I own VC's in 470NE and 600NE. If I had my time again I'd 100% buy VC again. They're beautiful, well balanced, strong, great options and extremely accurate.
My collection has grown from when I started this post back in 2020.
My VC 470 is now accompanied by a 1906 Manton 450/400 3¼" for nitro and most recently a VC 600NE Imperial.
Many years ago I went to ShotShow in Melbourne, Australia and had the privilege to meet Jerome from VC (now at Rigby) and was lucky enough to fondle a beautiful VC in 600NE. This started my love of doubles and big bores and now own a few of my own. It recently came to my attention that the 600NE...
Thank you Red Leg.
The bores are in excellent condition and the barrel is shiny with strong rifling.
I'm in Victoria, Australia. We're currently experiencing some of the toughest Covid lockdown rules globally.
So today I gained a permit to break lockdown and took advantage of the situation to pick up my Manton 450/400 3 1/4" (NP for 60gr Cordite). Now to wait till I'm allowed out and shoot.
I recently acquired a Manton double rifle and was wondering if there was a way to research its history? I'm not aware of Manton having a ledger so not sure if there is another way to gather some information. All I know is that its circa 1880
Thanks everyone for your feedback. I have a bolt rifle in 450 Rigby and I feel I have enough power there if I ever need it.
I liked the idea of a caliber that starts with a 5 but it looks like the 450/400 has my heart.
Hi all, Has anyone purchased a new Merkel recently? How are they finding the build quality, regulation and lastly, do they still have a doubling issue? I'm looking at a new Merkel in 500NE but unsure. Alternatively, it's a VC in 450/400....
The wrong one....was meant to be my Trijicon 1-4x24 but cracked a ring with no 30mm spare so mounted a Leupold VX3 1.75-6x32. Wasn't perfect but got the result!
Didn't have much time for load dev so used QuickLoad. The node was 106.4gr of AR2209 behind a 550gr RNSN Woodleigh.
I'll post some more rifle pics soon.
So not only is the 450 Rigby finished, my first opportunity to hold and fire it was on a buffalo hunt in the Northern Territory. Snagged a 102 bull on her maiden outing.
Thanks Sandman!
The 450 is definitely a very versatile cartridge but absolutely performs with the heavier bullets. I plan to standardise on the 550gr RNSN Woodleighs as they are a proven performer and they are relatively easy to come by.
Would love to see some pics of your 450! My barrel...
Thanks guys! The guy building my rifle knows Geoff well so it was a nice surprise. Their bullets are also exceptional! I can't wait to smash aussie water buffalo at the end of the year!
Currently getting a 450 Rigby built on a CZ550. It was a very nice surprise when my pre-rifle care package arrived to find a message from Geoff himself in my Woodleigh manual!
