Death of Zimbabwe’s Best-Loved Lion Ignites Debate on Sport Hunting

Just goes to show you should make sure with who you go hunt with in Africa. Lots of farm owners and PH's are only in it to make money. You dont want to be in a world of trouble like this dentist is.

    375H&H--->400H&H

I am itching for something larger than my 375H&H but not too big since I will only hunt one or two buffalo in my life(Just an excuse to get something larger). Looked at everything from 416Rigby-458 Lott. Decided to stay within the H&H family and see if the 400H&H is possible. I have very little...

    7x57 bullet choices

Whatever you use will work. If hunting in the bush such as limpopo where shots will be 40-120m use a 160g+ and if you do a caroo or such hunt you should lean towards a 140g. I personally use the 175g and it puts a kudu dead in its tracks every time.

Very good looking rifle you have there. I can tell you with confidence that you have a diamond right there. Ive shot winchester, remington, ruger, cz, and kimber and none of them came close to the feel of the Brno's of the old day. I have a 243 and 7x57 in the BRNO 602. Hope you enjoy it for the...

    CZ550 .375 Scope Questions

I have the same rifle but with the hogback stock. I used the medium QD rings with a zeiss mc 3-9x40. Works well here in the US and everything in Africa as far as ive seen. Dont buy a new scope. Look in your local classifieds or on armslist for a slightly used leupold. Try tonget a 3-9...

What Have You Killed with the 7x57

I used the 7x57 extensively when I was a boy and still do till this day. Found that it works best with the 140gr and then in the thick bush i use the 175gr bullets because I like the penetration I get with them. Looking for a nice one here in the States. +200 African plains game/cats with the...

New Model 70 7x57 need some recommendation!

I have a 7x57 and its my all time favorite caliber. You just purchased one of the best 7mm mausers in production that i have seen recently. Good bullets can do anything and I tend to stay with 140gr with all plainsgame species including the Eland. Your 160gr would work even better since there...

7mm-08: What is your opinion as a plains game rifle?

I think it is perfect for what you guys are looking for. The 7mm-08 is very similar to the 7x57 and if you ask anyone in africa what rifles have taken the most animals you would get the same answers with the 7mm mauser being one of them. Take some good bullets and youll have a great time. Good luck.

    CZ 550 Review

I have the Safari Classic in 375 and its a nice rifle. Mounted a zeiss on it and its a shame because its been in the safe ever since. Its too big for plains game hunting imo but ill probably use it on buffalo soon. The action cycles well but i have to admit that i do not like the trigger one...

Thanks. Ill try to find the 64 and 65 inch ones photos also but #3 was 62.5 or 63 and #4 barely made 60(think 60 1/18) on the right horn. Were taken a long time ago so the memory is a bit blurry.

What is it like owning a game ranch in South Africa?

What is it like owning a game ranch in South Africa?

Depends on what you do on the farm. We have a farm about 1200hkt and to be simple about it. All costs per month is $300. Only need one worker to make sure water goes to all the water holes and clean the house. Game is wild so no need to take care of them. Leopards do catch about 5 animals a year...

    Judging Bushbuck

Never thought much of bushbucks because I never saw one throughout my life on the farm. I have been living in America for about 7 years now and went back to the farm in the Limpopo last June for some hunting and relaxing. Needless to say, our farm has a lot of bushbuck on it now. No river system...

    CZ 550 Scope Mount

I just got the Warne QD rings for my CZ 375. There is about a 2mil gap between the bolt and the scope. Is that normal or should I raise my scope? Would raising the scope take the recoil lug out of position?

Luxury versus not so luxury accommodations

    Trail Cams for Leopard Hunting

I think your outfitter would like some trail cameras to help you on your hunt and to have some for future hunts. They are incredibly expensive in South Africa vs US so I buy all mine through friends at Cabelas. I'll usually give a friend who would do something like that a discount or an animal...

    60 inch Kudu?

They are very hard to find but there are places where you can find them fairly easily. My neighbor is a very large cattle farmer with easily more than 10,000 cattle(Mollevel Voerkraal). The kudu's are fed throughout the year by the feeding lots set up for cattle. There are also thousands of...

    Judging Kudu

When the tips are pointing outwards you know its a good one to take. Deep, long, and number of turns are the first things to look at. When considering the maturity of a kudu, an easy way is to look at the white stipe and dots on the face of the animal. When they are very visible the bull is most...
