Okay gentlemen ladies, I have finally reached the conclusion that my dangerous game hunting days are over. As a result, my favorite dangerous game rifle is now sitting idle in my gun safe and I see no advantage to leaving it there for the rest of my days. As a result I have a weatherproof Ruger...
Mine is definately the leopard I took in 2013 with Touch Africa Safaris and Jonathan Collett. It was my third attempt as I severely broke a shoulder on my first try that finally resulted in a complete shoulder replacement after three years and 3 surgeries. I wanted that leopard enough to stick...
Attached is a link to a new solution I recently stumbled across. Not bouncy and held close to body. Completely encloses binocs and protects lenses. I am eagerly anticipating it's arrival.

I have had one of the 2.5-10x32 NXS for about three years and I love it. I got mine with a velocity 600 reticle mounted on a 300 win mag. The scope is bulletproof and with this reticle I have no doubt of my ability to hit my target out to 600 yards. I also made good use of the lighted reticle on...
Have you tried the shorter barrels? I had not. For 40 years a favorite nothing but magnum rifles and flinched at anything less than 26 inch barrel. Then I got my 375 Ruger Alaska. I chose it primarily for the synthetic stock and more weatherproof finish which I have come to prefer. It has become...
I have had a 375 Ruger four years now. I got the Alaskan model with the 20 inch barrel. I have to say that I love this gun. It has as accompanied me to both Alaska and Zimbabwe and has performed flawlessly. I love the standard length action and the Ruger rifle. I am not concerned about the...
I meant to say female and not email in the previous post. I'm having difficulties with arthritis in my fingers and so I'm using dragonfly naturally speaking to dictate most of my written words now and it appears to have a learning process. The software needs to educate itself as to how I speak...
I took the new 30 caliber Berger 185 gr hunting VLD's to Zimbabwe with me in April. I have been using the Bergers exclusively for five or six years but had mixed results in Africa. They worked adequately on Impala and I did manage to shoot a leopard with my 300 win mag. I shot the leopard...
I had never given this kind of insurance a thought until 4 years ago. I don't know why but I decided to try it in 2009 for a trip to Zimbabwe. Felt at 60 I was getting old I guess. Turns out I was very correct. I did sustain a serious injury on that trip and needed Global Rescue to advise...
I just returned from my third attempt at bagging a Leopard. This was a second try with Jonathan Collett at Touch Africa Safaris right next to the Bubeye Conservancy in southern Zimbabwe. On my first try with Jonathan 2 years ago we had nine cats on baits but they were all females. My first...
For sale a brand new TR20-1G. Has been mounted on rifle but never shot. I have eliminated the rifle and no longer need the scope. Great scope. I have one on another rifle and love it. $500 plus shipping.
Those goats have made a fool of me three different times on this issue. On those occasions I have had a new hunter afield with me and while watching goats in close proximity to fence explained how they will go over and not under. On all three occasions I no sooner than got the words out of my...
Another vote for trigger sticks. I have been using for three years. The short bipod is a little high for me sitting so I just put the legs forward a bit and use it at an angle. These sticks sitting with an elbow on each knee are almost as good as prone - probably as good for us older dudes...
I have had no problem getting 2600 fps with 300 grain bullets in the 375 Ruger with my hand loads. That's at least equal to the H&H and more than a lot of factory loads.
In 2009 I went to Zim to hunt leopard. On the third morning I took a nasty fall while climbing a gnomo and caught my left arm in the fork of a small tree. My body kept going and I snapped the ball off of the upper bone in my arm and it shattered into 3 pieces. I didn't realize that at the...
The 375 is not generally intended as a long range gun. I have the Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan in 375 Ruger. I have always had rifles with 24-28 inch barrels and shoot a lot at long range. I really fell in love with the Alaskan. It is very accurate (sub MOA) and I am using loads with 300 gr bullets...
Copperhead, I used the 375 Ruger on a buff in May of this year with the DGX bullet. Got the heart and lungs and he was done with one shot but we could not find the bullet post mortem. I didn't feel good about that. I have been experimenting and will use the 375 Ruger on Brown Bear in May but...
I agree with Sestoppelman. However over many years I have come to prefer the sitting position over all others if at all possible. I use a pair of the Primos short Trigger Sticks and always get my right elbow (I shoot right handed) on my right knee. Almost as good as the bench. Shot a Cape...
I had a bad experience with Air Zim in May. Following our hunt south of Bulawayo we planned to fly to Vic Falls for a couple of days. We would then fly SAA from Vic Falls to J'burg and home. When we got to the airport for our flight we were advised that it was cancelled. Mechanical problems...
My wife and I spent three days there in May. One on the way over and 2 on the way back. Food was excellent and rooms were very nice. Even had heat and air conditioning which we have found missing in some of the other establishments. Staff was very friendly and attentive. I will stay there...
Sestoppelman, I am sorry to hear of the outcome of your hunt. I hunted Mjinwe with Jon for 14 days in May with Leopard the big goal. While I did not score on a Leopard I had an excellent hunt. I did collect a management Buff, Zebra, Wildebeest and Waterbuck. I saw several excellent Waterbuck...
I used the 300 grain DGX in a 375 Ruger on a buff last month. One shot was all I needed. Bullet didn't exit but it totally destroyed the heart and the lungs.
I got a very good buy on a Ruger Alaskan in 375 Ruger this summer. I sent it to Hill Country Rifles for bedding and accurizing before I even shot it. Asked them to be sure it fed perfectly. Gun shoots 3/4" groups and feeds very smoothly. RL 17 is giving 2700 fps. Recoil is noticeable but...
I have a pair of PH's and High Country Hunters. Had the latter resoled this year and the PH's refurbished. I have had them both for over 15 years. They are a lifetime boot with care and periodic maintenance. Nothing is more comfortable on my feet.
This is a 1-4x24 30mm scope with the amber triangle. Only six months old and 99%. Only has slight ring marks. I have problems with my eyes and the triangle doesn't work for me. I have other Trijicon scopes and they are great. Cost me $780 in March. Will sell for $625 or best offer.
I was unfortunate in Zim last year and fell while leopard hunting severely crushing a shoulder. I used Global Rescue to arrange flights to get me home for surgery in an emergency. I first tried changing my flights with no success. Global Rescue ended up buying one way tickets on another...
I recently purchased a Ruger Hawkeye Alaskan in 375 Ruger. It is out to Hill Country Rifles to get a makeover before I begin shooting it. I got a great price on the rifle new and with the accurizing job will still have just about retail into the rifle. I have heard some good reports on the...
I took my son to Zimbabwe in 1995 when he was 16. He has since succumbed to cancer and I can tell you that the 20 days we spent together in 1995 were the best 20 days of my life.
How do you lock the SKB case to get around TSA? I have an SKB crossbow case and the only way to lock it is with their keys. No provision for a TSA lock.
