    Another one!

The standard (non Monte-Carlo) were fine - not brilliant for scoped use, but for open sights they were marvellous. Thank you - it appears that CZ/Brno used different stocks in different markets.

    Another one!

The ones I saw marketed as DeLuxe were more Weatherby-like - with a contrasting foreend and a Monte-Carlo stock. That was whhen I was in RSA. I have only seen the "Bavarian" stock with the Schnabel on the CZs.

    Another one!

Forgive me for sounding like I'm ignorant, but those stocks don't look like any Brno ZKK stocks I've ever seen. They look more like the CZ stocks that have been retrofitted. probably not, since the 458L also has one with the Bavarian style buttstock. Is that normal in Europe?

CZ 550 9.3x62 second recoil lug?

I can't really talk about the CZ rifles, but I can talk about the elder brother - the Brno ZKK60x series. I have 4 of these rebarelled to various calibres - 2 x 601s converted to 7x57 and .260 Rem, a .375H&H in 602 and a 600 in 9.3x62. ALL of these have been stocked without the front lug. The...

    Starting Out

Al, I'm going to throw a hand-grenade into the henhouse here and tell you what my family used to do. Back in RSA in the 70's we were having difficulty getting cases, and my Dad wanted to reload his .30-06, so every time we went to the range, we would scour the firing line for cases. Eventually...

SOUTH AFRICA: 1st Africa Hunt With Molopo Kalahari Safaris In NW Province South Africa

Hi Brian - some wonderful animals there - and old Africa hands reckon the Wildebeest was born sick, but gets better and livelier ever shot it takes .... What was the nearest town, BTW? I lived in NW for many years and wonder where you guys were. Thanks

    .458 Winchester vs. .458 Lott

If you happened to be imagining that story, then you were somehow broadcasting it to me as well. :) What the people are talking about here with the 458WM and the Weatherbies is different. Freebore in the 458WM means that the bullet leaves the case and still has to traverse +- 1 cm of chamber...

SOUTH AFRICA: Hunting Review LJ Hunting Safaris

I am the crippled cousin, and I was there. Adrian is spot on with his review. I still dream of that Eland steak dinner Adrian spoke about. One of my top 10 and I turned 60 this year. Apart from endorsing them as enthusiastically as Adrian has, I have to say the Mitsubishi Triton bakkie is a...

How Did You Get Started Become Interested In Reloading

It's the fault of Western Civilization - you guys hated us guys in South Africa. :cautious: It was really that sanctions were biting, and very little ammo was getting through, and that ammo was really, really expensive. If you had a .308, you could probably "score" military ammo, but it was...

Moderate .375 H&H loads your experience?

I would stick to 3031 or Varget, since I hear that the 4350s don't really like reduced loads much. Whether what I hear is true,I cannot say, but ....

    .318 Westley Richards

Just a teensy, weensy little point ..... (actually, digression is a better word) On another forum of which I am a member, the (then) Rigby management used to post interesting pages from their records. This one posting showed a page from their order book for a 275 Rigby for someone called...

Welcoming A New Addition To The BRNO Family!

Agree with everything you say except about the CZ finish rusting - I haven't noticed that, but I live in Aus and I make sure everything is wiped down with G96 before being stored. My commiserations on those terrible store owners forcing you to buy a 602 - what a pity you didn't sue them...

Welcoming A New Addition To The BRNO Family!

Very nice. One of the better stocks, too. It also has that very ugly (in my eyes) set trigger - to you it may be beautiful, but ..... I have 2 Brnos with the same type of stock - neither is still in the original calibre. ZKK600 in 9.3x62 and ZKK601 in 260 Rem. I also have one or two more...

Can you guys help me locate a BRNO 602 stock for .375HH?

My ZKK602 lives in a 550 stock - http://www.armtec.co.za/ can make him one. Not cheaply, but they are really strong.

    Parker Hale or Brno

Well see the post I put up in the Reloading forum about the .270 that stopped working so very well after the second .308 round was fired through it. The action held and the shooter was uninjured but indignant - that was a South African Musgrave built on a Santa Barbara action. So I'd say they...

My Knife For Africa (I didn't make it like the heroes on AH usually do)

Just one thing to keep in mind - if you splash out big bucks for a custom knife or even just buy a decent knife do NOT ever lend it to a skinner or tracker unless you like the looks of a knife sharpened on a brick / rock / whatever he has to hand.

Most embarrassing or potentially disastrous reloading mistakes that you have made

Couple of stories here. Back in RSA, my friend Bob, the Irishman (he was like an Irishman out of the jokes), built a 6.5x55 on a Mauser 98 action to go with his .300 Weatherby, in some sort of Weatherby action (Mk V was it?). Anyway he shot the 6.5 a lot - he loved that rifle, and allowed the...

    Pulling crimped bullets?

I've placed the cartridges in the shellholder, pushed them up through the press and gripped the bullet on the top of the press with sidecutters and pulled them. Quick and easy and the bullets can usually be used again (at least for plinking).

    8x68S owner's opinions

South African powders USED to go approximately like this S335 - IMR3031 S365 - IMR4350 S385 - IMR4831 The comparisons are very approximate - don't use them for loading. Just to give you an idea. Disclaimer - I haven't loaded SA powders since 2002.

Hi again, and thanks for the rousing welcome. I feel at home already - now to find a chair and sit back and put my feet up on the coffee table :) For Shootist43's benefit, I better explain that a SAFFA is Australian slang for a South African - when they're not calling us Japies (pronounced...

    CZ 550 Magnum - AHR(American Hunting Rifles)
