    July 2015 Safari with Hartzview

It is my understanding that diamonds are just like cameras, computers and other goods. You just need to declare them and pay the duty. Not sure how they calculate the duty. Given that "I read on the internet that..." is pretty much worthless in this situation, perhaps a phone call to the US...

    Beretta Silver Pigeon 1 trigger

Given that you slap the trigger on a shotgun, I am not sure why it would matter. Perhaps it would matter if you were using it for a slug gun or maybe even turkeys. Can you give us a bit more detail as to your concern?

    Preparing to pack

I went to Limpopo during the first week of September. The first two days it was raining and the high temp was around 70! I was glad that I brought my fleece jacket, cargo pants and a stocking cap. The rest of the trip was cool mornings and I wore cargo shorts and light cotton rip-stop shirts...

REPORT: My bad experience with Highveld Taxidermists/Oxi Logistics

Sadly, there is little recourse for a hunter when something like this happens. What are you going to do - send everything back? Take a flight across the ocean and try to resolve things in person? Not gonna' happen. Outfitters and the D&P services know this, so as soon as they get your money...

The Birth Of Wild Africa Decals

LOL! That is good to know. I often wonder if I am just surly or truly anti-social. Perhaps we all are.

The Birth Of Wild Africa Decals

Decals look great. Especially the Big 5. Any chance you will update your website with the current designs and prices soon? I know Face Book is the big thing these days, but I would not log on to that site if you were giving the decals away...

    Africa Window Decals/Stickers

Contemplating a window sticker for the new truck. Around here, everyone has the flock of ducks or the deer rack, so I was thinking about an Africa theme. I found a zebra decal and thought that it would look really nice on the tinted back window, but I was curious if there is anything else out...

CANADA: Bumed Out Hunt In British Columbia

You need to familiarize yourself with the period and enter keys. Man that report was tough to read. :knockedout: My heart goes out to you. I got suckered on a Manitoba bear hunt and it still sticks in my throat. Funny thing is, the following year their brochure said that they had 100...

Question? Free range Eland hunts in South Africa

Sounds like you have the right attitude. I chased Eland in RSA for several days on a property that was close to 30 square miles enclosed by a game fence that was close to nine feet tall. Fence did not play one bit of a role in the hunt. Could have been free range for that matter, as the Eland...

My first time Huntng in africa

12 days/12 animals for that price is a pretty sweet deal. Almost too sweet. Is this a cull hunt? If not, I am suspicious in that most places would charge you close to $800-$1,000 for each of the big critters that you listed (a price of $1,500-$2,000 for the Kudu is not unusual). The kudu...

Teaching How to Shoot off The Sticks

That is great. It sounds like our young grasshopper is coming along nicely. For what it is worth, when I first started shooting a rifle (we hunt deer with muzzleloaders and shotguns here), I had a hard time getting the crosshairs to settle down on the target. I think the problem...

Zebra skin rug / Oryx skin rug

Me too. When I mentioned that I was going to have to rug one of my trophies due to limited wall space, he immediately told me to rug the Gembsok or the Blue Wildebeest. He told me that most people rug the Zebra, but it was his opinion that the GB and the BWB make the prettiest rugs. Hope he...

    Bullet choice?

I think you need to focus on finding a well constructed bullet that your gun shoots well. That aside, I used Barnes TTSX 180s on my recent trip to SA and I will probably shoot no other. My reasons are that my Savage shoots them very well and with the exception of a Gemsbok (double lung)...

    HELP!!! Wyoming antelope hunt

I stand corrected. :bonk: My comment was based on the fact that the ones that I had seen had a tendency to follow a fence rather than jump it. Learn sumthin' new every day.

    some cammo facts pls!

Forget the color of your clothes and focus on minimizing movement. I have killed deer in bluejeans and a wool sweater. You may look like a big tree, but if that tree starts moving, the critters are going to take notice.

    HELP!!! Wyoming antelope hunt

Nice job guys. My GF has a hard time understanding that 99% of hunters and fisherman are class acts and enjoy helping other people out. You guys prove my point. It is my understanding that they are not goats or antelope (old world antelope anyway). I did a quick Google search to confirm it...

SOUTH AFRICA: Hunt With Cruiser Safaris

Did you leave any animals for anyone else? :) Very nice trophies. That BW is a bruiser. I shot 180 grain Barnes TTSX out of my .06 and got pass through on every animal I shot. Most fell over and died right there. My Kudu, Wildebeest and two impala fell on their noses. The only animal...

Teaching How to Shoot off The Sticks

Just got back from RSA and my PH had me lock my legs. Made for a more stable base. Might be worth a try. Before the trip, I practiced on a tri-pod and shot off a bi-pod in RSA. Found the bi-pod to be easier. Applying backwards pressure and running my off-arm through a sling also helped me...

    Recap of My First Safari...

Day Six The morning of day six found us up early and looking for Impala or Warthog. I should note that the farm we were hunting is severely overpopulated with Impala and they offered us a discount that was effectively a 3 for 2 offer. I like hunting Impala and think they are beautiful, so I...

    Weatherby shotgun advise

LOL! That reminds me of when I shoot upland for a few weeks with my Citori and then take few days to chase ducks with my 870. The first few hunts with the 870, my second shot usually consists of me "jabbing" the gun at the ducks while pulling the trigger. Takes me a bit to remember to work...

    Weatherby shotgun advise

It seems that you have your heart set on the SA, but what it wrong with your current pump gun? I hunted ducks and geese for years with an 870 Express with a rattle-can camo paint job. It has yet to let me down and I have abused it like I stole it. I mean, I have dropped it into water, mud and...

    Recap of My First Safari...

Day Five Continued The afternoon found us sitting in a blind watching a waterhole. There were plenty of birds, squirrels and monkeys to watch, and even a few shooter Duiker. I did not have the heart to take another shot on a Duiker, so they all got a pass. There were no Waterbuck, Eland or...

    Recap of My First Safari...

Day Four Ammended I forgot to mention my episode with the Duiker. While sitting in the blind where I had killed the Impala, a beautiful male Duiker came to water. The sun was getting low on the horizon and with about an hour of daylight left, I put the crosshairs on the shoulder and...

    Recap of My First Safari...

Day Four After breakfast, Herc, David, Jen and I left camp to take a look around. I really had no set list of animals. However, I really wanted a Zebra and a Waterbuck. Less than five minutes had passed when David was snapping his fingers for Herc to stop the Rover. Herc told me that we...

    Recap of My First Safari...

    Recap of My First Safari...

Day Two The next morning we woke up to the same drizzling rain and cold temperatures. It is funny how you can tell that the South Africans are not used to such "cold weather? Herc's Dad stopped by and the "brutal cold" was the topic of conversation at the breakfast table. He was wearing a...

In August of 2011, I won a seven day hunt for two with Hercules Safaris, in the Mpumalanga province of South Africa. Proof of Immunizations?

Less than three weeks from my trip to RSA. Someone told me that on their last trip to the RSA they were asked for proof of immunizations by an immigration official (not sure if it was SA or US). Do I need this? Any thoughts or experiences?

What do I need to know about the TSA?

I tend to drive everywhere and this will be my first international flight (with or without a gun). Having no experience with the TSA, I would be interested in any tips or "must know" information that you might have for me. Last thing I want to do is get in a bind in the airport.
