    Calibre for lightweight rifle dilemma...

Thanks Velo Dog, Not ruling out the 30-06 completely, and the Mauser M12 comes in a 7x64, which is handy. wish it came in a 8x68, and then I'd be sorted! agree, one rifle-calibre won't do it all, Im just trying to find something that shoots relatively flat, has enough energy to nail African PG...

    Calibre for lightweight rifle dilemma...

Hi fellas, I have a bit of a dilemma, in that I'm looking for a cartridge to fit a lighter weight rifle (6-6.5lbs) that will be my 'overseas' rifle for PG in Africa, New Zealand & North American Mountains (for Tahr, various sheep etc) I purchased a Tikka T3 Lite stainless in 300WSM, and put a...

    .370 Sako Mag

G'day Pheroze, don't be afraid of being a bit different and going for a 9.3. Obviously the problem in North America is ammo availability from what I hear, but a lot of the American manufacturers are getting into the bigger medium bores & big bores now (including the euros), such as Hornady. I...

    .404 Jeffery

Great write up monish, very concise. Anyone I have met who owns a 404J raves about it, enough so that if I ever buy a 404, I think a 404J would be my choice of cartridge. Like Christian, I like the look of the Heym rifles, and intend to have a look at them at our Australian dealer sometime soon.

    G'day from Oz

Thanks Jerome. Thanks Werner, your website is excellent. I understood that species such as dik dik were small, but I didn't realise they were only 5kg! I'm sure I've shot European hares that weigh that much!

    270WSM for plains game?

I have been considering the purchase of a Sako Finnlight chambered in 270 WSM for hunting the mountains of NZ with the view that I would also take this rifle to Africa, but reading the related threads here many suggest that the smaller calibres are unsuitable for the larger species of plains...

    G'day from Oz

Hello fellow hunters, I have the goal set of a plains game hunt in Africa for my 40th birthday (still a couple of years away), so I have joined your esteemed forum so that I am well prepared for my first PG hunt. I also intend to hunt the mountains of NZ. I am not interested in trophies, I...

The Classicist: The US$ 825,000 Rifle

Yes, it is definitely has screws on the action for scope mounts, I guess they were waiting for S&B to stick gold leaf all over a scope so it would match the rifle... I agree with you skyline, even if I had that sort of money to blow on a firearm, I wouldn't want all the 'bling' on it. But I...
