GC, this was the first blank Chris showed when sitting in his office. Unfortunately, I didn’t take any pics of it. I obviously jumped on it right after he sprayed water on it to show the grain.

Finally, my Heym 89b, 577 NE

Actually, mine is pretty basic. The cheapest option for engraving, and case color are really all the adders. Chris probably felt sorry for me and threw in the nice wood upgrade for free.

Finally, my Heym 89b, 577 NE

The 88 I shot in Texas was very similar to mine, case color and all. Honestly, I couldn’t tell much difference between the two, but again that was three years ago. I think it’s just the aesthetics of the 88 vs 89 action.

You are spot on…not much available out there. I usually scour gunbroker and jump on any components that are reasonably priced. Accurate Molds has several designs that should work for a low cost option.

I’m sure ordering one today would be more, but back in 2021 it was $30k. Chris basically gave me the wood upgrade for free. The .577 adds approximately $3k to $4k to the price above a standard chambering.

I ordered this rifle in April of 2021, so that is 2 years, 11 months. The ammunition shortage probably didn’t speed things up any.

Thank you! The funny thing is that I ordered this rifle before that kid (my youngest of three boys) was even a sparkle in our eyes. Nothing in the books yet, but I plan on taking it to Africa after dangerous game at least a few times before I die.

Before I hit the post button, I asked myself, how will I respond to the inevitable “crew-served” weapon comment by Red Leg. My response is that I don’t know why, other than it makes me smile. That being said, I’ve decided the companion rifle to this one will be a Red-Leg approved bolt action...

Finally, my Heym 89b, 577 NE

Absolutely…or similar to getting into the ring with a heavyweight boxer. When I visited Chris (Heym USA) in Dallas, I shot a few doubles, an 88 and 89 in .577 and .470, respectively. Chris had me shoot a tree stump partially submerged in a river with the .577, so much fun seeing water shoot up...

Just shy of 3 years after placing my order, I am finally in possession of my dream rifle, a Heym 89b, chambered in the classic and historic .577 NE. Not a whole lot of upgrades on this one, just color case hardening with simple but tasteful gold inlays and border engraving. The pictures don't do...

    375 H&H Reduced loads with Accurate 5744

I’ve had good luck with AA5744 in many calibers for reduced loads…but the one thing I don’t like about it is the un-burnt powder kernels left over from low pressure loads. The ones in the barrel are fine, but if they get into your chamber, you can dent brass on subsequent firings. This only...

    CHEDDITE 209 PRIMER any good?

Matt, I’m guessing your cases are solid brass, and doubt you would get the stretching that you see on shotshells…they just have a thin wall of steel or brass where it is punched through. That being the case, don’t ruin your $30 a piece brass on my theories!

Same here, I’m about half way through my first brick, used them in 12 gauge target loads and 10 gauge waterfowl loads, wide range of temps. Never had any issues, even when using large quantities of Blue Dot. As mentioned above, they are larger than US made brands, and once they are used, the...

    Help with O/U Double Rifle

Haha, I just bought a box of 450/400, ouch! I’ll post some pics next weekend, I know, didn’t happen unless there’s pics! 2290 average Interesting…I’ve tried H4350 and R15 so far. Going to try IMR3031, and maybe some N550. I may pick up some 760, if it doesn’t work, I can use it in my 30-06!

    Help with O/U Double Rifle

    Help with O/U Double Rifle

Guys, I own a Heym 26b, chambered in 8x57 rimmed. I managed to purchase a few boxes of the german "Geco" ammo that the rifle was regulated with, and it shoots great with perfect regulation (lower barrel impact about 1" directly below upper barrel at 100 yds). I'm trying to find a good handload...

I am at 30 months and counting for mine. I at least know Heym has started production, Chris sent me photos of my rifle in the white last November. 8 bore rifle load data wanted

Yes, we did meet…you were kind enough to let me shoot your Heym 89b. It was 2018 I think, when you had to use bolt cutters to get into your gun case! I recommend sticking with high quality (Swiss) black powder when you test fire. In my experience with an H&H .450 BPE, the cheaper powders never...

8 bore rifle load data wanted

Nice, I’m envious! The 8 bore was my favorite rifle to shoot at the AK double shoot several years ago. I checked my book from Cal, and it looks like you already have all the loads it contains. Have you thought of using real black powder? Lot’s more kick but you’ll likely find a load it likes!

Some good info, thanks for posting! I was told that 7x57r cases couldn’t be used (slightly different dimensions), so I tried 8x57irs with some neck thickness issues. Need help with a drilling!

Interesting...S&B is exactly what I am using...I know they don't produce the best brass, but I was hoping for more than 2 reloads. In a perfect world, I would use some RWS brass and call it a day, but apparently you can't get RWS-anything in the states at this time.

All, I finally got chance to head back to the range, armed with many tips and tricks provided in this thread.
