Vancover Island - Black Bear wanted 2013 for 4 swedish hunters

To reply to your original question...island bear hunts are not cheap, but if that's what you are looking for, I can personally highly recommend Trophy West Guide Outfitters (Trophy West Guide Outfitters). Hunted with them 2 years ago and had a great hunt. I believe they are the only outfitter...

    What happen to Ruger?

I suspected this was going to happen, and I was lucky enough to acquire a 3-set of these rifles in .375 H&H, .416 Rigby and .458 Lott. Only the .375 has been to the Dark Continent so far, but I'm working on changing that.

The Agony Factor - Travel to Africa

A few years ago I was able to fly from Toronto to London to Windhoek with my luggage checked through all the way. Worked out great, but I understand now that SAA won't allow you to do that anymore, and you will now have to check your guns through customs in Joburg, which can be not-fun if you...

Big 5 hunting concession in Caprivi

Would someone please explain to me why the trophy fees for buff in Caprivi are so much higher ($8,500-$10,000) than just about anywhere else in Africa, including Tanzania? Are the buffs that much better? The daily rates are generally very reasonable, by DG standards, but what you save there...

ZIMBABWE: Bad Leopard Hunt West Nicholson Zimbabwe

I've never hunted leopard, so I certainly can't speak from experience, but just to play devil's advocate for a moment...The cat hit at 8 pm the night before, and then you sat until 11 pm the next night without seeing anything (I assume it's reasonable to assume that the cat might be back around...

    Medical Perscriptions and Shots

One thing you may find is recommended, at least in some areas of Namibia, is anti-malaria pills. Just be forewarned that some of them can cause some unpleasant reactions. When I went to Namibia, my wife and I both took Malarone. I had nightmares, she couldn't sleep. Once she stopped taking...

Choice between 2 rifles for Africa

You may find that some PHs have very strong views, both positive and negative, about certain guns, calibers and bullets. Asking for his advice ahead of time, if possible, will likely start you off on the right foot with him. Conversely, if you happen to be using something that he doesn't...

BOOKING THROUGH A HUNTING AGENT or OUTFITTER DIRECTLY

In my experience, reputable booking agents will gladly put you in direct contact with the outfitter straight away. The booking agent has already secured his commission at that point, so it's in everyone's interests to make sure that you speak to the outfitter and get the "straight goods" right...

BOOKING THROUGH A HUNTING AGENT or OUTFITTER DIRECTLY

In my opinion, unless you or someone you know has hunted with the outfitter before, and you value that person's opinion, you are really taking quite a gamble on a high-ticket hunt like an African safari if you book directly. I think it's one thing when you're booking a $4000 whitetail hunt, but...

    Leopard Attack Zimbabwe

Guys, correct me if I'm wrong, but I would think that the reason a shotgun with buckshot is seen as an effective tool in these situations (although maybe it really isn't) is because it gives you the benefit of having multiple projectiles to fling at a small, fast moving target. Although I agree...

    .458 Lott advise

Rob, I assume you are in Canada? I recently acquired a new Ruger Model 77 .458 Lott and fired it for the first time this weekend. I had a little trouble getting the scope on paper, so I ended up firing a half box before I was done (Hornady DGS). I use a Lead Sled, and I highly recommend...

Ruger M77 Magnum in 416 Ruger - Opinions

I own 3 of them, one in each of .375H&H, .416 Rigby and .458 Lott, so I guess you can tell what I think of the gun. Although I haven't yet had a chance to shoot the 2 bigger ones, I used the .375 in Namibia a couple of years back and found it to be exceptional. Beautiful wood on them, too.

    375 Rifle Choice

Ty, This is an old thread, so maybe you've already found what you're looking for. If not, you might want to have a look at the Sako. I have a model 75 Stainless Synthetic in .375H&H and I love it. I bought it for brown bear in Alaska, but so far the closest I've come to that trip is a...

Question about non-hunting wives on DG safaris

I did a PG hunt (my first safari) in Namibia in 2008. My wife accompanied me and enjoyed it immensely. She was with me in the field most days, but we spent the vast majority of our day in the vehicle, and when we did leave the vehicle for a short stalk, she waited in the truck for us to return...

I've done one safari for plains game in Namibia, and I'm now looking at Tanz, Zim or Moz for my next safari, this time for Cape buffalo. I'm getting conflicting views on the fence situation in the Selous, the Save and Niassa, respectively. I'm pretty sure there aren't any internal fences in...

NAMIBIA: Nick Nolte Safaris Has Anyone Hunted With Them

I hunted with Nick in 2008 and it was very good. Got a terrific gemsbok and hartebeest, and a decent kudu. The only thing I didn't get was an eland. I did an 8-day hunt.
