    .416 Rigby & 9.3x62 suggestions and considerations

Oh yeah - 1 more thing that I found was very important - trim your brass to uniform length. That allows you to put on a light crimp that I found to be important for consistency and smaller groups.

    .416 Rigby & 9.3x62 suggestions and considerations

In my rigby I use 400 gr bullet (old TBBC is my favorite, but the new Hornady DGX seems to work well also), H4831, WW Mag primer, and Hornady or Norma brass. My load chrony's right at 2500 fps, no pressure signs. Works like a champ. For a practice load I shoot Montana Cast 400gr with 5744 at...

    .416 Rigby reloading

I load my 416 and almost everything else on a RCBS Rock Chucker. My dies are RCBS/Lee/Hornady/Redding/Pacific/Texan and some that are too old to have a recognizable brand name. They all work well but RCBS is my favorite based on customer support. Still use an old Lyman #55 powder measure for...

    300 H&H reloading help

I've got 2 of them. Most accurate load is 180 gr Hdy Interbond w/ near max load of H4350. My hunting load is 180 gr Interbond or Nosler Acubond pushed by H4831.

Rifle and load options for mixed bag safari in C.A.R.

I was going to use it on a Warthog but ended up missing him completely. Everything else was too far, over 75 yds, to trust the handgun.

    Rifles you will NEVER sell

Pre 64 Mod 70 in 264 WM (named "Betty") Pre 64 Mod 70 in 300 H&H Pre 64 Mod 70 in 375 H&H (named "Susie") Dad gave me the 264 when I graduated High School A LONG TIME AGO. Barrel finally went south so it now has a new barrel and shoots where I point it. Just shot a Rcky Mtn Bighorn with it a...

    Question about crimping

I crimp pistol rounds, 375 H&H, and 416 Rigby. All other calibers and cartridges don't get a crimp. Couple of things about crimping: 1. Essential that brass length is consistent. Trim it to be sure. I use a Lee case length gauge in my battery powered electric drill. Fast, simple, no set up...

    Hunting Elephant

This is what totally pisses me off. Obamavitch is so fng stupid. Everybody else in the world is hunting Polar Bear, Elephant, Jaguar, Cheetah and on and on but I, being an American citizen, am forced to sit on the sideline. What's smart or proper about that. Somebody needs to slap the USF&WS...

    Hornady Bullets

OK, I'll admit that the Hornady is not a "premuim" (ie., expensive) bullet but I've never found Hornady bullets lacking. My first South African PH preferred the Hornady Interlock to any other bullet. I'll also admit that there have been technical improvements in bullets over the years but...

    Nosler Accubonds in Africa?

You will like them just fine. Can't tell the number of animals I've taken with them, both here in US and overseas. They WORK.

Your 3 favorite hunting cartridges of all time

In order of preference: 264 WM - pre 64 Mod 70 named "Betty". Betty is my mother and she always kept me fed. 375 H&H - pre 64 Mod 70 named "Susie". Susie is my wife. She took over from Betty many years ago. 300 WM - Mod 70 Classic Supergrade. No name on this one but it...

    Secondary PG Caliber

You will never regret choosing a 264 Win. I've shot one for most of the past 40 years and have never had it let me down. My old Winchester has taken elk, mule deer, kudu, numerous duikers, vaal rhebok, aoudad, antelope, and lots more. I won't argue with the folks that recommended the 300 WM...

    Alternative to CBP form# 4457

I've been asked for one for my firearms every time I returned to the US. Instead of driving all over creation to get a CBP signature & stamp, I take the form to my local post office and ask the agent there to stamp it with a dated postmark. This has only been questioned once, at LAX. As soon...

    Cast Bullets??

I use cast bullets in my 416 Rigby for a practice load. I buy them from Montana Cast bullets. The cast loads make excellent, mild practice fodder using Accurate 5744.

Photos from CAR with Central African Wildlife Adventures

Glad to see my Waynes Duiker photo made the mix. They were great to hunt with and I'd recommend them to anyone that wants "real" hunting. Can't wait to go back for a Yellow Back and Eland/Bongo.

    What about the 300 H&H ???

Ol Sarge is correct, you can shoot everything with the 375. But, since you started out asking about the 300 H&H, why not go with a 300 & 375. Now you're really showing class cartridge selection.

    Safari truck gun care?

I do not use a soft gun case. That is something else I don't have to mess with when I'm in a hurry to get off the truck for that shot that is there now and gone while I'm trying to get my rifle out of the case. James' advice was sound otherwise. I take a silicone impregnated gun cloth and an...

ZIMBABWE: Has Anyone Experienced A Hunt With Wayne Jardine In Zimbabwe

I hunted w/ Rebecca several years ago. This was less than 30 days after the unfortunate death of Scott Stein and I don't believe that Wayne was affiliated at that time. Since then, I believe Wayne and Rebecca have linked themselves but Wayne did not have a good reputation back then and I've...

Your 3 favorite hunting cartridges of all time

I have to vote based upon the rifles I use/shoot the most; 22lr, 300 WM, & 375 H&H. But my favorite is my 264 WM, fondly named "betty", after my mother, who always kept me fed.

    The Small Five

I have common duiker, steenbok, klipspringer (one of my most treasured memories), and Cape Grysbok. This spring I hope to catch up to a red duiker, oribi, blue duiker, and yellow back duiker in CAR. I really enjoy the "Tiny" ones. Great hunts in some beautiful country.

Cape Buffalo - What does it taste like?

One of the finest meals I ever ate - Buffalo liver served in brown gravy over rice. We got back to the camp at 10pm after an all day (successful) track, stalk. PH woke the cook and that's what he stirred up. Served at about 11pm with a cold Zambezi and some toasted bread.

    6.5mm for plains game hunting?

I took my 264 last year. It worked just fine on everything I tried with it. I'm so confident in it that I wouldn't hesitate on an eland with it. Shot placement is everything and I have full faith and confidence in this calibre's terminal ballistics.

Rifle and load options for mixed bag safari in C.A.R.

I'm booked to CAR for Feb 2011. I'll be taking my 375 H&H, 460 S&W w/scope, and a shotgun. Plan to hunt all the duikers, buffalo, roan, and other stuff that may present. I really hope to get within handgun range on the buffalo and roan.

    Bullets Choices for 375 H&H Multi-Species Hunt

TBBC is the bullet for buffalo [period] end of discussion. I think it will work on leopard also but you might consider the softer Sierra 300gr. I shoot the Hornady solid with good results so far. Never recovered a TBBC or Hornady solid on buffalo broadside shots. Never fired very many solids...

    Barrel Break-in - .416 Rigby

I shoot the same rifle. I made the following modifications and now I love the rifle; pachmyr recoil pad, added crossbolt, glass bed stock. Instld Leupold 1.5x5 scope on Weaver bases w/ Burris Zee rings. My 1st stock cracked after only 5 rounds - Ruger replaced it, no charge. I don't crimp...

Anyone have a pet .416 Rigby load?

I use Hogdons 4831 in my Ruger Mod 77. Ld is; WW Lg Rfl Mag primer, 104-105 gr H4831, 400 gr TBBC & Hornady 400gr Soft/Solid. I guess an X boolit wud werk but the Bear Claw is my bullet of choice. 2d choice would be A-Frame or Partition bullets. Last choice is X boolit.

    7X64 Brenneke

I use the same recipe in mine, a modern Ruger M77, as the books list for 280. Shoots great and shows a little class with the long tapered case. Of course, I'm a sucker for 375, 300 H&H & 6.5x55, they share a little taper in the case.

    Handgun Hunting in Africa?

I just returned from E. & N. Cape Provinces where I hunted with my new 460 S&W. No problems whatsoever. I used Air 2000's wonderful service to steer me through the Bureaucratic stuff and will use them again.
