enysse, can you tell me if the tang safety button on your Ruger M77 rattles around when the button is not engaged (FIRE position) but not if the button is engaged (SAFE position)?

I have an old (1978) tang safety M77 in .458 Win. Mag, I tried to disassemble the rifle but the forend screw is stuck, I tried turning it and it only turns a short ways and stops, any advice how to remove this screw? Also, where I can find the instruction manual (PDF) for this particular rifle?

The barrel is 24", the last two inch of the barrel is muzzle brake which doesn't have rifling, so with muzzle brake included the barrel would measure 26", the velocity loss with a factory-ported (integral, not threaded brake) barrel is the same as with threaded brake?

A Weatherby MKV with a 24" barrel (26" but with a 2" brake) is long enough for the big 460?

When you look down the barrel of a 458 Lott the little step (little shoulder) is very visible? The pic below is an example of the little step in a 45-70 chamber because I cannot find a diagram of a 458 Lott chamber.

The 458 Lott seems a better choice, more versatile, no compression.

I just checked Wikipedia and they mention muzzle velocity of 2,192 ft/s with 500 gr bullets and 2,468 ft/s with 400 gr bullets from a 26" barrel!!! I know Wikipedia is not the best source but I'm curious what velocities you can reach from a 26" barrel?

I'm interested in a used CZ 550 in 416 Rigby, but CZ use a 1:16.5 twist, practically all the load data I checked use barrels with 1:14 twist and most of the rifles from other companies use 1:14 too, nothing wrong with a 1:16.5 twist? What about 400 gr and heavier bullets?

I'm currently looking at buying a Remington 700 XCR II in 375 H&H. I have read some reviews. Just wondering if anyone has one out there and what do they think of it.

My local gun store have one in stock for $1995.
