What made you know that you must hunt Africa someday?

John Wayne in Daktari, Mutual of Omaha for sure. Once you go you have to go back

Which convention to go to? SCI or DSC?

I was a first time attendee at SCI in Vegas last year. Even though I was sick I enjoyed it. I'd like to go again. One thing I do realize though is that if you are going to look for a trip you need to time it so you have the funds and can commit to the hunt.

    Trophy Room with New Mounts

Forgot to post the details. Trip was in July 2011, Dip and Pack/Shipping took until 2-18-12, just got the mounts delivered Sunday. Besides being some really great mounts they are all paid for as well.

    Pope Brothers Guide service

Hunted with them several years ago and had a decent enough time. Trip was not the most successful for me, and the weather was tough for calling so only a few of us were successful. Getting trophies back was tough. Make sure you alot enough time to get your hides stamped so you can take them...

    Items in Rifle Hardcase

I kept my pelican ammo boxes in my bags so I put TSA locks on them so they could inspect if they wanted to. Did not have any issues on either end. The foil pouches could be an issue as some TSA inspectors may react differently. I had a small bottle of hops taken in the states a few years...

    Hello from Michigan

Welcome Fellow Michigander. You will have a riot, and want to go back. Trust me you will shoot a "couple" of others. Be flexible on your list and take what Africa offers you. Plan and most of all have fun!

    Cost of Shipping Trophies

I brought back 1o trophies to the states a year ago. Dip and Pack was around $1,100, and shipping with clearances, trucking etc was right around 1,000. That was via Delta air freight to Chicago

Using Barnes XXX FB 300 Grain Bullets for Kitty Cat??

No specific experience on Leopard but lot's with Barnes in a .375 can't go wrong in my opinion. Especially if you work up your own handloads.

    Handloads to South Africa?

I took 2 small pelican boxes and used either plastic MTM boxes for the .375 H&H. On my 30.06 Ackley Improved I bought some of the cardboard boxes from Midway and filled out load labels. My wife and I each carried a Pelican Box loaded. No issues either direction.

    Hunts for Greenhorns

Don't be intimidated about going to Africa and only hunting Impala, or Black Wildebeest because of your experience level. Go with an open mind, be truthful with your PH, and practice, practice, practice your shooting skills. Then practice some more with shooting sticks. I spent about 14...

    The "Perfect" Bullet???

Hands down on the last trip it was Barnes TSX out of the .375 H&H that really anchored the game.

    The "Perfect" Bullet???

Watch out for the partition's as well. I loaded mine a little hot in my 30.06 Ackley and had similar issues. My PH swore on Accubond's.

    Memories of a miss

Last year I hit a Gemsbok a little back, and the chase was on. Took about an hour to catch him and get him down. It was the first animal I took and I rushed it a little. I was ticked off at myself the whole time we were tracking the animal but was determined to finish the job. I think when...

    Correct scope magnification for 30-06?

Good Scope Selection. i"ll try to be brief. The 50MM is the objective size and actually helps to gather more light, and it also gives you a wider field of view. If you go to the Leupold website and check out the specifications you will see that. They will define it as Field of View at 100...

    New Poster from Mississippi.

Took the cabela's one over made it over OK, but on the way back it took some damage. I'll be able to have it fixed and probably get several more trips out of it but I am not sure that the repairs are not going to be a one time thing. I'd really lean toward the Pelican, or a Stormcase. Have...

What are the more important features that you look for in a hunting lodge?

Good staff and great food, reliable power at certain times, bar time before dinner, daily laundry, dry towels, hot shower in the morning to loosen up the bones. Good campfire. Can go without pool, sauna, massage

Do you have any hunting "goals"?

Someone else mentioned it and that is to be able to afford to take hunts every once in awhile without impacting our current living style. I think yearly trips our important but recognize you have to save for the big ones (unless I win the lotto). All that said here are current goals: 1...

    Remington 375 H&H

I took 2 700's (one in .06, and another in 375 H&H) this past summer and had excellent luck with them. I'd have to add that I go out west to South Dakota to shot pasture poodles and shot large volumes of ammo each day thru 700's. The only time I have had a feed issue is when I did not do my...

    Hard Case for Rifle?

Took a Cabela's Safari Double Gun Case last time. Held up going but on the way back the bottom got a big dent and one of the miters was split. I'll have it fixed and use it again until it is only good to move guns. I have Pelican Cases and they are great as well.

Hand Loaded Ammo? FIRST HUNTING TRIP TO SOUTH AFRICA

I bought 2 Pelican 1200 Boxes complete with all of the pluckable foam inserts. I only ended up using top and bottom foam but when I got back i set one up for my FN 5.7. On the box size arrange some boxes and then measure them and go check what might work size wise for you. There is a guy in...

Hand Loaded Ammo? FIRST HUNTING TRIP TO SOUTH AFRICA

It should also be in a pad locked box like a pelican box or something like that. If you would like I can send you the model no that I used. I took 2 boxes one in my wife's bag, and one in mine. Some input on the number of rounds....you don't need 200. When I go next time the maximum will be...

    .308 Win. for Antelope?

The problem with loading stuff that hot is that in the heat of the hunt you may not be able to extract the case because the brass and/or primer is outside of it's spec'd limits. We all know we try to make that first one the right shot, but sometimes it does not go down perfectly and you need a...
