This is a video I filmed and put together for Gary Herbert's Hunting New Zealand. If you are coming to New Zealand and want our hunting safari filmed get in touch with me Mark Hamilton of Mountain Edge Video Productions.
No worries Bruce they are shooting feral goats in the footage. Goats and Tahr are controlled fairly heavily as they thrive in our environment. Chamois are very rarely culled, only sometimes in areas where hunters accessibility is very limited due to the terrain.
Culling is used to reduce population numbers, the helicopters don't get them all. Using the helicopter it can be done selectively leaving male animals to mature into trophies, the alternative is poison and everyone looses. You are paying for an outfitter/guides experience and knowledge to secure...
Hi Bruce, the helicopter in this footage is culling the goats not trophy hunting. We have large numbers of feral animal populations which are controlled in this way. I would much rather see it done this way over our governments preferred method of poisoning with 1080 which is a slow and painful...

In February my good friend Nick and I drove the four hours from my home on the East coast, through the mountains to the West coast for a Chamois hunt, the goal was to get him his first buck. Our previous trip had been unsuccessful so this time we were determined to locate a good one. We had a...
We flew to Chatham island in passenger/cago plane then took a small fixed wing aircraft to pitt island. The flight to Pitt was an experience, really windy and landed on a bumpy grass strip running up a hill into the sun turned out the pilot really wanted to get back to the island to see his...
Here is a ram I took on a trip to Pitt island in 2007. Pitt Island is part of the Chatham islands which is about 800km east of New Zealand remote islands awesome experience!!
We already had an animal so we left her that day. I also work as a taxidermist and the oldest chamois doe I have seen was 17 years!! i have seen a few around the 14 year age to.
We often use jet boats here in New Zealand to access hunting areas which are well off the beaten track, it also adds another exciting element to the hunt! This particular area in this video is home to Red Deer and a few feral hogs, trophy quality is low so we mainly hunt here for meat, during...
