Gator Hunting Who's done it? Need advice

James, I'm planning a group hunt 4 hunters some time next year. My guys prefer to do it with bow/crossbow/ harpoon over rifle hunting and we'd love to do it on airboats. If you have something that fits this, let me know.

Gator Hunting Who's done it? Need advice

I'm planning a group hunt for gators..don't know much about it but it looks fun. I've had to resort to researching and calling outfitters based on what google searches yield. I'd really like input advice from members here who have gone...specifically; 1. outfitter recommendations 2. Length...

SOUTH AFRICA: Gary Phillips Hunting Safaris Anyone Have Information Or Experience With Them

Ditto that. Gary's been hunting a long time, just under his own title now. My uncle hunted with him this past year and he has some exceptional areas and they had a very successful hunt.

    Splitting Image Taxidermy?

That would suck. Sorry to hear that. I guess I look at it this way..as you can see, you have to get creative to pack a lot of critters in a tight space, if the box gets bigger costs start going up every leg of the journey home. To keep on topic, My recommendation is to keep doing what you are...

Class 2 Firearms and Gun Trusts

I'm surprised others have no input here. My update is that I talked with 3 other Class 3 dealers, here is the summary: Dealer 1. Wait times are 18 months. He is letting his class 3 license expire. With wait times that long the money to be made vs the headache isn't worth it. Dealer 2...

Class 2 Firearms and Gun Trusts

I might be pushing the expertise of this forum...but let's see: In THE LAST 6 MONTHS, has anyone successfully processed an application for a Class 2 weapon (suppressor, SBR,etc) under a Gun Trust? I inquired on making such a move today and was informed that this particular Class3 dealer...

cost of scope vs cost of rifle

Never get cheap on glass..but also I don't believe a $2k scope is twice as good as a $1k. When comparing rifles-then you certainly get more for a "doubling down",IMO. Leupold VX-3 is my personal "go to" line, although I recently acquired a Trijicon..very nice, but not Made in USA. For my...

Can a "proper" buffalo hunt be found in South Africa?

At this point I'm just plotting the next excursion. Just trying to identify what can be expected and where. The hunt and shooting a good bull from a big herd, or seeing lots of big herds is more important to me than wacking a big bull next to a fence.

    Camera for hunting?

My wife was with me-so essentially we were 2x1 with the PH. We had the camera in the backpack if not being carried. Spend money to get a good camera- and buy it now! Can a "proper" buffalo hunt be found in South Africa?

This seems to be the time of the year when the urge to return beats a little harder...Safari Banquets, cocktail events with African Outfitters, mindlessly browsing AH, etc ,etc. My return will be for a buff, and limited PG left standif from my firstly plains game safari. Best/Funniest Mount Ideas

Most outfitters will let you shoot baboon for free... I thought a full body standing upright in dressed in either a ring-bearer tux or little French maid dress would be BA! Also a warthog 1 of 2 ways, split between a door way (headhalf on one side of the wall..ass end on the other,..or the...

    Black or Blue Wildebeest

Black! For the reasons stated above about their character, snort/wheezing sound they make is definitely unique, the tuft of hair on their snout is awesome when you get your mount back! Also the black Wilde is a success story of the safari industry and hunter conservation. Also-as most here...

    New .375

I bought one this summer..and have a thread on here about scope/ring options. It's a damn nice rifle... What type of glass are you thinking? Actually went to the range this am...just shooting some light 230gr hand loads, then will probably go 270gr.

    Great place for couples hunt

I took my wife with me when we went a few years ago to RSA. We picked an outfitter whom also was part of a Big 5 Game Reserve-allowing us to have private game drives when we had down time...this is something I haven't seen many other outfitters match. I can only hope we get the opportunity...

    Outfitter PH question

Almost every outfitter will allow you the option of renting both rifle and ammo. By the time you account for the checked gun case fees, rifle clearance fees-its 50/50 to take a gun vs rent one. The thing you gain with taking your own rifle is the comfort of knowing exactly what it is and...
