    Colt 357 Magnum Revolver

Everyone talks about the Python, but not nearly as many talk about the predecessor. The Colt 3 5 7 Magnum revolver was first and it has the same internals as the Python right down to the same silky smooth action. Of course it doesn't have the full lug with the ventilated rib and the Royal blue...

    Kidney Stones Suck

I got my first kidney stone back in 1985 when I was seventeen. Over the past 35 years I've had five confirmed kidney stones. I've had three procedures. The last one was in the spring of 2013. They are truly awful, but they also helped to save my life. In the spring of 2012 I had a stone and the...

Just for fun Finally got a Mauser Broomhandle after many many years

Still here and I did get it out to the range. A few weeks after I purchased it my father passed away unexpectedly so there was a long delay before I finally got around to taking to the range as in almost a couple of years. I replaced the springs with Wolff springs (to include the magazine...

Has someone here on AH who hunted Tiger in Vietnam?

Coming a bit late to this topic, but I own several back-issues of "Guns" magazine from the early sixties. In the January 1963 issue there is an article from Col. Charles Askins about hunting in the Vietnam central highlands. If you are curious "Guns" has put all of it's back issues on the...

Just for fun Finally got a Mauser Broomhandle after many many years

I've owned a copy of "Joe Kidd" in VHS (purchased back in the 80's as a college student) and now in DVD. One of the movies that has made sure that I never lost the itch for a Broomhandle. "The Wind and the Lion" is another movie that I blame for ensuring I never stopped wanting one.

Yes it does have the slot for the rifle stock. I hope to get one, but right now I'm tapped out and they seem to be running between $350 - $500. I've got replacement springs ordered from Wolff and I got ammo from Midway. Genuine brand new 7.63 Mauser made in Serbia.

7.63 Mauser, 9mm Parabellum (World War One for the German Army. Commonly known as the Red 9 Broomhandle or Prussian Contract), 45 ACP (Chinese made), 9x25mm Mauser Export, 8.15mm Mauser (experimental). There are some older sources that states that a small number of Broomhandles were also made...

Just for fun Finally got a Mauser Broomhandle after many many years

I still have to get replacement springs from Wolff. Just got 100 rounds of brand new 7.63 Mauser made by Prvi Partizan so I'm on my way. But I'm not in a hurry. I waited for thirty-seven years to get one of these so I want to make sure I do everything right.

Just for fun Finally got a Mauser Broomhandle after many many years

It's just a cool pistol. Ergonomics aren't great (definitely needs the rifle stock to be at it's best) and it's over-engineered, but none of that matters. It's just a very romantic pistol. Too many old movies in my youth I guess.

Just for fun Finally got a Mauser Broomhandle after many many years

Seeing how many here are interested in the old days of hunting in Africa I thought there might be some interest in the classic Mauser Broomhandle.I finally picked up a Mauser 'Bolo' Broomhandle about two weeks ago. I would describe it as a good shooter quality pistol. It was at an estate...

    .318 Westley Richards

Very interesting article. I had never heard of the .318 until I read "Something of Value" a few years ago. It got me curious. I have a friend who likes to hunt elk and moose here in Idaho and Montana. He's fond of the classic loads and rifles. Wonder if I should set him looking for a .318 Mauser...

William Evans 8 bore hammer gun

1890's? It was rated for black powder, but I never got a chance to ask the date of birth. I had just a few minutes before I had to leave on a call. By the time the evening slowed down it was after 2:00 A.M. so I was unable to get back over. Wish I'd had more time.

William Evans 8 bore hammer gun

I actually asked. I was told fifteen pounds. It was heavy, but very compact and balanced. Despite the weight ,and size, it moved very easily in my hands. It didn't seem heavy and dead - like say how a 15 lb dumbbell would feel. A once in a lifetime experience. Glenn told me that the owner...

William Evans 8 bore hammer gun

I've been meaning to post about my experience from a few months ago, but I just keep forgetting. Until now. Yesterday I Googled Mark Sullivan. I've heard about him and I was curious. Wow. Now that is one controversial individual. His videos on You Tube are.....well interesting is probably the best way to describe them and him. If it's an act he's very good at it and if it isn't.....well anyway is he here?

Auction Find. Colt Army 1917 45ACP revolver

So I went to an estate auction today. The gentleman who passed was a serious gun collector. All of the pieces were in fantastic condition. There were three revolvers that I was interested in. A New York State police S&W Model 520. A Colt Army Model 1917 and a S&W Model 65 with a 3" barrel. First...

Getting In Physical & Mental Shape Before The Hunt

I know that partially it was just the lifestyle, but when you look at photos of the great African Legends such as Frederick Selous, Fredrick Burnham, Harry Selby and Philip Percival the one thing that stands out is they were very fit looking, but also compact and wiry. No super broad shoulders...

Getting In Physical & Mental Shape Before The Hunt

I'm 47 now. I used to be 250 lbs, but about five years ago I decided it was a time for change and I now weigh around 187. I'm 5'6" so when I was heavy I really looked heavy. I mix my exercise routines up. I row, swim, walk, use the elliptical machine, do calisthenics and work out in my garden...

    Why Not A Double Rifle?

CTDolan you jolted my memory with your mention of the 450/400. When I first started studying double rifles over ten years ago it was like trying to learn a foreign language. Much of the terminology was similar to what I knew when it came to firearms, but it was also so very different. On face...

    Hello from Idaho

Thanks for the welcome. About eleven ago I was given the opportunity to fire a classic FN Mauser in 375 H&H and a pre-WWII Mauser Type A Sporter in 404 Nitro. The gentleman also had another Mauser in 318 Westley Richards, but I didn't fire that one since he was short of ammo. I was hooked.

Hello. I'm a lifelong gun collector. I focus mainly on revolvers , but I like all types of vintage firearms. I'm currently a police officer and I served 14 years in the United States Army (1986-2000). No combat tours. I'm not a hunter, but the past few years I've become fascinated with African...
