    Rhino Hunt 2024

I would take you up on this, but South Africa won't allow bow hunts on rhinos. If that ever changes, I am all over it.

7 Day Trophy Elephant Hunt US$15,000 All Inclusive

If I could get a bow permit, I would put in a hunt report. Last time, I kept uploading a daily GPS log of all the miles we covered. I won't hunt another elephant unless I can get a bow permit though.

    Elephant with a bow?

Both. On foot definitely harder and more dangerous.

    Elephant with a bow?

No, using a bow as a backup would be insane. That said, the stopping power is the top priority for backup weapons.

    Elephant with a bow?

I will chime in here. I have not hunted an elephant with a bow - I was denied a bow permit in Zimbabwe on my elephant hunt so I had to use a rifle. I do have a bow capable of taking an elephant. It is a 90lb draw Mathews Monster Safari (28.5" draw length, 1,250 grain arrow with I think 116 foot...

I am not addicted to hunting buffalo. I can quit whenever I want to. I don't want to.

How many here are bowhunters only?

I guess one should ask if your hunting it limited by time or trophy fees. If fees are the limiting factor, then spend more days hunting. I just prefer the hunting with a bow.

How many here are bowhunters only?

Bowhunting only for me. Hit 51 years old today so I figure I probably only have another 20 more tears or so with the bow. Better get to it!!

Cape Buffalo - What does it taste like?

I have had Cape buffalo filet three times. Two were the best two steaks I have had in my life (one I shot and another was shot by a client who was hunting just before my daughter and I went on our sable hunt). This last one was quite good but not in the top 10. The winner on my last trip was...

What is a "perfect" buffalo hunt?

Hard to say what would be perfect because each person has their own goals and their own motivations. My perfect hunt if I were single would involve dangerous game like a buffalo, lion or leopard and Kate Upton as a hunting buddy. I am married now, so that perfect hunt would also have to include...

    Zimbabwe Archery Lion and Hippo?

Thank you Lon. I did contact Alfred and he told me no permit for elephant. I just mentioned that five years ago I had an official letter from Zim Parks (I think it was them) denying my permit as somebody above said he never saw anything official. If you could ever get a bow permit for elephant...

    Zimbabwe Archery Lion and Hippo?

I did get an official letter but it was 5 years ago and I cannot find it or even a photo or copy of it. I kept pushing for a permit for elephant with a bow and was told no and when I kept pushing, they finally sent me the letter that also stated I could not use a bow on hippo, rhino and buffalo...

    Zimbabwe Archery Lion and Hippo?

I certainly know it isn't a gimme. I just figure that unless I opt to hunt with dogs, I am going to be doing nocturnal hunts for the leopard and then what am I going to hunt during the day. My preference would be to hunt other DG during the day in addition to the odd plains game for bait. Also...

    Zimbabwe Archery Lion and Hippo?

Here is what I found elsewhere on bow hunting in Zim: BOWHUNTING Bowhunting is legal in Zimbabwe. However, the hunting of pachyderms and thick skinned animals, like elephant, hippo and crocodile, with bows and arrows is no longer permitted. Bow-hunting may only be done with compound bows...

    Zimbabwe Archery Lion and Hippo?

I think the issue is we are being told it is allowed somewhere but I cannot find where it would be allowed and am guessing my outfitter is seeing the same issues. I did not bring up lion or hippo to Alfred. I want to get my leopard in Zim but have been holding off to do that as a combo hunt. 14...

    Zimbabwe bow hunting Elephants

Would LOVE it if we could get some clarification on this. I really do need to redo my elephant since I was denied a bow permit last time I was in Zim. I would like to do a Leopard/Elephant combo hunt and get my Big 5 wrapped up, aside from the rhino which is currently impossible to get a permit...

Odds of arrowing these animals in limpopo

Your outfitter is in Marken. I am not that familiar with the area. I know there are a TON of blesbok at a concession named Buffelspoor just north of Thabazimbi and next to the Marakele National Park. Still, it is probably a 2 hour drive each way and the last few miles of the road to the...

    Bow Hunting Failure

There is a HUGE difference between a long bow and a compound. While 80# is considered what is needed, I think for long bows that is pushing it. Still, without knowing their draw length and their arrow weight and broadhead choice, it is hard to make a comment without basing it on assumptions. I...

SOUTH AFRICA: Has Anyone Hunted With Gotsoma Safaris?

I will confirm the above statement from Adrian is 100% true and an accurate description of the events between us and his efforts. Prices of African in Texas

I have six safaris down in Africa. One hunt was a single animal. The next smallest was 3 animals. Generally speaking, even when on a single animal hunt, I will take an animal of opportunity on one or more occasions.

    Not A Warm Welcome!!

I thought @freefall was Canadian but while I do agree we bring our notions and biases, this is a website for hunting Africa. It is in the web address, so there can't be much misunderstanding there. Ironically, one of the few people whose name in the record books is just a number is the...

    Not A Warm Welcome!!

There are differing views on the purpose of a record book. The book was originally started by Rowland Ward and it was just a measure of trophy quality to see if the size of horns was stable or falling over time. The original purpose was not for bragging but just to see how the animal horn size...

    Not A Warm Welcome!!

Not every trophy is something that can be entered into a record book. My latest hunt, one of the top items for me to get was a honey badger. Trophy value is in the eye of the hunter, not in the record book. I ate some of my giraffe, but it wasn't very good. There is no way I am going to eat a...

    Not A Warm Welcome!!

That sounds to me like a lot of rifle hunters grabbing a bow and then tanking the bow hunting averages. I am all for proficiency tests to get your bow hunting license/tag. And just to add, I have taken 2 Cape buffalo with a bow. Both were down in under a minute from a single arrow. Neither bull ran more than 60 yards. Been there, done that. I was on a water buffalo hunt and when we find the water buffalo after looking for him for quite some time, I grab my bow in one hand and the door handle in the other to get out and start stalking. My guide informs me he left his rifle at the lodge and just tells me to...

    Warthog Skeleton

Imitation is the most sincere form of flattery. I will be asking my PH if he would be willing to help me out with such a mount on this next hunt. India Leopard attack

    Cowboy’s take on an AR15

I bought an AR for my daughters to start shooting but they didn't take much interest in it. I have an 8-year-old that is getting closer to that age. I am seriously thinking about getting it altered to look a little more appealing to her. This below is what I had in mind:

Did anybody notice this film is “unlisted” so if you don’t have a link to it, you cannot find it to watch? If you search for the title, it doesn’t not show up. If you have it in your collection of titles and somebody subs to your account, they won’t see it. Why is it unlisted?

SCI & DSC What are the differences

While they don't have a record book, doesn't GSCO have something similar where you can submit animals that are below the record book level for the purpose of tracking your slam? I know there is an incentive to hunt an animal to submit into the record book, but I have taken giraffe, zebra and...

Extra 75 gr or a few more FPS Buffalo arrow?

I actually had a similar break on a broadhead back in 2019 but I also hit a spine on a blue wildebeest at an extreme quartering shot and I was not really surprised by that. Of course, I didn't lose my bull or even misplace him for a while. I simply put another arrow in him and was done. Sucks to...
