Anything interesting to do with a kudu, wildebeest or gemsbok skin?

I now have two of each and wanted to do something interesting, perhaps have a leather shop turn them into ladies bags, belts, boots, something. The hair is on all the hides. I've also seen them used to top off ottomans and bar stools, but I'm not sure about the hair. I don't want it to break...

    Plains Game Rifle Selection

I find it irritating that people will recommend a smaller caliber on the notion that shot placement is everything. Of course shot placement is everything. It is everything with a larger caliber also! This should be the final word on caliber and bullet selection for international hunting...

I'm glad you asked. I submitted a video to the Hornady staff describing my hunt and the bullet performance of the SST. Its 12 minutes long and unedited. After submitting it I wish I would have edited it or been more succinct. But hey, what's youtube for if not for amateurs.

Ok all you africa experts answer this

Had my SST bullets not experienced complete core/jacket seperation, which they did on all the bullets we recovered, I would have had better results. All we could find was peeled copper jackets and no lead at all. This is something I am in talks with to the Hornady staff right now.

I look forward to hearing back on your thoughts about the lack of blood trails. You will indeed kill game, hopefully everything you shoot at. Just hope they don't run far. Good luck.

Nice Waterbuck from Safari last week

This wasn't with Ibamba Safaris in Limpopo was it? I just returned from hunting with them last week, and we watched what our PH said was the biggest waterbuck he'd seen kill a smaller waterbuck just for walking in front of him. We all watched while eating our lunch. It was surreal. The big...

Go find some 220 grain or heavier ammo for the .300 Win Mag and start shooting all over again. I took Hornady Superformance SST in 180 grain for my .300 win mag and never saw a drop of blood on any animal except where we found them dead. Don't get me wrong. I killed every animal and nothing...

Is it ok to transport your rifle ammunition in your bow case when traveling to South Africa?

Just returned from Joberg on safari. Used original boxes, but checked luggage was inspected by TSA in Atlanta before we flew out of country. The Joberg police didn't care about the ammo at all as long as it wasnt in the same luggage as the weapons. AND MAKE SURE YOU HAVE COPIES OF YOUR...

Other 1st time safari tips needed

Great advice from everyone and I thank all of you. I do have one question after all this, twice people mentioned having copies of passport photos. Do you mean additional copies of our photo, or copies of our passport? It seems to me that you mean copies of our passport and not just the photo...

Other 1st time safari tips needed

I've done a fair bit of study on my upcoming safari but I still can't figure some things out. 1. Do I need to use a gun handler at the airport in Johannesburg, SA? I hear some people recommend them, but the rate is $150 per person. And others say the process is easier than an airport in...

Package hunt vs. Day rate + trophy fees, which do you prefer?

Alright, alright now. Thanks to everyone for their thoughts. To clarify some things, I am going on safari, my flight leaves in about 10 days. I am on a daily rate + trophy fee schedule, but as I wrote originally, it is blended together. Having seen many different pricing structures, and...

Package hunt vs. Day rate + trophy fees, which do you prefer?

I am actually going on a hybrid fee structured hunt where the trophy fees cover all of our typical safari cost. As such, this outfitters trophy fees are about 20% higher than his competitors, but there are no daily rates. To ensure some profitability he does require a non-refundable deposit of...
