Default Has anyone hunted with Kuvhima Safaris in South Africa?

    Hello everyone,

I am a new member here on Africa Hunting.com. My wife and I are avid archery hunters.
I have been fortunate to shoot many animals (approx 200) in North America over the past 35 years. My wife just started hunting 2 years ago and has put three animals on the ground so far. I have always dreamed of hunting Africa and it looks like my dream is going to come true. Last weekend we attended a local SCI banquet where we met Kuvhima Safaris. After talking with several local hunters that have hunted with them in past years we took the plunge and bought our hunt. This will be a plains game hunt. Our package includes the daily rates (9-days) and $3000 worth of trophy fees to be used on any animal that we might get a chance to shoot. I was wondering if anyone has hunted with Kuvhima Safaris?

    Good luck.
Choose your trophies and ensure the sizes.
It appears they implement pricing by the inch on some trophies.

If you trust the folks you were talking to about their hunts have fun on your hunt.
Your "plunge" has been made and just read some planning posts now and get excited.

Have fun and write your report up. Take lots of pictures.

    Good advice.

The pricing by the inch is on buffalo and sable which are not with-in our means.
Our wish list starts with Blue Wildebeest and Gemsbuck. From there we will see
what shows up and allows us a chance for the perfect shot. Open minded but
budget minded as well. I believe the references were sincere and my taxidermist
says he knows numerous people that have hunted with them with good reports.
Getting excited? My neck is swelling and I can't seem to stop the drooling already.

    Two good animals to start.
Do create a list of what you want and what the priority is. The PH will want to know.
Study that price list and get some idea of the size of trophy you are after. You do not have to be the trophy hunter of the century, just have some idea of what a reasonable/respectable/representative animal is for what you are going after.

You have to take a KUDU! You have to! I did not look at the price but....

Make sure there is no Sable standing behind a Black Wildebeest when you squeeze that trigger then.

A wish list is a good idea so the PH can get us to the best area for those species. My wife and I have no expectations. We want to hunt without pressure allowing us to absorb the moment and make a decision to shoot based on the opportunity for perfect shot placement. We are not trophy hunters needing to take a book animal. A decent mature male of a species would be great. If a nice Kudu bull decides to present me with a good shot he will be taking a ride back to the USA. That is good advice to know your target and beyond. It could cost a lot of money. Thanks again.

I think they have rather high prices, but they might be worth it.

I have not hunted with Kuvhima Safaris, but many of my friends have done so. They come highly recommended, top notch company. Great guides, taxidermy care, food, accomodations and communications are very good. Pricey...I think so...but you know what you are buying.

It does look like a nice operation but man, those trophy fees are really high. No matter, what, you are sure to have a great time.

Nice to hear good reports about Kuvhima Safaris.
I couldn't pass up the special 2 hunter super low 9 day all-inclusive daily rate package they offered me. They also included a bonus $3000 trophy fee credit off the final bill. Besides the lodging, meals, drinks my package also includes VAT taxes and all transportation once we get to Johannesburg. I did see the trophy fees are higher than some but when comparing projected total hunt cost which includes our wish list animals I was comfortable it is a fair deal.

Stretch the poor man's Buffalo and the Masked Worrier are good ones to start with they were the ones on my wish list. When I got there my PH ask me what was the two top ones on my list I told him it was the Kudu and the Warthog he laugh and said that figures the most graceful and the most ugly. I got all 9 of the animals on my list in 7 days man did deb and I have fun. Enjoy and you might as well start planning 2016 while your at it.

Kuvhima had a table at my chapter's SCI Fundraiser last week. Many of our local members have hunted with them and Kuvhima comes highly recommended. I think you will have a great hunt.

I also bought this hunt at an auction with our local SCI chapter. Some of the other SCI members had hunted with them and gave me good reports.
Thanks for the nice feedback Ethan.

Hunted with kuvhima twice. I took my wife and 3 old kids the first time. My oldest son, and business partners the second time. I plan to go back, but I'm running out of things to hunt in South Africa. The hunting is great, guides know what they are doing, but it would probably be worth going without bringing home any trophies. Accommodations and cuisine are excellent.

Thanks for the information. You must have a good time to go back twice and a plan to go back again. I am glad to hear you have had so much success in Africa. There has to be at least one animal out of the 50 different species they offer that you fancy. Thanks again for the nice feed-back

    Stretch-

I am actually going to SA with 3 friend this May through Kuvhima. We booked our trip this past winter at the MN SCI banquet after many great recommendations. When are you headed there...we might be sharing a camp?

    Thanks for the response Chris.
I started this thread awhile back when I was first looking into an Africa safari. I met some of Kuvhima's people at an SCI banquet and was most impressed. I also had numerous email contacts with owner Andre' Stewart. I can say without reservation that these people are first class.
I have spoke to Razor Dobbs (razordobbsalive.com) and he also gave a good recommendation. I have no doubt you will live the Africa dream when you visit them in May. I wish you the best of luck. Look forward to your report when you get back.
P.S. I am going to Africa next August with a different outfitter, but again I believe Kuvhima offers a class operation.
