    416 Remington Magnum on a CZ550?

Thanks for the input gents - Ive never seen a 416 rem mag in a 550 here in Australia unfortunately. I shall give it some thought.

    416 Remington Magnum on a CZ550?

Ive been thinking of turning my CZ550 in 375 into a 416 Rem Mag. So I would have a 23" factory profile barrel made with the integral open sight island so I can keep the original CZ550 open sights with a better front sight blade than the factory one. Only other inclusion would be a barrel band...

    416 Remington Magnum

Ive been thinking of turning my CZ550 in 375 into a 416 Rem Mag. From what we can see all is required is a barrel change to a 23" 416 Rem Mag , keeping the original CZ Open Sights , and the fitting of a barrel band and a better front open sight Blade. The stock will be slimmed down a tad and...

Anyone has experience with Blaser R8?

Great looking rifle ArmyGrunt. I love the look of that Classic stock. Just be aware - they are very addictive! I know - I have an R8 Proffessional and 4 barrels now Very practical guns and I love the fact that one can quite safely walk with one in the chamber & action decocked. Happy hunting!

The .308 Win for plains game

If one cannot shoot a 308 properly, then handing them a 300 win mag or similar would more than likely make matters worse. No substitute for shot placement and good bullet selection.......a magnum is not a miracle cure.....

    Blaser R8 in .500 Jeffery?

No R8s that I am aware of have come apart. The action was tested to approximately 215000 psi about two years ago in Germany and I believe it's just been tested again to somewhere close to 250000psi. Without the action blowing up. So that's well in excess of just about any other action one...

    SAFETY WARNING!

If this is the incident with a 338 Lapua here is Australia there may be more to this than meets the eye. IF what I hear is true, and its from a couple of sources, the operator was apparently using commercially made hand loads and lubricating the bolt head with Hornady One Shot lube as he was...

    Help save the CZ 550!

I suspect that CZ will discontinue the 550 30/06 length action which will obviously include the 9.3x62. I would be very surprised if they discontinued the 375 length action 550 though. But who knows. Personally it would not worry me particularly though. Plenty of M98 actions around and one...

6.5-06 is it an ok caliber for africa and help with bullet choice

130gn TSX would be a great bullet in the 6.5/06 for the game you mentioned! They are one of the best hunting bullets available today. The 130gn is a long projectile and penetration will be superb. You could leave your 300 win mag at home IMO.

Paul I do have some S&B cases and from memory they hold very slightly less than the Sako cases. I have reloaded them and they are fine though I have noticed that the primer pockets are just a tad shallow. I did not worry about recutting them though. Regarding the 140 gn factory S&B Softs...

Some 7x64 CZ550 Pics for Sestoppleman

Hi Paul My 140 gn TTSX load (can't get them atm!) is Sako brass and 55gns Rel 17 for an average of 2930 fps. Overall length of 3.43". I did not bother with 2213sc as I have always had very good results with R17. If you use this load please work up from a couple of grains below. I use...

    CZ bolt modification?

I have a 7x64 CZ550 with a 3-9x40 Leopold on it and no problem with Talley meduim mounts. I suspect that if you stick with a Leupold scope and its relatively small rear housing (1" tubed Leupolds that is) that you won't have a problem with low mounts. However a Zeiss Conquest 3-9x40 contacts...

Paul I will be surprised if you dont find the Sako brass very good. Its GOT to be better than Winchester or Remington. The 140gn TTSX will be a hammer in the 7x64. I am running mine at 2950fps using Rel 17. Regarding that powder - it comes from Europe and not from the US. Some of...

Paul Sako cases are available from Beretta through any gunshot here. I believe that Sako factory ammo will be available shortly too! The cases I got we're not as expensive as I thought they would be - $24 per 20 and my initial impression is that it's very good brass indeed. Apparently the...

30-06 - The calibre to love or hate?

The 30-06 is undoubtedly an excellent caliber. So is the 270win, the 280 rem and the 7x64. I have recently bought a 7x64 - just for something a little different - in a Limited Edition CZ550 and i plan to shoot everything that one would normally shoot with this caliber with a Barnes 140gn...

    .375 H&H cartridge failure - help??

What 375 H & H rifle would you Purchase and Why

Personally I would not buy a Win Model 70. They have lost an ideal opportunity with the New Haven built rifles to profile the 375 barrels like the pre 64. What they have done instead is use one barrel profile for the 375, 416 and 458 and as a result the 458 is not a bad handler but the 375 is...

    .375 H&H cartridge failure - help??

To me that looks like a weakness of the case in the belt area. I would not fire ANY more of those PMPs in that rifle. If you get total separation of the case head it could be very unpleasant indeed and result in the destruction of the rifle - and possible consequential injuries. Have you...

243 Winchester for smaller plains game?

243 Winchester for smaller plains game?

Well thanks very much for the informative replies. I think that the secret to non varmint hunting with the 243 will be quality projectile choice. I will start with 80gn Barnes TTSX and see how they do. My initial quarry will be pigs and maybe a fallow within the next couple of months. Jim...

243 Winchester for smaller plains game?

Okay Gents - who here uses the 243 for plains game hunting? What do you hunt and what projectiles do you use? I have not had much experience with the 243 in the field - other than using one in South Africa to dispatch a couple of Springbok for the pot on a friend's property. That it did...

What 375 H & H rifle would you Purchase and Why

I spent some time looking at the 3 new Winchester M70 Safaris. They are nice rifles - except for one aspect. Winchester has used the same barrel profile for the 375, 416 and the 458. The 458 is the most balance of the 3 and the 375 handles like a truck axle. For the life of me I cannot...

What 375 H & H rifle would you Purchase and Why

Thats not a bad idea - and they balance beautifully. I have an R8 with a 9.3x62 and 30-06 barrel and both are cosistent sub moa shooters. Not cheap though!

First look at the Ruger African Safari 9.3x62

Enysse Plenty of Buff have been taken using the 9.3! For me I would use one projectile only on Buff - the 286gn Barnes TSX. In my M98 i have it going comfortably at 2300 fps and I suspect it will fill the rolls of both a soft and a solid for most situations anyway! The rest is shot...

First look at the Ruger African Safari 9.3x62

    6.5x55mm for Plains Game?

I have 3 Weatherby Vanguards and a Howa - though of course the Vanguards are made by Howa. I think the Howa Vanguard action is vastly superior to the Remington. To begin with its the bolt handle is a single piece unit, secondly its has a proper extractor and each one of my rifles shoot...

    .375 in the Howa 1500

I have seen the 375Ruger Howa here in Australia. Just be aware there is a 24" barreled version available - thats the one we have here. The Australian version is drilled and tapped for open sights but does not have them. Magazine holds three rounds. I have had a brief chat to one of the...

What is best bullet and grain for 300 Win Mag for Lioness?

SPK1142 You dont say if you handload or not - or even where you live but, assuming you dont handload, if it were me I would seriously consider Barnes VOR-TX Factory 300 win mag ammo with 180grain TTSXs if you can get them. They do just on 3000 fps at the muzzle, hit hard, and open up easier...
