Hippo on land Vs. Buffalo for first Dangerous Game hunt?

Trophy fees here are very similar. Although you may be lucky to add on a hippo to a pg hunt but you will have to pay buff hunt day rates for a buff if you want to add it on to a pg hunt. Each operator will have their own say as to how it will work out.

Hippo on land Vs. Buffalo for first Dangerous Game hunt?

My advice would be to do the buffalo first. Depending on where you’re hunting and what kind of area. If you’re hunting a free range open concession or Unfenced ranch, you’d likely be looking over a bunch of buffalo and getting the opportunity to see them, watch them and get a good stalk on...

    Zambia Hunting Concession Closure Update?

Some of the areas that were contested in court have been awarded. Some are still unallocated. This is info from another forum that was posted by Thor. I hope he doesn’t mind me sharing it. GMAs in Zambia that are open to hunting and will have quota in 2024 • Bilibili Mulobezi • Chisomo •...

How do you sharpen your knife?

I use a folding diamond coated double sided sharpener. It lives in my hunting cruiser and has sharpened everything from my carry knife, kitchen knives, my leatherman and even my home made panga during road clearing last year. Made by Cold Steel. Probably under $20 if I remember rightly...

    Redneck 40 caliber?

I have used Stewart’s bullets. I had 300gr at around 2,100 out of my 333jeff. They were soft, which was ok considering the speed (or lack thereof) of the 333. I don’t know if I would use them in other calibers unless the structure changes to be more caliber specific. I have not used them in...

    Buffalo/Sable Hunt Recommendations

You should look into Zambia, the western kafue blocks have been producing some spectacular sable and there are decent buff herds there too. A 50" sable was taken last year. Pretty impressive for wild free range sable.

416 Rem Mag vs 458 Lott for Big Game

Probably about the same time the 458win mag had issues. Modern powders are fine in both. The 416’s are a better choice than the 458’s for the majority of visiting hunters for the majority of their hunting requirements.

What have you killed with the 8x57?

Not myself, but PeteG snr hunted extensively here in Zambia with a Brno 8x57 full stock with the double set triggers. Bushbuck, duiker, reedbuck, puku, lechwe, and most of the rest in this size range. Kudu, roan, sable, hartebeest, waterbuck, zebra, and some I may not recall. Lion, buffalo...

    Safari boots opinions

I use Wildebees vellies. https://wildebees.com/product/wildebees-mens-footwear-vellie-brown/ They are soft. Comfortable (I needed and insole for the arch support). They are soft soles which help with the quietness when walking. And they are a fair bit cheaper than Courtney’s. If you need...

SA tourists are happy to pay a tax to end trophy hunting

Hmm. 1,000 people we sampled. Sounds legit :ROFLMAO: And they are supposed to make up a good demographic vs the actual number of tourists per year. $176,1m divided by $33pp (air travellers) equates to 5,3m visitors. 14,600 visitors per day? Tourist visitors by the way. I’m going out on a...

Looking for an elephant hunt for 2026

You could look into some of the Zambia operators. Although they the legal minimum is 35lbs so you’d be looking at 40+lb’ers to take The pricing will not be as cheap as some of the zim outfits though. You’d also be booking a 14day ele hunt here, not 10days.

    500 Jeffery Recoil?

There was also a significant difference between the various ammo. I believe Mike settled on the sako ammo as being easier to shoot and better control of recoil.
