Transiting through Germany with hunting bow and arrows

As to the "bow and arrow"-issues: Indeed, in Germany the bow is legally NOT regarded as a weapon, but as sports equipment. Although, on flights, it is a good idea to just go to the firearms department at the airport and declare your archery equipment as "dangerous goods". I did so prior...

    The Return to ....

I wish you two all the best... last year the luggage and airfield staff at Frankfurt were on strike for weeks and weeks on end... everybody was fed up with them in the end. And the Lufthansa employees had to suffer a lot of cuts in the recent times, so they might have some anger growing...

    The Return to ....

You're welcome! That would have been too much of a dream, I guess... Nope. Even I as a German citizen can't pay by credit card; they only accept "EC-cards" (euro-cheque, I don't know the correct term) in their card-readers. (maybe I should try to get issued with a speed ticket by the...

Brickburn, I have tried all FOUR phone numbers of the Frankfurt authorities several times for the last 3 days, and no one ever answered the phone... I'm sorry I don't seem to be able to help you :( So, let's see if they have objections or if you pass...

    FRANKFURT FIREARMS NEW FORMS

This new form is in fact not very different from the first one. in No.2 you should not forget to mark either "private Person" or "Waffenh舅dler", which means professiona weapons dealer. Nearly correct. With "sonst. Waffen" or "sonstige Waffen" they seem to refer to those categorie D...

    FRANKFURT FIREARMS NEW FORMS

Addition: I've read the German text once more, and I see that they don't differenciate between bolt and lever, so Category C will match, I would guess.

    FRANKFURT FIREARMS NEW FORMS

Hey Brickburn, I can't open the attachments since I am on my mobile right now, but I think I simply mixed up "lever action" and "bolt action" (in German: "Repetier-Waffe" like the K98 system or a Remington 700 and such). Unfortunately I am a beginner with firearms (bowhunting is so much...

    FRANKFURT FIREARMS NEW FORMS

lfd Nr., or "laufende Nummer" just means the item no. on a list (1./2./3. and so on) Now, "Kategorie" is a bit more complicated... apart from the weapons law there is a sort of guideline which categorizes weapons from A to D. I'll try to translate the descriptions, I hope to find the proper...

    FRANKFURT FIREARMS NEW FORMS

If you like, I could translate that for you? - In Germany we have a newly installed data base for legally owned weapons (of course, how could they store data about the illegal ones), and now everything gets even more complicated, without any better chance of getting the "bad weapons", but...

    Swiss International charges for firearms

Oh, there are a lot of traps like this: When we flew from Frankfurt to Jo'berg in 2010, we booked with SAA, and with them sports equipment such as rifle- or bowcases are free. But, since SAA is member of "star alliance", that particular flight was carried out by Lufthansa, and so, THEIR...

Hate mail this is actually pretty funny!

The funny thing is, these lowlifes accuse US of being cruel, violent and whatever, while THEY at the same time "threaten" us with the worst, aggressive things they can think of in their small minds (if only they knew what mankind was capable of in the recent centuries...) Any women bow hunters out there?!?

Any women bow hunters out there?!?

Well... I don't want to spoil your enthusiasm or anticipation, but... honestly... I think that 45lbs at such a short draw length are at least... critical for hunting an Oryx. How heavy do your arrows have to be to gain enough momentum to pass through (as optimum) such a quite big animal with...

Arrow suggestions from African Plains Game hunt.

I had nearly the same setup as your dad's carbon element: 54 lbs at 28.75". I used arrows (Easton Excel 340, 30", a bit longer than usual to gain weight, Blazer Vanes) of 440gr, inclusive 125gr Silver Flame Broadheads, and done very well.

Any women bow hunters out there?!?

Sure are, Packsy. Have hunted with an Elite Synergy Xtreme, 54lbs, 28.75", next time with an Elite Aigil at roundabout 65 lbs (as much as the limbs allow) Have hunted South Africa, KwaZulu Natal, Impalas, Warthogs, Blue Wildebeest, all clean shoot-through's. On my wishlist for next time...

    Ohio animal farm......

Rick, you are right, absoluty. And I know how difficult the choice of the right dose of narcotics on a wild and upset animal is (once saw that with a buffalo in a zoo, needed three doses instead of one), but nearly 50 animals and not a single one saved? The other thought that crosses my mind...

    Ohio animal farm......

This sad story was spread even in the German news today... My two cents: You can never prevent things like this from happening. Here in Germany we have one of the most restricting weapon and hunting rights, but still we have the occasional lost soul running amok... You'll never know what's...

    My Destiny At Last

Oh, I know! In Germany we have similar problems with the European Boar (just google "Wildschwein" and "Berlin") These animals are not shy and used to human civilization, so they go into the suburbs of Berlin, even at daylight, search through gardens, dustbins, whatever, leaving a big mess...

    Zebra Gender

If you don't have a direct view on the genitals: Since zebras are a kind of horse, one can judge the gender by the size of the neck: stallions have a more muscular neck. But I think you need some experience for this, same as determining a blue wildebeest's gender by the base of the horns...

Well... one of the most massive blades released from a 101 lbs bow.... should do the trick with the plywood. No miracle. You don´t have to worry about anything with a setup like this. Letter of Invitation needed for bows in South Africa?

I had my bow deliberately given to the firearms dept (to avoid silly questions and delays caused by the 'normal luggage' staff, you know), and I just had to open the case for a quick glance if the content really is 'weapon-like goods', and that was it. No problem at all at OR Tambo or Richards Bay.
