu on your first trip. The one thing no one has mentioned here is that during my hunt, the Kudu and Impalas were rutting, and made them active and a little stupid. (like most of us as well if reproduction only happened once a year). My hunt was in the Save of Zim last year the second week of May. Check with your PH as to when the rut occurs in the area you hunt and you improve your chances tremendously, especially if your focus is on one main animal.

Again, Good luck and keep us posted

    Moose,

You will find that areas of free range hunting are getting smaller and smaller in Africa as habitat loss and population expansion increase.

Don't be surprised that the cost of shooting a large Kudu will increase considerably the closer you get to civilisation. Pay by the inch is usually the rule for 55" +. There are exceptions but you will have to look hard.

Any number of outfitters will be able to supply you with a good 50-53" Kudu. To find free range Kudu at 60" is getting incredibly hard and you will have to have an enormous amount of luck as well. If you are happy to pay, you will be successful.

I'd suggest you do an introductory Plains Game hunt first with a recommended operator, set realistic goals within your budget and enjoy the experience. It is unique.

HAVE TO CALL BS on this one.

I just looked at some of the folks who post here and also an outfit that hit the TV with one of our local hosts.
    Listed in no particular order.
By no means a review of every outfit in southern Africa, but it certainly reflects my experience.

Flat trophy fees are the NORM.

What would the difference be in a 59 and a 60 Kudu these days???
$2000.00 or more in my view and that is all. I would be equally as happy with a 59 as with a 60

Unfortunately we have to pay what the landowner charge and if he has it on the farm we have to expect the fact that it is his till we shoot it.

Everyone looks at a big Kudu to be over 60 but a 54 55 56 is also big. Most first time hunters take no more than 52 on Safari.

If anyone is looking for a Big Kudu bull I guarantee 55 on the Mountain Concession. I will have the Trail cams up for another week from tomorrow and will post those pictures here.
After all the proof is in the pictures of those that are still alive
