Exporting trophy room to Canada from USA-advice needed

Relocating my trophies to Canada. So far so good except now I need to move my lion and black bears…..CITES listed animals. I understand I need an export permit from USFWS as well as an import permit from Canadian Wildlife Service. Has anyone dealt with this? Can you recommend a broker etc. that...

    Woodleigh - what's too fast?

Thanks! Always looking for more data! Im actually getting 2920 fps out of the Barnes TTSX 210 with norma brass federal 210 gm primers and a slightly over book max charge of H414. I cant remember the charge weight and im away from my logs. I load the 185 TTSX to right at 3000 fps with 58.5 gr of...

    Woodleigh - what's too fast?

Ok that explains things! I dont own a Whelan, several friends do hence my knowledge of what they are getting. Im a huge 338-06 fan however so we are playing in the same space. Some of the recent powder intros - CFE223 as an example have absolutely upped the velocities attainable.

Winchester Safari Express to 404 conversion

I did not go ahead with the conversion as I still havent located a donor lefty model 70. Lost the auction on the one way back and havent found one since. And I just couldnt stand the idea of converting my 375 H&H. Still on my radar but in the interim I used the funds to upgrade my binos etc to...

Show your Win Mod 70 Safari or Super Express

+1 in 375 H&H. Left Hand. One of the last of the New Haven rifles. Shoots like a dream and beautiful wood.

How effective is the 25-06 with either of these bullets?

I've killed 4 caribou with 117 SSTs out of my 257 Weath Mag. All were DRT one shot kills. 3 of the 4 bullets exited on a broadside shot at various ranges. One I shot right on the shoulder. That bullet just absolutely totaled both shoulders and we could find nothing but jacket material. I've shot...

Reflex Sights on Dangerous Game Rifles

Literally have hundreds of heavy rounds through my Benelli SBE with the Burris Fast Fire 3 on it. Zero complaints, holds zero well, very compact.

    Leupold VX-R for 375 H&H

I have one of the last New Haven model 70 375's out of their custom shop and I put the fire dot duplex VX-R on it for buffalo and lion. Extremely happy with it. Rugged scope with very decent glass for the money. Slowly converting every rifle Imown to VX-Rs and VX-6.

    Best Binocular Case/Harness?

I'm a big fan of the Badlands binocular harness. The magnetic closure works great and the straps, etc have held up well under hard use.

    375 H&H

In 2013 I used Federal's Safari Cape shok 375 H&H 300 grain Barnes TSX for Buffalo and an unexpected Lion hunt that developed mid safari. Buffalo at 55 yards and lion at 45. All I can say is I fired twice. Two of the big 5 down. Dead right there. Enough said.

    .257 Ackley Improved

Bullthrower has it right. Starting loads of 4895 with bullet out against lands will fire form the cases. Strongly suggest you get a Hornady case comparator to assist in setting up your sizing die. This will keep you from excessively setting the case shoulder back each time you resize and will...

Thanks for the information. I am definiteLy going this route. Should be a beautiful rifle when I'm done.

Winchester Safari Express to 404 conversion

Agreed on the late New Havens. Mine is a 375 out of the custom shop and is very well built, shoots sub minute with nearly everything and is a pleasure to shoot. I won't pass this one up as they aren't easy to find. Thanks everyone for the comments and assistance. I need to go buy that rifle.

Winchester Safari Express to 404 conversion

I know this forum has been around the block on this multiple times but Im going to ask (re-ask?) two questions: I have an opportunity to pick up a mint Left handed safari express in 375 H&H, actually nicer wood than the one I currently have. Great price point. I want to convert to a 404 jeff...

    Making My Way To BARNES

I have been working my way almost completely over to TTSXs over the last few years. Very little drama with these bullets. I've yet to see them fail on anything I hit properly, close or long range from coyotes to buffalo. .223 to 375 H&H. 270 Win was my first rifle caliber and I've owned...

    Monometal bullets for Deer

I load the TTSX 100 Grain in both my 257 Roy and my brothers 25-06. Outstanding results on deer, pronghorn and caribou. I would have no reservations whatsoever. Never used the eTip or GMX as I didnt see the need with the performance of the TTSX and TSX previously experienced. As stated...

Barnes, Oh Barnes . . . What's to Become of You?

Keep in mind that Barnes was purchased by Remington awhile back. I love all things Barnes as it relates to hunting performance with my reloads and their awesome bullets. But, I have to suspect that the VOR TX ammo is actually loaded by Remington with Barnes Bullets. In fact I think the...

    Practice without punishment

Take a look at Hodgdon Powders web site. In addition to the trail boss loads you are talking about here, they also have a reduced load formula for H4895 that works with virtually any center fire caliber. If you can't find it I will dig out my pdf and post. I loaded a couple hundred practice...

    Minimum caliber for Zebra?

Take the 6.5 based on your situation. Make it a hunt, sneak into reasonable range, don't force the issue and shoot the chevron. You wont have issues with a controlled expansion bullet. I killed mine at 140 yds with a 257 weatherby and 115 nosler partition. My wife used a 270 and 130 Interbonds...

    WD-40 on Ruger

One other warning - WD 40 and also G96 will absolutely freeze and lock up or at least slow down your firing pin in cold weather. Found that out the hard way many years ago. watch where you are putting it. I also like G96 but lately have started using clensoil.

    Bullets do some weird things!

What doesn't make sense here is the 40cm of penetration. If the bullet failed to expand....and from your photo it looks like it started but didn't finish, then you would expect it to pencil on through like a solid. Especially with that caliber, weight and muzzle velocity. The only conclusion I...

SOUTH AFRICA: Elephant Hunt With Paw Print Safaris 2015

I'm concerned about this too....But! 22 years ago I had my first, thus highly coveted rifle stolen in a home break in. A few months ago I got a letter from the Sheriffs office from the city next door and damn, they had my rifle! Recovered in a pawn shop takedown. Still in great shape and with...

Death of Zimbabwe’s Best-Loved Lion Ignites Debate on Sport Hunting

I have absolutely no doubt that Mr. Jackson did his best. And nobody could ever doubt his efforts past or present. I wish I had his resume. But...I just called it the way I saw it. He needed to take the callers head on and with his intelligence present more food for thought, and a little more...

Death of Zimbabwe’s Best-Loved Lion Ignites Debate on Sport Hunting

John Jackson III was on C-Span this am discussing the issues surrounding big game hunting and wildlife conservation. A couple of real nut cases dialed in and took a shot at him. In general I was disappointed with his effort. Reminded of me of senile old Robert Byrd defending his KKK membership...

Berger VLD Hunters with 338 Win Mag

Try seating deeper if you have any of the Barnes left. Typically works for me across all of the calibers I load them in. As for the Bergers. Super accurate and flat to be sure. Nuclear bombs on game. I was tired of shot up meat from my 270 win. Yes they kill, yes you will lose a lot of meat. I...

    .375 H&H Do Critics Exist?

I think I'd look hard at the Wincester model 70 Safari Express over the CZ. Price point is the same and I really liked the looks of the build quality on the new SC built model 70s I saw at SCI. Has a more classic appearance in my opinion only.

    .375 H&H Do Critics Exist?

Two of the big 5 (buffalo and male lion) with two bullets. The buffalo actually came off his feet at the impact centered on the shoulder. Im told that doesnt happen too often with 375 but it did this time. Yes he got back up but was blowing blood like a firehose out his nostrils and was now...

    Left Handed shooters club!

I have a left hand 338-06 that Im very partial to. Its out being camo film dipped right now. Based on the elk, bears, and pigs Ive...

    Emirates airlines opinion?

Great airline. Flew them a lot when I was living in Asia and travelling into Dubai. I would say that Emirates and Singapore are the best two out there. Never flown with firearms with them however. For me, you cant beat Delta's Atlanta to Joburg direct route. Way less chance of things not making...
