    WANTED: Help on first Safari

I have hunted four times ( three times in South Africa and once in Zimbabwe), and I believe Hartzview Safaris would be an excellent choice for you. Lots of different game animals, great PH's, outstanding quarters and dining, good taxidermist close by, and they are quick to answer any...

WARNING to Hunters, Hunting Outfitters and Agents

Thanks for the warning. I, unfortunately, learned to never give my E-mail to a business (Target, Home Depot) as I have seen attempts to "spam" me on my account. I now delete ANYTHING or ANYBODY I do not recognize. You cannot be too security conscious these days.

    The Sabatti Double Rifle

I am seeing ads for Sabatti's regulated by Ken Owen. The only calibers I can find is 450- 400 and 470 NE. The rifles are advertised to be regulated for Hornady Ammo. Anybody know any additional information about these Owen regulated rifles?

SOUTH AFRICA: Hunting South Africa with Jacques Spamer of HartzView Safaris for Rhino

I forgot to include an important part of my hunt: I used Hannes Pienaar Productions to film the hunt again. This is the fourth time I have had a hunt filmed, and I highly recommend their work. Frikkie Nieuwoudt did the actual filming this year and he is quite experienced in filming hunts...

SOUTH AFRICA: GSTONE'S Hunt With HartzView Safaris

Thanks for the comments. The hunt report has been completed and is now posted. I have photos in my album. I really enjoyed the caracal. He is a really big caracal... thirty five pounds, but seemed even bigger when we picked it up. A great memory of this years hunt. Full mounts planned for...

SOUTH AFRICA: Hunting South Africa with Jacques Spamer of HartzView Safaris for Rhino

Thank you all for the comments. Phil: I agree...the caracal was a fantastic animal. Body looks like a mountain lion I shot many years ago...smaller...but not by much! I especially like the picture where Jacques is holding him up and I am beside him. Also true about starting as a client and...

My wife and I just returned from another hunt with Jacques...this time for a Rhino dart and plains game. This is the fourth year in a row...and every year gets better and better! We left Reno and arrived at Johannesburg on the 19th of September. We were met there by a representative of...

    Bore cleaners???

I ordered some Bore Tech Eliminator from Midway after reading some of the posts...I am VERY impressed. A lot faster than Wipeout, and a lot easier. I plan to take the 4 oz. bottle with me this year as my .257 Weatherby with Barnes TSX bullets requires frequent cleaning. Thanks for the info! :)

    SAPS 520 Question

The only way I know of is to use a service such as riflepermits.com. They get the completed paperwork to SAPS, as well as meeting you at Johannesburg and taking you to the SAPS area at Tambo for the visual inspection of the firearm(s). After that, the firearms are turned over to you.

Looking for solids for .257 caliber 100 gr.

Thanks for the feedback. My .416 Ruger worked extremely well with the DGX on my Klipspringer and Grysbok. I was hoping to take a smaller caliber for next year's hunt, but have not been able to determine which would result in similar results. I guess it's time to hit the range some more!

What made you know that you must hunt Africa someday?

My Dad gave me a book when I turned twelve...the book was "Hunter" by John Hunter. I could not put it down! From that point on, I wanted to see Africa. I remember hunting blacktail deer as a teen and thinking "elephant" or "rhino." When my first wife passed away from cancer in 2010, I needed...

Looking for solids for .257 caliber 100 gr.

If all else fails, I will figure on taking my .243. I have had good luck with some tame loads with that rifle when shooting rock chucks. The Weatherby is REALLY accurate, but probably not the right choice for the "Tiny Ten."

Looking for solids for .257 caliber 100 gr.

Velocity of the .257 Weatherby really tears the smaller animals up. I practically removed the whole off side of a coyote at 275 yards with a soft nose bullet. I am hoping the solid might result in a cleaner kill on the smaller antelope. The rifle shoots REALLY well out to 350 yards and has a...

    .416 or .458

I shoot a .416 Ruger. Pretty much the same as the Rigby and Rem. I have taken animals from an Elephant down to a Grysbok. (DGS for both), and plains game with a Barnes 350 Gr TSX. A very versatile weapon, and good at 200 yards for Sable (TSX). Rifle is comfortable to carry and shoot.

    Which Pelican Case?

I have used my Pelican 1750 for the last three years going to South Africa and Zimbabwe. I have seen the airports throw it around, slide it, drop it and the exterior shows the wear. The good part: the rifles have always arrived in perfect condition and the scopes were still dead on target...
