The little fellas can move pretty quick also.... this arrow is out of a longbow so it's a bit slower than that compounds (shoots about 160fps or so) but the bow is deathly silent.
This little Red Duiker, even with his head turned away from me moved and ducked at the shot....
sorry about...
Jim Babcock of Big Jim Bow Company (Google search) builds this bow in one piece then literally cuts it in half. It is a tang set-up so to speak with a carbon wrapped sleeve. Black Widow Bows and Cari-Bows of Canada also use this system. Jim sells all the materials necessary to build the sleeve...
Stretch you will have a blast!!!
Nothing quite like a stick and string and the feeling when it all comes together.... Shoot, shoot, shoot then shoot some more, pick a spot and you'll be fine?
Since your set up is very close to mine .... I use a 50# Big Jim Thunderchild... my arrows are...
Great trip and beautiful animals.... Well done!!
Congrats on everything but excepting Traditional archery limits get an extra thumbs up from a longbow guy :)
This is a link to the original thread..... it has the pictures and story. It took me a while to figure out how to use Youtube...

The Duiker turned his head and I thought he turn more right than he did but it ended up a good quartering shot and a quick recovery...
The Impala was a tiny bit low but with his head down the arrow went through and protruded from his neck two trirds of the way up.
Both animals went...
Well done Bill !!! Beautiful memories and trophy's :) Nice to read about a Traditional adventure in Africa...
I totally agree with you Ken. Shoot a weight you can shoot well!! A well placed arrow with a cut on contact broadhead is deadly from a Traditional bow.
It does help when your PH...
I only had five actual hunting days because of my job obligations. Lammie did an Excellent job making them count.
Day four found us looking for an opportunity at a Warthog. I was looking to the left and saw this red streak blast across and opening. I instantly uttered the words Red Duiker and...
Day three we move to another location and had an opportunity with a Blesbok. Before the Blesbok came in we had a bunch of Wildebeests and a Giant Warthog. I should probably say at this time that I am shooting a 56 50@28 Big Jim Thunderchild and the Warthog was a bit on the long shot side with my...
The next day we went to a different area. Lammie as I said before went out of his way to pre scout and put me in a position to have the best opportunity for success. He had put up a pop up blind in some thick, thick bush. It was a very small blind and the longest shot from this blind would be 12...
Allison, Lammie's wife is a very gracious hostess and goes out of her way to make sure the guests get a chance to experience the flavors of South Africa. We ate game meats (Impala, Blesbok etc) and sampled South African wines that were excellent. I am a California native and I can honestly say...
Our first day did not start well, or so it seemed as my first opportunity at a very nice Impala ram ended in my bow tip hit the top of the hide with a sound that was probably heard back home and my shot missed clean and high. Redemption came later and I was glad I had missed the first when this...
I'm back from my way to short trip to Africa if I have one regret in is that I could not have stayed longer but life and the bills go on.
I started thinking about Africa long before I pick up a traditional bow. My first inquiry about a possible bow hunt with Lammie Potgieter of Dare To...
Great information.
Norwegianwoods I understand I'm afraid a man of my modest means hasn't the funds to chase these little fellas... I wish I could and try it with my longbow, wouldn't that be something to take to the box?
Tom I shoot a 56" Big Jim Thunderchild (Hybrid type longbow) 50@28... I use GT 3555's with a 100 grain brass insert and Abowyer Boneheads with titanium inserts. This gives me about 600 grains of arrow and about 22% FOC... These arrows shoot almost as good bareshaft as they do fletched from my...
We hunted from a hide over water. We saw the little guy and I asked Lammie if I could try if the opportunity was given. Lammie agreed but wanted to make sure he was a male and a mature specimen. Within ten/fifteen minutes he was at water. He started to drink I got into position and he stopped...
Thank you for the report...
Looks to be one more reason for me to stay with cut on contact fixed blade heads, and single blade heads for extra penetration.
I'll just spend the time and tune my equipment so my heads fly true.
I have only taken one animal with the Helix and it preformed flawlessly. I have had some injuries and for a time was forced to shoot lighter equipment for a while. I did a bit of research and found the Helix. Shooting a Gold Tip 3555 with a 100 grain insert and a 100 grain Helix shooting a 45#...

Urgent: Bowhunters Cannot Transit The Netherlands With Broadheads

I found this on a traditional archery site I frequent....I was wondering if you have been affected by it and warning your clients about it?

I have a question for you folks. I am looking for Outfits that allow or specialize in spot and stalk with a bow, in my case a longbow? I have no objections to blinds or tree stands but if I'm going to go to Africa (most likely South Africa) I want to experience some of it in the open.
Any...
I've been lurking in the shadows for a while and enjoying every minute of it :)
Like most hunters in America I dream about hunting in Africa with my bow. I've been tucking away the $ for two years and hopefully will be able bring my dream to fruition soon.
Thank you for the wonderful place to...
