    Cape cod fishing help

I used to fish a good bit out of Marshfield area. My brother and Dad have fished recently with Rich Antonino of Black Rose Sportfishing and recommended him. I know he fishes out of various ports in that area.

    An AH Booze Cruise

I don't drink much anymore, but for me a good gin with a bit of plain seltzer water and a slice of lime is hard to beat. For a good gin, at least in the eastern USA, I have found Dogfish Heads micro distillery makes a great one for mixing. Another excellent one is Conniption out of NC. Both to...

    Fishing Addiction Group

On my bi yearly trip to southwestern MT to fish with some old friends from PA. One buddy lives out there and fishes extensively, has his own drift boat and raft rig. Always a good time. Had killer weather, caught the end of the hopper bite and a few afternoons of wicked streamer fishing. Lot of...

Not hunt wanted but horse riding in MT for 2025

I spent a week some years back at Upper Canyon Outfitters in Alder MT fishing. They did rides daily from the ranch and the owners and staff were fantastic folks. Options from lodge rooms with all meals to cabins with kitchens. Located in the Ruby Valley and gorgeous area. Up the canyon further...

    Flashlight Review - Nitecore MH12SE

I work full time as a mushroom grower and have done so the past three years with another year experience further back. Most of it is done in the dark. Of the flashlight offerings from the company none have beaten the Nitecore headlamps ( cannot recall model number). They hold up well, throw...

    In memoriam: My wife’s passing

I am so sorry for your loss. Cancer sucks in every sense of the word, and it has taken too many good people in too many good families. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

    Brussel Sprouts recipes

They are good roasted. To really take them to the next level , saute some bacon in a pan ( chopped up), add the Brussels sprouts ( quartered or halved) and some fresh garlic, fresh ground black pepper. Saute until they get nicely brown. Bacon fat may negate some of the benefits of the veggie but...

Remington Model 8 35 Remington w/ Marbles Sight (take down)

If the state of Pennsylvania had deemed it ok for us hunt with semi auto rifles for big game when they changed the regs a few years ago I would jump on this. The Remington model 8 and 81 have a unique aesthetic and would be perfect for most whitetail hunting in my area.

Obsession with tactical rifles & equipment

I think the biggest difference in opinions seen in this thread is simply perspective based on the nation people are posting from. In the US, it is generally acknowledged that gun ownership is a right, and that thankfully at least as of now rights are not predicated on what someone "needs" or on...

    Florida Man Fights Off Bear

Florida man, not the hero we deserve but the hero we need. If you ever want to read about another interesting bear story look up the cocaine bear. I believe it was in a southern locale where a bear was allegedly found dead after apparently ingesting a large quantity of it when it came upon a...

    B&C Limits tech use

To me, an organization that won't adapt will eventually die. One way or the other. I don't have a smart scope but I don't hate the idea. If something aids in making clean, quick kills and the hunter can shoot the given distance reliably, I have a hard time hating it. And the bit in the article...

    My Covid vaccination experience

I got my first two of moderna back in May. So far so good, although felt lousy for a day after second one. My ex father in law skipped the jab, was a deputy coroner, ended up with it, ten days in the hospital then fell over dead the day after he got home. He had some health issues but was way...

What gear would you never buy again?

I had a pair of Irish Setter short boots start to come apart after two weeks of light wear for break in. Unfortunately it happened while I was in Africa. Managed to limp them through but that was the last pair I've had.

Most surprising/had to have animal on your first Safari

I missed a baboon and really would like to take a dedicated try at one if I ever return. I did not take a shot at a duiker that I really should have, and also had no interest in a zebra until I saw later how flighty they can be ( didn't have one in the budget so did not hunt one). Ostrich also...

    Lyman Great Plains rifle

My grandfather built flintlocks for many years and actually currently has one on the bench in his shop. Of the commercial cap and flintlock guns he always has regarded the great plains rifles from Lyman as good ones. Growing up I was taught for Goex powder at least to try 1.5x caliber ( bore...

Mixology report, whats your favorite mixed drink?

For me, if I drink liquor I usually prefer a G&T eith a citrus forward gin ( Tanqueray, Compelling by Dogfish Head or Conniption out of NC are my 3 favorites) with two wedges of lime. I also occasionally like Crown Royal with a stout wedge of lime squeezed in and a splash of club soda.

    Strange occurrences while hunting?

As a relatively young teen I was bowhunting early November at my grandpa's property. There was a rumor going around that someone nearby had a ram get loose from their farm. A few folks said they had seen it including my dad that archery season. I had set up with my brother off to one side, my...

    Strange occurrences while hunting?

@Red Leg it's odd you mention this my dad had two similar brushes with hawks while bow hunting. We never quite figured out the why, with the best guess being his beard may have vaguely resembled a squirrel.

What animal do you fear most? And why?

I would say the only one I'm irrationally scared of is larger spiders ( not a fan in general). Have never seen a scorpion wild and in the flesh but believe those would not work well for me either. On my one and only trip thus far to RSA a member of the group found a rather large spider in their...

If I recall it was called Hansa , a beer I had in RSA, end of the day before heading back to camp after getting a nice mountain reedbuck and a bushbuck in the same day on a big property in the karoo. Honorable mention was the unique mixture of captain morgan and green sparletta cream soda cannot...

    Montana Highlights

Awesome photos, heading out in August to visit an old friend who has a place in Twin Bridges to do some fly fishing. This will be my second trip out just to wet a line ( focused on the upper Ruby River my first trip out). Hitting the hopper bite is hard to describe to people.

Euro mounts- Am I smoking the devils lettuce?

I generally agree. I have debated if I would ever take a gemsbok I would have to think hard about whether I did a euro or shoulder. I have had some cool ideas on a springbok slam with euros and flat skins used in display. I've even seen an amazing giraffe euro displayed on a few of the vertebrae

Sight, sound or smell, which evokes African Safari the most?

I would say the sound of the doves ( it was the first thing I noticed when I got to the lodge ), the sound of jackals in the evening ( distinctly not like coyotes), and the smell or the one bush I cannot recall in the Eastern cape but when crushed or when the land cruiser went over it and it hit...
