My Last Handgun: What I chose when Canada ended civilian firearms ownership.

The only problem a guy like me can face is a lack of wilderness and space, opportunity and security for my family; the rest are inconveniences. Fortunately all that abounds here. And really, I can’t get upset about being born in the west, and Canada in particular. I never have to worry where my...

My Last Handgun: What I chose when Canada ended civilian firearms ownership.

Proper view of a proper little gun. As for going abroad with handguns from Canada, nothing has changed. We can keep the ones we have, we just can’t acquire more. For now.

My Last Handgun: What I chose when Canada ended civilian firearms ownership.

I just keep the perspective, there are definitely inconveniences, but I’ve travelled to and worked in places with actual problems. There’s a lot of healthy distraction in the north, as close to unlimited hunting and job opportunity as this planet has, so much empty wildnerness you can empty a...

We’ve got the same problem up here, no good choices either side of the aisle.

My Last Handgun: What I chose when Canada ended civilian firearms ownership.

Hadn’t done a video in eight or nine years, and this one isn’t thrilling, but the occasion was special to me. It’s the last time a handgun will arrive in the mail here in my country, in all likelihood, and I wanted to capture what I chose and why. Here’s my last handgun.

The gun I loved to hate. While skinning a Grizzling in the water at dark, the Mossberg took a bath. The source of some of my problems with it were not the gun’s fault, to be sure.

The Merkel doing what it does best with an adversary, that at closest was eight yards from its muzzles; and that likely overestimates the range.

Yea I’m running a handload of a 200gr FMJ, I just pull the PMC one pictured, and reload over a stiff load of Longshot for mid 1,200s FPS out of the G40. Brass is single use and bulged at that point from the Glock feed ramp.

So, the dream that didn’t take, had Stuart Satterlee make me a full Titanium Mauser, boat Ti too, and chambered it in .375 2 1/4”. After all that I hate a double rifle priced Mauser that never fit right, and I couldn’t justify to reduction in power over my Model 70 .375 H&H. The H&H ammo is...

    Work Guns I've Known...

Work Guns I’ve Known… I have owned and have used a diverse range of guns in my professions in the outdoors as a bush pilot and guide outfitter who specialized in coastal Grizzlies, Brown bears to our American friends. The guns range from a .375 H&H double rifle to a Glock. Those two actually...

Professional Hunters - What rifle do you carry?

Abeln I've used lots of different things, I'm on salt water and we run 4hrs in and out with generally the gun uncovered. Eezox is the best "oil" I've found but shockingly WD40 is 90% as good and much cheaper to apply twice a day. The stock is just maintained coats of tung oil. You can tung oil...

USA: Double Rainforest Grizzly Hunt On The Wild Coast Part I

Thank you Edward, Alaskans are our neighbors and we have more in common with them than the rest of Canada. Both wonderful places. Some more pics from the North Coast, a few of these going to the alpine side of the territory.

    Moose Bowhunting Outfitter

This is a very broad question, what sort of bull are you after? I realize this is a tough question to answer as you're just starting your enquiry. You can spend from $8,000 to 30,000+ on a moose hunt, and many make great combos with caribou or bears. Alberta doesn't produce top level bulls, but...

oneeyedsheepguide, without taking a side as I know none of the involved, I will say as an outfitter and guide in BC very much like yourself there is an awful lot the client never realizes is happening and being decided upon. Thank you Edward, fun but hard work making those memories! Makes them sweeter. Nice John! USA: Double Rainforest Grizzly Hunt On The Wild Coast Part I

That it is, British Columbia is bigger than Washington state, Oregon, and California combined but with less than 10% of the people. And my territory competes for the least travelled parts of already very quiet BC. It's frankly a logistical challenge as everything you do, you're completely on...

USA: Double Rainforest Grizzly Hunt On The Wild Coast Part I

The money spent on it likely won't compute and it barely does for me ($35k US / 50k CAN), if starting again I'd build something else. Started with a River Hawk bare hull, first put on a single jet, then bought a second and twinned it for redundancy and an excess of power as one struggled in the...

Wahunter and gillettehunter thanks for the kind words. These bears are called coastal Grizzlies here and enter the books as Grizzly, but I'm a hundred miles south of the Alaska border, they're feeding on salmon, and they don't know they're not browns. The largest government weighed bear was...

USA: Double Rainforest Grizzly Hunt On The Wild Coast Part I

Darn straight! Hardest place to hunt I've ever worked, not as a result of game numbers, just the environment. 20 foot tides, massive rainfall, and the rivers are the real challenges. That and trying to move anywhere in cold jungle at any pace. All that makes for some pretty wild and exceptional...

USA: Double Rainforest Grizzly Hunt On The Wild Coast Part I

After a long stretch of writer’s block I had to find my voice again, and what a way and setting to do so a double Grizzly Bear hunt is, at least in my mind’s eye. No question the bottom of a bottle of Aberlour, a pipe, and some successive good strong West Coast IPAs have helped open the literary...

Trying to develop spring black bear in the same idea, it's an everything that's great about the outdoors trip, with a bonus black bear. It's a pretty spectacular place to spend time, no roads, need a 3hr ocean trip or a bush plane to access it.
