Family friendly short plains game hunt in Namibia June 2024

Jan Oelofse Hunting Safaris https://www.janoelofsesafaris.com is a great outfit. My first safari of any kind was with them. I took eight animals home. Second safari with them produced a nice trophy leopard. I belive they have since undergone some major upgrades to the facilities. They have...

What makes a perfect buffalo hunt?

"The saw of the leopard" how appropriate. Brought me back to my leopard hunt in Namibia. I too heard it but didn't know what it was. As we sat in the dark freezing blind with a million stars overhead, the PH motioned to me and made a sawing motion. "Leopard" It sent chills down my spine...

    What have you eaten?

Kangaroo, turtle, eel, boar, Black and Blue Wildebeest, Impala, Kudu, alligator, Cape Buffalo, frogs, Natto, wana (Hawaiian spiny urchin) horse, whale, octopus, spiny lobster, crab, just a few. As a kid we had an upcoming birthday (one of the many cousins) so there was a hog to butcher. My...

Deal on CZ550 in 416 Rigby

I bought one in 416 and 375. I had to send the 375 H&H back to their gunshop in KS. It wasn't feeding well and the round would get stuck while feeding it up the ramp. I got it back but never trusted it so it sits in it's case. I have a few more hunts in me and would like to use it.

    CZ-550 American .416 Rigby

My CZ 550 shot well out of the box. Plus you can load 4 rounds (the Company brochure said Five rounds) but 4 was the most I carried in the rifle.

    .416 Rigby racket..

When I bought my CZ550 416 Rigby in preparation for my Cape Buffalo hunt I was going every Sunday to my local range. I was shooting 20 rounds each Sunday mostly from a sitting position with a lead sled. My friend was reloading for me and I actually came to enjoy it. Of course I made mistakes...

If you could choose: Brno Z, ZG 47, ZKK or Cz 550??

One caveat on the CZ 550 Rigby is a set trigger. If you push the trigger forward, for lack of a better term, it becomes a hair trigger, meaning any slight touch, tug or whisper and the round touches off. My curiosity got the better of me one day at the range lucky for me I had the rifle...

    Snakes!

While on a leopard hunt with Oelofse Safari at Mt. Etjo, Namibi one of the clients came in for lunch and mentioned that she and her Ph came across a black mamba crossing the road. They stopped and watched as the snake elevated it self up above the hood of their truck and began to scan them...

I have a CZ 550 Rigby in 416. I took a 42 inch Cape Buffalo in Zimbabwe. I like the availability of having an extra round. It is solid and well built. IMHO.

What To Take In The Field

Definitely chapstick. First safari in Namibia (May) every time i smiled for photo ops turned into a grimace. Knife. Returning back to camp, spitting cobra was sitting in front of the PH's door. Of course the knife wouldn't be appropriate to try and dispatch the snake, a large stone nearby...

Just completed my Cape Buffalo hunt with Wayne in Save, Senoko area. Here's part of the story. I'll leave out the flights and struggles with Airline personnel. So I left Honolulu on 29 August to LAX. Qatar Flight canceled and I lost a day and a half. Finally got airborne on Sept 1st on Qatar...

I left Honolulu for LAX and checked my rifle and ammo both in Pelican cases and stored ammo in checked luggage with no issues. Just had to open both for inspection. TSA was notified by check in personnel, she said to wait a few minutes ( about ten) no TSA arrived, she said I was good to go...

What To Take In The Field

Having had the opportunity to do both plains game and dangerous game (sitting in a blind overnight), these lists are quite spot on. I would agree with a safari vest (no buckles), chap stick and eyedrops. Another thought regarding binos. When you are tracking/stalking PG for the first time...

Just finished a hunt in Namibia. One day another client and her PH came across a Black Mamba. The stopped and waited for it to cross the track. It instead decided to raise up in front of the truck to get a better look at the occupants. It opened it's mouth and gave a good hiss then dropped...

Ending Trophy Hunting Of Elephants: Is This A Conservation Success?

My world is roiling in confusion right now. I did notice that Royal27 (or was it someone else) declared that he is a vegetarian. He can't be both! A vegetarian (Indian word for bad hunter) and he has still hunted all over the world. I guess I will have to accept that fact. Man there are a...
