Has anyone hunted with Induna safaris in South Africa?
Welcome to AH.
Can't say I have hunted with them but someone might just be able to help here.
Induna is about 1 hr's drive from me. I have hunted their property a couple of times. If you decide to hunt there, ask him to organise you some tick spray. Almost lost my dog to errr....his problem.
Marius, how was the game at Induna? I would think that ticks may be common throughout most of SA. Do bad infestations come and go? Do tick populations decrease during the winter or are winters mild enough that heavy infestations persist year round? I am in the early stages of research on a place to hunt plains game in SA and have Induna on a very long list of other outfitters that I will be looking into. By the way you are on the list also. Induna has alot of client pictures on their web site and the animals look pretty nice, and client comments posted on their site are very complimentary. As I said I am in the very early stages of researching for a trip to SA and any information would be appreciated. Thank You Jammer
I dont know about Induna. But if concerned about ticks as most of us are to some extent, you can spray your clothes with permethrin before you go and it seems to work pretty well. When I went to Zim last summer it was to a tick area and my PH battled with them but I had no problems having sprayed my clothes beforehand.
Don't know Induna but with regard to ticks the problem is tick-bite fever . I have had it 3 times before . It's no joke .
Most bush veld areas have ticks . Certain times of the year we have more than others . More in summer and less in winter.
Welcome to AH Azuplander! as far as ticks go your going to find them all over Africa, the wife and I hunted the winter months May/June of 2010 and didn't get a tick on us but I seen my PH pull a couple off himself and his dog spud the Jackrussel will crawl through areas that you will not and the PH will lay all over the ground getting the best trophy pics for you that he can just carry some oderless tick spray and spray the cuffs of your pants and you shouldn't have a problem.
When do you plan to have your hunt?
I am going to Marius(KMG Safaris) this year, so then you will get the chance to read a report about his place:)
I don't trust comments clients have posted on any outfitters site btw. It is very easy to delete the bad ones.
I tend to be a tick magnet, so I will be able to check how it is with ticks during June-July in the East Cape:p
Our place is 15km from Induna. Have taken clients there often and he's also brought clients to me. It's a first class place to hunt with first class people as your hosts. You'll get good trophies there. I haven't experienced the tick problem discussed in replies to this post. Our veld is a bit different to their's and we certainly don't have a tick problem, can't imagine they do. Maybe it was just a particularly bad time of the year, the starts and moon aligned and the ticks...emerged.
Hopefully sometime June-August 2013
Victor,
It is certainly not my place to comment on other outfitter's operations. But, you won't find me on that property again. Ticks are also the exact reason why he only has one Gemsbok left..... and the reason I almost lost my dog.
Jammer, he certainly has some very nice animals there. The Impala, Blesbok and Black Wildebeest are suberb.
Will you solely be hunting his property, or other concessions of him as well?
Best Regards
Marius Goosen
Hi Marius
I was wrong to have commented on the post. I don't really want to make a habit of commenting on other outfitters operations. I hunt mainly on my own property. Have hunted and am familiar with on his properties. I believe you when you say you had a problem with ticks. I've just never had the same experience there.
Rgds
Victor
Victor,
I'm not talking about you commenting on other outfitter's operations, my friend. What I meant was, that I dont want it to look as if I am trying to steer Jammer away from Induna and trying to get his business for myself. I will never do that. He asked for advice and if someone had hunted with Induna, and I have been to their property, and only stated what i found
Ticks are definately affected by the cold, but I am not so sure that it gets cold enough in our area to actually affect them. Maybe you can help us out here. I hunted there in May, so we were not there at the coldest time of year.
Would appreciate you input.
Best Regards
Marius
Hello Marius,
Thank you for your input- just a quick note from me, Kelvin Milsom, the owner of Induna Safaris, I think you may have us confused with another outfitter as I have never allowed you to hunt on my property, and I don't believe we have met.
With regards to the tick problem, as Victor mentioned we have ticks the same as every body else in the area, but nothing really to write home about.
I just wanted to clarify that we have not met, and you have not hunted on my property.
I would appreciate your input on this.
Kelvin Milsom
Hi Kelvin,
Welcome to the forum.
Keep well and enjoy the hunt!
Yes, I have only hunted with Kelvin and Donovan a few times I went htg. with them the last four years and plan to go back again this year and nextyear. I loved the area and Induna--the families are super and they treat me like a king. I can only tell you they are the best. The hunting is superp and I have walked all over their two farms. I have not had a tick on me and I lookfor them as I am from a farm in Indiana and I have plenty of deer ticks to content with while I hunt in Ind. Two years ago I went up north of Joburg and had an unpleasant experience as I am still waitin;g for my troophies to come. As Induna I would recommend them with the highest class and expertise I would guarentee you would have the best time of your life and the hunting is even better. tom henley tch45@hotmail.coom
Welcome Simon, Kelvin, Tom.
Look forward to your stories and pictures.
Hi Kelvin,
Are you not situated about 10
or so km's from Kukuyu Lodge on the Alexandria road?
You are correct, we have not met, as the owner was not present, but the guides did a great job of taking care of us.
Hope there is no bad blood, this is a forum and if people ask for help or opinions, then we give it to them.
But I m pretty sure we are talking about the same place. The place I went to, had a tick problem.
After crawling about 100 m in the grass, I had to scrape them off with my knife in the hundreds, as did my client.
My PH hunted there the very next day and experienced the same problem. Our client wanted to shoot a Gemsbok which we ran into, and were instructed
that it was off limits by one of the guides as it was the only one left, after the rest had died from ticks.
If I have somehow mistaken you, I will apologise. But I am pretty sure the spelling is correct.
Let me know if I am incorrect so that I can set the record straight here for all to see.
Beat Regards
Marius Goosen
Kelvin,
I owe you a huge apology. I have just checked my invoices and the property I am speaking of is spelt Nduna as oppose to your Induna.
I hope that you can see that this is an honest mistake, and appreciate the close resemblance in the names.
I hope that you will accept my sincerest apology.
Best Regards
