    BENIN: Hunt With Atacora Safaris

I did as my taxidermist is pretty good. But I think this one will be too much for any taxidermist. The picture is of the "good" side. The other side is completely gone. Everything between the ears and the nose is pretty much destroyed. If I cannot get another cape from somewhere, I will ask the...

    BENIN: Hunt With Atacora Safaris

I personally only saw tracks, but a couple of French hunters in camp at the same time ran into one during one of their stalks. As I understood from the PHs, there is a small population of them staying in the concession, but they only have 1 tag a year. Also baiting and calling is not allowed. So...

Rifle stock project CZ 550 375H&H

Vette447, Yes, same stock. This was done a few years ago and I don't remember the exact cost, but if I remember correctly, Triple River has a price list for different services on their website. Very competitive pricing and they did good work with my CZs. You can also email them for an estimate.

    Lifeform Taxidermy Dip and Pack

Just to update, I ended up going with Game Tan. Their quote was about half of what Lifeform had quoted and somewhat closer in line to my previous safaris, although still a bit higher in my opinion. I did get a very good quote from Bullseye taxidermy, more in line with previous safaris, but they...

    Lifeform Taxidermy Dip and Pack

Brickburn - Thanks. Just to add, both the other trips mentioned had 1 Big 5 as part of it and overall I was happy with both the previous services. I was hoping to get a specific reason like added clearance or special treatment for FMD or something like that required for buffalo as opposed to...

    Lifeform Taxidermy Dip and Pack

I recently did a hunt with Jan from Shumba Safaris and now it is time to arrange for dip and pack. The quote I have been given by Lifeform for dip and pack and crating of 2 capes, 2 skulls and 2 feet of buffalo is $1270. My bill from RSA in 2012 for 11 animals with multiple flat skins was $955...

    Namibian Shipping Agent recommendations

SOUTH AFRICA: Cape Buffalo Hunt With Shumba Safaris

Thanks. Savage Hunter - very funny and graphic... Paul - I used Jan's double for the hunt. The reloads are his. The rifle is a Sabatti and I have an identical one in 470NE. I know they have mixed reviews, but here's my experience. I have taken 3 of the Big 5. Two of them now with Sabattis...

SOUTH AFRICA: Cape Buffalo Hunt With Shumba Safaris

Cape Buffalo Hunt with Shumba Safaris This was a short notice hunt offered by Jan of Shumba Safaris and was aimed at raising funds for rhino anti-poaching units in the Balule Reserve. Balule is part of the APNR and is open to Kruger. Between the rest of APNR and all of Kruger, it is a huge...

    Black or Blue Wildebeest

I would also have to agree with the Black WB. I have taken both, but the blue is more common and can easily be found in many areas. The black is a little more rare, but not that much in these days of game farming I suppose. If you are hunting in SA, especially around Free State or neighboring...

Rifle stock project CZ 550 375H&H

You will have fun with it. Adding a fore end and grip cap can be a bit more work than most assume. To do it right so you have a seamless finish, you will have to sand the areas down and will end up having to re-checker the stock (at least the grip) again and refinishing it. That's what they did...

Rifle stock project CZ 550 375H&H

That's what I plan to do next when I shorten the barrel. Currently it sticks out well above my head when slung on my shoulder and when walking through the bush it gets snagged on branches from time to time. I would like it to be level with the top of my head and the barrel band would definitely...

Sorry for the crappy pics, but that's all I seem to have of the rifle on my computer. It's a CZ 550 in 375HH also. Before After Harlan Satrang at Triple River Gunsmithing (USA) did the work for me. They do the CZ Custom Shop work here in the US for them. Very nice to deal with. I had a...

    Outfitter PH question

If you rent/borrow a rifle, one thing I would suggest is that you discuss in advance on who would be responsible if the rifle is damaged due to no purposeful act on your part. This year, I rented a rifle. The rifle I hunted with belonged to the PH/Outfitter's friend. I was very glad that his...

    .58 caliber double rifle.....Buffalo ?

Most commercial airlines will not allow you to fly with BP, as you would with ammo. I would suggest you discuss with your PH about local requirements regarding hunting with BP first and what caliber, if any they recommend. You could also ask them if they can source the powder for you. You can...

    .58 caliber double rifle.....Buffalo ?

I should have mentioned, the person I was referring to has taken multiple buffalo and elephants with muzzleloaders. .58 caliber double rifle.....Buffalo ?

I don't know anything about muzzleloaders, but this thread and the other on elephant hunting with a muzzleloader caught my interest. Kalahari only animals...

I would highly recommend the Mountain Zebra in their natural habitat also. This year it took me 5 day to connect with a leopard, but another 9 of truly hard hunting over some fairly rough terrain to get the zebra on the very last hour of hunting. The drought in Namibia has had some effect on...

    Trijicon?

I used to have a Nikon Prostaff 3-9 that I put on a 375 H&H and for some reason it just wouldn't hold zero. I never bothered to contact Nikon and ended up giving it to my friend's wife who put it on a .243 and it works fine. I ended up with a Swarovski Z3 3-10 on the 375 and it works great. On...

    Trijicon?

I have an Accupoint 3-9 on a .308 and RMR on a double. Like them both very much. Nice in early morning / evening low light conditions. Decent glass for the price and the fact that no batteries are needed. Holds up to recoil and travel on both those rifles. I will buy Accupoints again.

    Russell boots

I use these types of lace in boot zippers on a couple of my ankle length boots. You adjust them to where you are comfortable and then just use the zipper to take your boots on and off. That's a hell of a deal. I have one in the same caliber but with ejectors. You will enjoy it. Unless you have really long arms, you will probably want to shorten the LOP to fit you better. It shoots great with Hornady DGS and DGX. Wish I was near Cabelas right now. I want another in 450-400...

    Sabatti report

The weaver mount. I believe it's the 34. The picatinny should also work as Sabatti advertises the mount as one. But I didn't want to take any chances. The original set up with small screws is still holding for me, but it would be a good idea to drill and tap it out for larger mounting screws.
