    416 Rigby take-down

As research develops as per all of the input you guys has provided, the Parkwest "Continent" is leading the pack. That's simply based on a value for dollar basis. They seem of rather good quality for what I would consider a reasonable price compared to other options in this category. I want a...

    416 Rigby take-down

Rigby doesn't make one and neither does Heym, which would be my first choice in their express. I'm looking for something of a similar style and quality.

    416 Rigby take-down

Hello all, I'm extremely keen to either locate or have built a take-down "field grade" rifle in .416 Rigby. If anyone as any information of where I can find such a rarity or perhaps who to talk to about a build, I would greatly appreciate it. Warmest regards, Jake

No apologies needed, my friend. I prefer the direct and detailed information you've given here. It has help me to gain a better understanding of many things pertaining to these older rifles and I hope it helps others as well. Too many people these days will beat around a bush, be overly...

Thanks Bwana. That's exactly what I plan to do just as soon as I get her shooting properly. These old girls can be picky about their diet.

Again, I appreciate your taking the time to share wisdom and lay things out in a very clear manner. I just git off the phone with Mr. Owen and arraged to send him the rifle if the stuff from Superior doesn't work out. Ken is a very pleasant gentleman to speak with. I look forward to continuing...

Fell in love with a working girl

That's a lot of very good information and I greatly appreciate you taking the time to share. Another question, would it be a viable solution to chose a modern load, such as Hornady or the like, and then have the rifle re-regulated ? In that scenario I would be able to use off the shelf ammo and...

Fell in love with a working girl

I appreciate the insight. When I have more time to tinker with it this fall I will start doing development myself but until then I have to rely on a professional custom loader to get me something that will work for the season. Thanks again.

Fell in love with a working girl

I shot her with some Federal Swift A-Frames at 25 and 50 yards off of a standing rest and this is what I got. It's the only fodder I have at the moment. The barrels are not crossing which I think is good news. I was in a bit of a hurry so I didn't set up my chronograph but I will next time...

Fell in love with a working girl

Thank you. I'll definitely give updates at we go along. I had a box of Federal Swift A-Frames but although each barrel shot really well individually, the rifle didn't pair them well. I've got Superior loading me some stuff to try soon that should preform better as a whole.

Fell in love with a working girl

I started trying to do a little research on the rifle myself as I wait to hear back from Glasgow. The only information I've been able to aquire thus far is that the serial numbers seem to indicate that the rifle was made sometime between 1901-1911. Another curious thing is that it seems to to...

Fell in love with a working girl

Yes sir, I don't think that anyone could have said it any better. Many moons ago I did a stint in the Army myself, so that particular history of this rifle and others like it resounds to me. I do wish I could somehow track the life of this rifle, who it belonged to, and get an idea of where it's...

Fell in love with a working girl

She's nothing fancy but but I sure do love her lines. Holland Royals and Westly Droplocks are fine as wine but I'll take a long bar Webley every time. She's an old girl with not much makeup on anymore, her case colors long ago rubbed away but she still locks up smooth and tight and her tubes are...

Opinions on the real big boys? 500J, 505 Gibbs, .500 NE, 577NE, 600NE, 700NE etc.

The TSX in the .577 is useful for everything that's lesser than brain shots on elephant. The 577s use isn't exclusive to elephant hunting. It's a wonderful thumper of buffalo, hippo, or just about anything you care to point it at.

    Heym 470

First, congratulations on acquiring a really handsome rifle. I do have a couple of questions if you will oblige me. Great information and I will be sure to anneal the case mouth/neck after every few firings. Thank you all, gentlemen. Aside from the annealing, are there any other tricks that will extend the life of these very hard to find and expensive cases ?

Firstly, thank you for your reply. The I have two makes of brass, the first being BELL and the other Jamison. The Jamison fodder seems quite more substantial in terms of both sidewall and rim thickness.

416 Rigby vs 458 win mag

Speaking from experience, the 416 is far more versatile across a wider range of scenarios. If you only want to shoot buff and ele then the 458 may be a shade better with a touch more "punch" but if you're buying a rifle for all around applications then a 375 or a 416 will serve you better...

Most efficient 3 cartridge spread for dangerous game?

Judging from what I've seen, the most effective dangerous game cartridges in each category are as follows. 1. 416 Rigby (medium) 2. 458 Lott (heavy) 3. 577 Nitro (ultra) There are many on here that have more experience and will certainly have differences in opinion. I should say that in any of...

What gun do Professional Hunters like to use?

1.Custom .458 Lott built on a CZ 550 action for DG backup 2. 375 H&H for everything else including any personal hunting I get to do. Note: I almost have enough saved for a Heym 89b .500 NE . Previously I’ve carried a .416 Rem mag, 470 NE Merkel , and a custom .500 A-2. I much prefer a...

    The last pair of binoculars

I’m admittedly hard on equipment, was born that way I guess. My mother’s nickname for me growing up and occasionally today is Bam Bam.
